Why Tyler Biadasz is an important leader for the Commanders

Biadasz is one of Washington’s early-season unsung heroes.

When you think of Commanders’ offensive leaders, you might actually miss one of the more important leaders on the 2024 team.

Head coach Dan Quinn spoke with the media on Monday about center Tyler Biadasz and his importance in leading this offense in 2024. Biadasz signed as a free agent in March, having played his first four seasons (202-23) with the Cowboys. The veteran center has been important for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

“One of the challenging parts about playing center, on so many of these plays you have to target who belongs to whom,” said Quinn. “On a traditional offense, you have a little bit more time. You can get the line of scrimmage; this is what I see. If they shift, you change it. When you’re going more quickly, those are when you really have to process quickly like a QB. So, on the runs and the passes, Tyler’s right in the middle of all that to make sure the declaration’s right, who we’re going to, how we’re going to go.”

The offense hummed like a well-oiled machine against the Cardinals on Sunday, leading to a 42-14 win. Quinn thought Biadasz did a great job with the Cardinals changing fronts.

“For a team like Arizona who plays multiple fronts, has a good blitz package and a safety that can just honestly show up in a blitz from just about damn near anywhere, he’s somebody he had to keep an eye on.”

Quinn also talked about how Biadasz is doing a good job getting out in Washington’s wide runs.

“I thought him pulling and being on the move there were some good plays that I saw on that, and that’s another added part of things when you get another big guy out on the edge on some of the lead blocking that went to Brian, I thought that was a big deal.”

GM Adam Peters’s first three moves with the Commanders involved two offensive linemen. Peters released OT Charles Leno, TE Logan Thomas, and C Nick Gates.

To address their offensive line, Peters signed Biadasz, G Nick Allegretti, and long snapper Tyler Ott in the first week of free agency.

It’s early, but Peters’ moves appear to be paying off.

Seahawks LS Tyler Ott says he would love to stay in Seattle

A Pro Bowler in 2020, Ott wants to remain in the Emerald City

The game of football is played in three phases. Offense, defense, and the often overlooked special teams. Those who understand the sport know how valuable special teams can be. In many cases, they can very easily be the difference between wins and losses. Fortunately, the Seattle Seahawks have enjoyed mostly consistently solid special teams play.

One of the more unheralded members of any special teams unit is the long snapper. Crucial for field goals, PAT’s, and punts, the long snapper often goes unrecognized. However, the Seahawks have employed one of the better ones in the NFL in Tyler Ott.

Ott signed a four-year extension in 2019, and it has just expired. Currently without a new deal, Ott expressed his explicit desire to remain in the Emerald City.

Ott has been in the NFL since 2014, bouncing around between the New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams, New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals before finally settling down in the Pacific Northwest. Since 2017 Ott has been a Seattle Seahawk – even becoming a Pro Bowler in 2020.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll calls Munich field conditions a ‘nightmare,’ but equal

Carroll called the field conditions a nightmare, but one both sides had to deal with.

Figuratively speaking, the Seahawks didn’t find their footing against the Buccaneers until the fourth quarter in Sunday’s five-point loss. In a much more literal sense Seattle’s players had an awful time with the playing surface at Allianz Arena, a venue with a dayjob as a soccer stadium.

While NFL teams will switch fields for sports, that hasn’t been the case in international games – something Seahawks long snapper Tyler Ott pointed out after the game. Veteran Edge Bruce Irvin has also decried the field conditions. Now, we can add coach Pete Carroll’s voice to the chorus. In his weekly ESPN radio hit, Carroll called the field conditions a nightmare, but one both sides had to deal with.

While it’s technically true that both teams struggled, on film the Seahawks seemed to have more issues with their footing, especially when it mattered. Tom Brady’s hilarious slip and trip on Tariq Woolen’s interception aside, Tampa didn’t seem to suffer much in any critical plays because of the field.

While fans should still be feeling pretty good heading into the bye week, Carroll has admitted that this loss was a real missed opportunity. Time will tell how the rest of the season plays out but it’s exactly the kind of thing that could be the difference between hosting a playoff game and visiting one of their conference rivals.

Nevertheless, the team and everybody involved seemed to enjoy the trip to Germany. Carroll says they’re down to return as soon as the NFL allows it.

Bruce Irvin echoes Tyler Ott on ‘terrible ass’ field conditions at Allianz Arena

Irvin stuffed Rachaad White on the first snap of the game and finished with a season-high four tackles

The Seahawks and Buccaneers both had to play on the same surface in yesterday’s game. It seemed Seattle had worse luck with the grass at Allianz Arena, though. In several key moments they had players slip and fall.

After the game, long snapper Tyler Ott called out the NFL for going out of its way to change fields for visiting soccer teams and then sending their own to international stadiums with field conditions not suited for football.

Today, Bruce Irvin echoed that sentiment, calling it a “terrible ass” field.

Irvin stuffed Rachaad White on the first snap of the game and finished with a season-high four tackles. He also had a hand in igniting the defense on the sidelines with a fiery speech after falling behind 14-0.

Even though they rallied in the fourth quarter, an atrocious fumble by Geno Smith after Cody Barton’s interception doomed their chances of a comeback.

Seahawks long snapper calls for safer fields in international games

After the game, long snapper Tyler Ott called out the conditions at Allianz Arena and for safter fields in general in international stadiums.

The Seahawks and Buccaneers had an extraordinary privilege to play in the NFL’s first ever game in Germany today. It’s unfortunate whoever oversees the playing surface left it in such a poor state for professional football.

One of the more disappointing elements of Seattle’s 21-16 Week 10 loss to Tampa was the number of slips and other issues with the playing field. Tom Brady slipped himself on Tariq Woolen’s interception, but in general the conditions seemed to be harder on the Seahawks, who were frequently unable to get their foot in the ground both literally and figuratively.

After the game, long snapper Tyler Ott called out the conditions at Allianz Arena and for safter fields in general in international stadiums.

This #SaferFields initiative is a new messaging bit from the NFLPA, which has been hitting social media hard over the weekend with this same idea – mostly pertaining to certain types of turf fields.

Ott and the players union are both right – we’re frankly lucky there aren’t any major injuries to report.

Seahawks add Carson Tinker to roster, place Tyler Ott on injured reserve

The Seahawks made a trio of roster moves, including signing LS Carson Tinker to the active roster and placing Tyler Ott on injured reserve.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a number of roster moves ahead of Wednesday’s practice. Seattle signed long snapper Carson Tinker to the 53-man roster and placed long snapper Tyler Ott on the injured reserve.

Tinker had been elevated to the active roster ahead of Monday’s game against the Broncos as a result of the injury Ott had suffered to his shoulder. With Ott headed for surgery and the IR, the move was expected.

In addition, the Seahawks re-signed safety Scott Nelson to the practice squad following his release last week to make room for the Tinker addition.

The Seahawks return to the practice field Wednesday afternoon to kick off their work week in preparation to face the 49ers.
