Auburn to host Miami tight end Jaleel Skinner for official visit

Skinner has caught 10 passes for 138 yards in two seasons at Miami.

Auburn snagged a tight end from the Miami area last season from the transfer portal in [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag]. They will try their hand at landing another this season by hosting another tight end this month.

[autotag]Jaleel Skinner[/autotag], formerly of Miami, will take a visit to Auburn during the weekend of Dec. 15-17 according to a report by Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live.

Skinner entered the transfer portal after spending the first two seasons of his college career at Miami. As a Hurricane, he hauled in 10 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. He was more productive as a freshman in 2022 when he hauled in nine passes for 129 yards and a score.

His sophomore campaign was not as active, as he made just one catch for nine yards. According to Pro Football Focus, he only appeared in two games and played a total of 25 snaps in 2023.

Despite not having a[anyclip-media thumbnail=”undefined” playlistId=”undefined” content=”dW5kZWZpbmVk”][/anyclip-media] productive start to his career, Skinner was once a high-profile recruit. As a member of the 2022 recruiting cycle from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Skinner was a four-star tight end according to 247Sports composite rankings. He was the No. 3 tight end and the No. 102 overall player for the class.

Auburn tight end [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag] became Auburn’s leading receiver this season by reeling in 39 passes for 349 yards and six touchdowns. He has one season of eligibility remaining. Tight end [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag] has announced that he will return to Auburn while [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag] has declared his intent to enter the transfer portal.

Safety Marquise Gilbert has entered the transfer portal

Gilbert appeared in 10 games during his time at Auburn.

Auburn reserve safety [autotag]Marquise Gilbert[/autotag] has entered the transfer portal, he announced the move Thursday on social media.

Gilbert came to Auburn in 2022 as the top JUCO safety in the country after spending two seasons at Hutchinson C.C. He appeared in 10 games, making two tackles during his two seasons on the Plains.

He is the eighth Auburn player overall and the first defensive back to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He joins defensive linemen Stephen Johnson, [autotag]Enyce Sledge[/autotag], Jack linebacker [autotag]Stephen Sings V[/autotag], wide receivers [autotag]Omari Kelly[/autotag], [autotag]Malcolm Johnson Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Jyaire Shorter[/autotag] and tight end [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag] in the portal.

While Gilbert is the first defensive back to enter the portal, there will be some massive changes in the secondary with starters D.J. James, Nehemiah Pritchett and Jaylin Simposon all headed to the NFL.

Auburn tight end Tyler Fromm enters the transfer portal

Tyler Fromm spent five seasons on the Plains.

Veteran tight end [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag] has entered the transfer portal, according to numerous reports. He appeared in 38 games during his five seasons on the Plains.

After redshirting in 2019, he appeared in one game during the 2020 season and cracked the tight end rotation in 2021, appearing in all 13 games. He caught 14 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown during his time at Auburn.

Starting tight end Rivaldo Fairweather is considering whether to enter the NFL draft or return to Auburn for one more season but Luke Deal, Micah Riley and Brandon Frazier are all expected to return next season.

He is the seventh Tiger to enter the portal, joining receivers [autotag]Omari Kelly[/autotag], [autotag]Jyaire Shorter[/autotag] and [autotag]Malcolm Johnson Jr.[/autotag], defensive linemen [autotag]Stephen Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Enyce Sledge[/autotag] and jack linebacker [autotag]Stephen Sings V[/autotag].

Tight end Luke Deal announces return to Auburn football

Deal says that “unfinished business” is the reason that he is coming back to Auburn for a sixth season.

One of Auburn’s most experienced offensive players has announced that he will return to the program for the 2024 season.

[autotag]Luke Deal[/autotag], a former three-star tight end from the 2019 recruiting cycle, revealed Thursday that he will return to Auburn next season for his sixth season of eligibility.

