Broncos made several roster moves ahead of Lions game

The Broncos added Lucas Krull to 53-man roster, moved Ronnie Perkins to the practice squad and elevated Ben DiNucci and Tyler Lancaster.

The Denver Broncos made several roster moves ahead of Saturday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

First, the team waived outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins from the 53-man roster on Thursday. To fill Perkins’ former spot on the active roster, Denver promoted tight end Lucas Krull from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Broncos re-signed Perkins to the practice squad on Saturday.

Additionally, the team elevated quarterback Ben DiNucci and nose tackle Tyler Lancaster from the practice squad to the game-day roster on Saturday. DiNucci and Lancaster will revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

Krull previously used up his three practice squad elevations, so the Broncos had to fully promote him to the active roster so he can play in Detroit. Krull is now set to serve as the team’s third-string tight end behind Adam Trautman and Chris Manhertz.

The Broncos have not yet activated tight end Greg Dulcich, who is eligible to return from injured reserve. Dulcich recovered from his hamstring injury and practiced on Wednesday, only to then suffer a foot injury that ruled him out for Week 15.

Saturday’s game will be nationally televised on NFL Network.

Broncos made 2 roster moves before Browns game

The Broncos elevated WR David Sills and NT Tyler Lancaster from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Week 12.

The Denver Broncos have elevated wide receiver David Sills and nose tackle Tyler Lancaster from the practice squad to the game-day roster for Sunday’s showdown with the Cleveland Browns.

This marks Sills’ third and final elevation of the season and Lancaster’s second elevation this year. They will both revert back to the practice squad on Monday

Each player on the practice squad can be elevated to the game-day roster up to three times during the season without having to clear waivers when returning to the practice squad after the game.

The Broncos have elevated tight end Lucas Krull and wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith once each from the practice squad this year. Two players currently on the active roster — receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey and running back Dwayne Washington — were also elevated earlier this season before being promoted to the 53-man roster.

Sunday’s matchup will be regionally televised on select Fox stations and in-market fans can stream the game on fuboTV (try it free). Kickoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. MT.

10 surprises from Broncos’ initial 53-man roster

There were a few surprises when the Broncos set their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday.

After making 39 roster moves (including two trades) on Tuesday, the Denver Broncos finalized their initial 53-man roster for the 2023 season.

It’s important to note that this is an initial roster for the Broncos as several more roster moves will be on the way within the next 48 hours. While we wait for the finishing touches on the active roster, though, here are 10 surprises from Denver’s moves on roster cuts deadline day.

Broncos roster series: No. 62, DL Tyler Lancaster

After missing last season with an undisclosed injury, Tyler Lancaster will aim to win a job on the Broncos’ defensive line this summer.

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster, No. 62.

Before the Broncos: Lancaster (6-3, 313 pounds) played college football at Northwestern before joining the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He played in 12 games as a rookie, earning five starts. The following year, Lancaster started 10 games. In four years with the Packers, Lancaster appeared in 59 games (21 starts) and totaled 110 tackles, three quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

After this rookie contract with Green Bay expired, Lancaster signed with the Las Vegas Raiders last year. He was placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury during training camp and later released with an injury settlement. Lancaster did not play in any games in 2022.

Broncos tenure: Denver signed Lancaster to a one-year contract in May. He will make his Bronco debut during preseason this summer.

Chance to make the 53-man roster: 50-50. Lancaster’s potential outlook with the Broncos ranges from not making the team to winning a starting job. The Broncos lost Dre’Mont Jones and DeShawn Williams during free agency so there are snaps to be won on the defensive line, but it remains to be seen if Lancaster has returned to full health. If he is healthy, Lancaster will have a real shot to win a spot on the active roster.

Broncos sign DL Tyler Lancaster after cutting Brandon McManus

Tyler Lancaster totaled 110 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 59 games (21 starts) with the Packers.

The Denver Broncos have already filled the roster spot that was opened up by the release of kicker Brandon McManus on Tuesday.

The Broncos signed defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster on Tuesday, the team announced. Following that move, Denver’s 90-man offseason roster is now full once again.

