Tyler Hunt had a remarkable career for Michigan State, coming to East Lansing as a walk-on punter and ending his career as the starting tight end. There is no doubt Hunt made his impact on the MSU program over his six years in East Lansing.

Now, moving on from his football career, Hunt is set to go back to his hometown and help his former high school football program. He was hired as the director of football for Gobles High School.

Three Michigan State football players back for a sixth season

The Spartans will have three players back for their sixth season of eligibility

Michigan State’s football program released its spring football roster on Monday ahead of the start of spring practice. Apart of the roster reveal was the good news that three of Michigan State’s seniors will be returning to school for a sixth season, using an extra year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

TE Tyler Hunt, OL Matt Carrick and P Bryce Baringer will all be returning to East Lansing for an additional season.

All three are very welcomed additions. Tyler Hunt will provide veteran stability to the tight end spot while younger players like Maliq Carr and Jack Nickel prepare to take the role. Matt Carrick will give the Spartans much-needed depth on the interior offensive line, being able to spell both guard positions off the bench. Lastly, Bryce Baringer was one of the nation’s best punters a year ago, bringing him back will give MSU a strong advantage.

The two connected on a pair of big-time plays that led to the Spartans’ first offensive touchdown of the game. Tyler Hunt first threw a pass to Thorne on a reverse pass-back to the quarterback that picked up 15 yards. The play was especially impressive as Thorne made a tiptoe grab along the sidelines.

Michigan State in contact with former Louisville punter Ryan Harwell

Michigan State is in the market for a punter and has been in contact with former Louisville punter Ryan Harwell.

[jwplayer LOzzVBvn-PROpJzTY]

Michigan State is in the market for a punter with the transfer of Jack Bouwmeester and decommitment of Mark Vassett. That leads us to former Louisville punter Ryan Harwell, who put his name in the transfer portal last week. He has two years of eligibility remaining and was a JUCO All-American.

He averaged 40.1 yards per punt as a freshman last year and has been in contact with the staff at Michigan State. The Spartans have three punters on roster: Bryce Baringer, Tyler Hunt and Evan Morris. Baringer was the first team punter last season while Tyler Hunt played more of a utility-man role that saw him play a few snaps at tight end.

If the Spartans can get Harwell to transfer to Michigan State, that would be a huge get at a very depleted position.

Well, this game has been.. interesting.

Michigan State is currently getting pummeled by Iowa in a sloppy game on the road, but there was one fun development in the second half for the Spartans.

MSU was able to score their first points of the day, and their first rushing touchdown of the season, on a handoff to tight end, and former punter, Tyler Hunt. Hunt rumbled and bumbled his way to the touchdown, leaping over Iowa defenders to make the score.