Deal spoke with Jason Caldwell of Auburn Undercover shortly after announcing his decision. He tells Caldwell that he is strong enough to play for another season and is excited to see the progress that the team is expected to make. He also wants to take care of some “unfinished business” before he departs from the program.

“There’s a couple of games, the Georgia game and Alabama game, but especially the Bama game. That will stick in my mind for 364 days,” Deal said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. “That’s something I can’t quite let go yet. My wife and I are here and we love it here. I’m blessed with another year of eligibility. I’m ready to lead this team next year. We’re going to have some serious dudes and we’re going to win some serious ballgames next year.”

His return makes him one of Auburn’s most experienced players. Since arriving in 2019, he has been involved in 1,302 snaps according to Pro Football Focus. He has also participated in 52 games with 16 starts over the last five seasons.

He was a part of Auburn’s 2019 class that was ranked No. 13 according to 247Sports. [autotag]Zion Puckett[/autotag], [autotag]Ja’varrius Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag], [autotag]Colby Wooden[/autotag], [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag], and [autotag]Nehemiah Pritchett[/autotag] join Deal as members of the class who are still on Auburn’s roster. The class was headlined by linebackers [autotag]Owen Pappoe[/autotag] and [autotag]Derick Hall[/autotag], as well as former Auburn quarterback [autotag]Bo Nix[/autotag].

Hugh Freeze shares thoughts on the enhancement of receiver room

The Tigers needed a boost to its receiving corps, and got just that from the transfer portal.

The position group with the most buzz this fall camp is quarterback. However, a quarterback is only as good as his supporting cast.

In addition to enhancing the quarterback room by adding [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag] from Michigan State, [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] boosted his offensive line and receiving corps.

Auburn failed to have a receiver reach 500 yards last season and the last receiver to come close to a 1,000-yard season was [autotag]Darvin Adams[/autotag] in 2009 when he reeled in 60 catches for 997 yards.

As someone who is known for having solid receivers, Freeze knew that he needed to upgrade his receiver room for his team to reach its true potential.

“We needed to overhaul that room and improve it for sure,” Freeze said Thursday. “I say that and truthfully I don’t know, the evaluation sample was so small for most of them because this system is totally different than what they’ve played in.”

Javarrius Johnson returns as the Tigers’ leading receiver after reeling in 26 catches for 493 yards and three scores last season. [autotag]Koy Moore[/autotag] is back, as are several tight end options such as [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag], [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag], and [autotag]Luke Deal[/autotag].

Freeze enhanced the group by adding [autotag]Shane Hooks[/autotag] and [autotag]Jyaire Shorter[/autotag], who were Jackson State and North Texas’ leading receivers last season respectively. He also grabbed a tall target in [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag], as well as another tight end in [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag].

The potential is there, but it is time now for them to prove it on the field.

“I do think we’ve improved that room in recruiting, and I do think there are guys here that can be better than what they’ve shown,” Freeze said. “We’re excited to see, I think we’ve seen glimpses of that but now we’ve got to go and do it when it’s real and live. But we are excited about the fact that I think we’ve improved that room for sure.”

The receivers, as well as the offensive line, will use this two-week period of fall camp to prove that they are worthy of a starting position.

Up next is transfer tight end [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag]. He was Auburn’s first transfer addition of the offseason and brings some needed playmaking ability to the tight end position.

Depth Chart Overview

Auburn returns veterans [autotag]Luke Deal[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag] at tight end but Fairweather is a different kind of player. He was a big play machine for FIU, averaging 15.5 yards per catch, and figures to become a weapon in Auburn’s revamped passing attack.

He has the athleticism to line up wide and should be a focal point in the passing attack as he is a mismatch due to his 6-foot-4 and 251-pound frame. Fairweather should win the starting job in a deep and talented tight end room and should see a heavy dose of targets from quarterback [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag].

Jackson State WR Shane Hooks announces commitment to Auburn

Jackson State’s leading receiver in 2022 is now an Auburn Tiger.

