Notre Dame preparing for Texas A&M with piped-in crowd, band noise

Will this help the Irish tune the Aggies fans out?

Kyle Field is said to provide one of the best home-field advantages in college football, and Notre Dame is about to experience it. If the Irish lose to Texas A&M in their season opener, the atmosphere Kyle Field is sure to provide could be a major reason why. Win or lose, we’ll have a good idea about the mental makeup of this team when the game is over.

Whatever happens, the Irish are preparing properly. While piped-in crowd noise and marching bands are nothing new with football practices, Tyler Horka of Blue and Gold Illustrated noted that the Irish cranked the volume with it during Tuesday’s practice, which was held in sweltering temperatures:

We’ll see how well this prepares the Irish for the first game of the season. If they want to win a national championship though, they eventually will have to conquer frenzied crowds to get there. If nothing else, it would build character for the entire team.

Social media reacts to Jordan Faison touchdown reception

Good job, young man.

As the Sun Bowl goes on, it appears to be more academic for Notre Dame. While the offense has had more explosive games this year, it also is benefiting from a dominant defense that has kept Oregon State in check.

Sooner or later, another Irish touchdown was going to come. That’s just what happened when [autotag]Steve Angeli[/autotag] hit [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag] for a 13-yard touchdown on third down, giving the Irish a 24-0 lead:

Faison has had a couple of nice catches in this game, and it hopefully is serving as an omen for how Faison can contribute in 2024 and beyond. Whether it’s Angeli, [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] or someone else under center next season, Faison definitely has the tools to stand out among a receiving corps that is getting more talented every year.

We’ll see how Faison does in the future, but for now, let’s look at some of the reactions social media had to his touchdown:

Social media reacts to fourth touchdown for Audric Estime

Much of the chatter on social media during Notre Dame’s game against Stanford has been about Audric Estime.

Much of the chatter on social media during Notre Dame’s game against Stanford has been about [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag]. More specifically, it’s been about how he didn’t make the latest cut for the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the best running back in the country. The only thing to do in that case is let your game speak, and boy, has Estime ever.

Here’s Estime’s fourth touchdown against the Cardinal, this one from 25 yards out:

It probably already has been asked once or twice on this site during this game, but is there anything else that can be said about Estime? Every NFL team should be lining up to check him out at the combine because he is going to be so good for somebody. Irish fans know it, and they want the world to know it via social media. Here are some of the best tweets about yet another in a series of Estime touchdowns:

What a player.

Notre Dame has made its offensive strategy against Stanford clear, and it involves feeding [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] over and over. Against better programs, having such a predictable plan might flop spectacularly. But Stanford is not a better program, and that’s becoming more clear as this game continues. In fact, Estime scored his third touchdown of the game on the first possession of the second half on a 5-yard run:

The Irish have been fortunate to have a running back like Estime in their arsenal. Sometimes, you just need someone to do what they do best in order to win. The Irish have recognized that this is one of those games in which Estime can do that, so there’s no need to change anything up as long as what they’re doing is working.

Social media has taken notice of Estime’s big evening and taken to social media to express thoughts about him such as these?

Social media reacts to Gi’Bran Payne fumble-turned-touchdown

Yes, this was a score.

Notre Dame needed to show before halftime that it had no intention of letting Stanford do whatever it wanted. It looked for a moment that the Irish would fall short in that mission as [autotag]Gi’Bran Payne[/autotag] appeared to lose a fumble at the goal line after a 3-yard run.

As the Cardinal celebrated their apparent fourth turnover of the first half, replays showed that Payne might have broken the plane before he lost the ball. The officials reviewed it, and it turned out Payne did indeed score before losing the ball:

It might not have been the cleanest touchdown of the season, but it gave the Irish a 28-16 halftime lead. That will make it more challenging for the Cardinal to pull off the upset despite them showing that they won’t go away without a fight. That’s good news for Irish fans, including those who took to social media afterwards to celebrate the final touchdown of the half:

He is so good.

If this is to be [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag]’s final game with Notre Dame, he’s determined to go out with a bang. For the second time in the first half against Stanford, he scored a touchdown to put the Irish in front. Yes, it’s shocking to hear that the Cardinal have led more than once, but the Irish have turned the ball over three times. Nonetheless, he ran to the end zone from 6 yards out here:

Irish fans are running out of superlatives on how to describe Estime. As long as he’s on his game, his team has a very good chance of winning. It doesn’t matter how well the opposition plans for him or how much better it is than Estime’s team. He is going to factor in the outcome, and all opponents can do at that point is watch.

Social media reacts to Jaden Greathouse’s touchdown reception

This kid has a bright future for the Irish.

Obviously, Notre Dame does not want a repeat of being upset against Stanford last year. The possibility of that was raised after the Cardinal recovered a lost kick return and soon went ahead, 13-7. But the Irish aren’t ready to concede anything as they responded with a touchdown on the ensuing possession. [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] found [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag] in the end zone for a 15-yard completion:

Greathouse has had one amazing debut season for the Irish. It’s clear that the program’s receiving corps for the next few years will feature him frequently, and there’s no reason to think otherwise. Hartman should think himself lucky that he’s had the opportunity this season to throw to a receiver like him. Heck, the receiving position itself soon will be even stronger with [autotag]Cam Williams[/autotag] about to enroll at Notre Dame.

Here’s how social media reacted to the latest of many highlights Greathouse had had this season:

What a season for this kid.

There’s no telling what Notre Dame running back [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag] will do after the game against Stanford. Will he sit out the bowl game in preparation for the NFL draft? Is he somehow coming back for another season, thus making that question irrelevant? We’ll get the answer to that later, but for now, here he is running 39 yards for the game’s first touchdown, giving the Irish a 7-3 lead:

Appreciate Estime while you still can, Irish fans. He has had a special season and probably should be honored more than he will be. Even with a barren trophy case for this season though, he has been one heck of a bright spot for an offense that always has come out very prepared or not prepared at all.

People took to social media after the touchdown to express their thoughts about it. Here is some of the best of what was tweeted:

Social media reacts to Jaden Greathouse’s 52-yard touchdown reception

That’s a long tuddy.

The fourth quarter for Notre Dame against Wake Forest merely is a formality. That’s not stopping the Irish from pouring it on though. This is the third game this season in which [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag] has thrown for four touchdown passes. His latest one was to [autotag]Jaden Greathouse[/autotag], who made a nice catch and completed the 48-yard trek to the end zone:

Perhaps the most impressive thing about this performance is that every Irish touchdown has been scored by a different player. Some of them will be back next year, but those players are making sure the departing players have something to remember other than being honored before the game. A blowout win is a nice memory to add to what surely is an emotional day for these players:

Even with the game already decided, Greathouse’s catch generated plenty of reaction on social media, and here are some of those reactions:

Is this his Notre Dame Stadium swan song?

It took until the second half, but Notre Dame finally is treating Wake Forest like the inferior opponent it is. The game has been opened up, and the Irish appear they will have a successful senior day. Helping make that possible is this 2-yard touchdown run by [autotag]Audric Estime[/autotag], who was set up nicely by a Deacons penalty and a couple of big completions by [autotag]Sam Hartman[/autotag]:

Although not a senior, Estime is eligible for the upcoming NFL draft, and it would be a shock if didn’t enter it. He’s proven beyond a doubt this season that he’s ready for the next level, although the decision about whether to jump early is up to him. If this is his final game at Notre Dame Stadium, he at least has given the venue one last thing to remember him by.