Lancaster (6-3, 313 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern with the Green Bay Packers in 2018. After four seasons in Green Bay, Lancaster joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. He suffered an injury last August and was ultimately cut by the Raiders last September.

Lancaster totaled 110 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 59 games (21 starts) with the Packers. He now lands in Denver, presumably to compete for rotational playing time as a nose tackle.

The Broncos will eventually have to make a cut to make room for an incoming kicker to replace McManus. Whether that incoming kicker will be Brett Maher or somebody else remains to be seen.

Packers lose free agent DL Tyler Lancaster to Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders signed former Packers DL Tyler Lancaster, who was one of the team’s lone remaining free agents.

The Las Vegas Raiders signed one of the Green Bay Packers’ last remaining free agents. The team announced the signing of former Packers defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster on Wednesday.

The Packers originally signed Lancaster as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern in 2018. He made the team as a rookie and went on to play in 59 games over the next four seasons, providing depth along the defensive line, primarily as a run stopper.

Lancaster, 27, produced 110 tackles, six tackles for losses, 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and one pass batted down while in Green Bay. He was on the field for 1,323 snaps on defense and 417 on special teams. Last season, he played 319 defensive snaps over 16 games and a career-high 145 special teams snaps.

In Las Vegas, Lancaster will be reunited with former Packers special teams coordinator Maurice Drayton.

The Packers didn’t need to bring back Lancaster after signing veteran Jarran Reed and using a first-round pick on Devonte Wyatt and a seventh-round pick on Jonathan Ford. The team also just claimed Chris Slayton off waivers from the 49ers.

The Packers have only two free agents remaining: cornerback Kevin King and outside linebacker Chauncey Rivers. Offensive tackle Dennis Kelly signed with the Colts earlier this month, while safety Henry Black signed with the Giants last week.

Packers place DL Tyler Lancaster on COVID-19 reserve list

Packers DL Tyler Lancaster was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list on Tuesday.

The Green Bay Packers placed defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday.

Lancaster has played in all three games for the Packers this season. He dealt with a back injury and struggled the first two games but was excellent over 17 snaps against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

Lancaster is landing on the COVID list after defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery tested positive and missed the Packers’ Week 2 win over the Detroit Lions.

If vaccinated, Lancaster can return to the team after two negative tests 24 hours apart.

The Packers could use more of rookies T.J. Slaton and Jack Heflin if Lancaster isn’t back to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

DL Tyler Lancaster gets $200K signing bonus from Packers

Tyler Lancaster’s one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers included a small signing bonus and has a cap hit of just under $1.25 million in 2021.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Packers gave Lancaster a signing bonus of $200,000 on a deal that will count $1,248,438 on the salary cap this season.

Lancaster, who was originally a restricted free agent, agreed to return to Green Bay on a one-year deal above the minimum amount but lower than than the $2.1 million restricted tender. The move brings back an experienced rotational player along the defensive line at a cheap and reasonable cost.

Lancaster, an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern in 2018, has played in 43 games for the Packers over his first three NFL seasons. He has 79 career tackles, three tackles for losses and 1.5 sacks.

The Packers have played Lancaster for 1,004 defensive snaps over the last three seasons. He has been used mostly as a block-eating and space-consuming defender against the run.

Lancaster, 26, will be an unrestricted free agent when his one-year deal expires following the 2021 season.

Packers re-signing DL Tyler Lancaster

The Packers are bringing back defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster.

The Green Bay Packers are bringing back one of the team’s untendered restricted free agents.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers will re-sign defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster, who was an unrestricted free agent after not receiving a restricted tender before the new league year.

Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern in 2018, Lancaster has played in 43 games and been on the field for 1,003 defensive snaps for the Packers over the last three seasons.

The Packers have used Lancaster mostly as a rotational run-stuffing interior lineman. He has 79 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his NFL career.

Lacking depth and experience along the defensive line, the Packers picked bringing back Lancaster over signing an outside free agent.

Lancaster is the fourth player to re-sign with the Packers, joining running back Aaron Jones, cornerback Kevin King and tight end Marcedes Lewis.