The numbers keep rolling in for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Auburn Tigers.

The Tigers have landed its’ second wide receiver transfer of the week as [autotag]Shane Hooks[/autotag], Jackson State’s leading receiver from the 2022 season, announced Sunday that he would be transferring to Auburn. He joins the Tigers after being previously committed to Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels.

After the departure of Deion Sanders to Colorado, there was a mass exodus of players from the Jackson State roster. Several Jackson State players such as quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter followed Sanders to Boulder. Hooks elected to go another direction, thus moving into the SEC.

Hooks previously played three seasons at Ohio before moving to Jackson State. As a Bobcat, Hooks reeled in 34 catches for 635 yards and six touchdowns. Hooks added 947 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons at Jackson State. As a senior in 2022, Hooks led the Tigers in receptions with 66 catches for 775 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Outside of his playmaking abilities, Hooks brings much-needed height to Auburn’s receiving room. He stands 6-4 and weighs 205, which will mesh well with [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag] (6-6), [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag] (6-5), [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag] (6-4), and [autotag]Camden Brown[/autotag] (6-3).

Hooks is the second wide receiver to commit to Auburn over the last seven days. Auburn added former North Texas wide receiver Jyaire Shorter last Tuesday.

Here’s a full report card of what Shane Hooks brings to the Plains.

Auburn offers TE Rivaldo Fairweather who plans to visit

Auburn is looking to add a tight end and they have targeted Rivaldo Fairweather.

The transfer portal is officially open and Auburn is going to be heavily involved. One of the Tiger’s early targets is tight end [autotag]Rivaldo Fairweather[/autotag].

In fact, the Tigers were the first school to call and offer him a scholarship on Monday according to Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover. While nothing has been scheduled yet he plans to visit the Plains.

The former FIU Panther had a breakout season this year, catching 28 passes for 426 yards and three touchdowns as a junior. He will have two seasons of eligibility left at his next destination due to his covid year.

Auburn has a need for a pass-catching tight end now that John Samuel Shenker has run out of eligibility. New tight end coach [autotag]Ben Aigamaua[/autotag] will have [autotag]Luke Deal[/autotag], [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag], and [autotag]Micah Riley-Ducker[/autotag] to work with next season.

While Deal, Fromm, and Frazier are all experienced upperclassmen they have been primarily used as blockers and lack experience as receiving threats.

Best photos from Auburn’s two-game winning streak over the LSU Tigers

Auburn is riding a two-game winning streak over the LSU Tigers, here are the best photos from those games.

The last time Auburn and LSU squared off Auburn took down LSU 24-19 in Baton Rouge, winning there for the first time since 1999.

The win was Auburn’s second in a row over the Bayou Bengals and was in large part due to the heroics of [autotag]Bo Nix[/autotag].

He had perhaps his best road performance of his three years at Auburn, going 23-for-44 for 255 yards and one touchdown. He added 74 yards and one touchdown on the ground to lead Auburn to victory.

The most memorable play of the game occurred on 4th-and-2 when Nix rolled to his right before running back to the left and evading multiple defenders before finding [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag] for a 24-yard touchdown.

The 2020 matchup between the programs was not nearly as stressful as Auburn steamrolled them to a 48-11 win in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The 37-point margin of victory was the largest margin of victory for Auburn in the rivalry.

Nix once again had a great game, throwing for 300 yards and three touchdowns on just 18 completions. The star of the show was receiver [autotag]Anthony Schwartz[/autotag] who caught four passes for 123 yards and a 91-yard touchdown.

The Auburn defense shut down the defending national champions, forcing three turnovers, 4.0 sacks, and allowed just 32 yards rushing.

Here are the best photos from these two games ahead of the game Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium, which is set to start at 6 p.m. CT and be on ESPN.

2022 Auburn football preview: Tight End

This is one of the best position groups on Auburn’s roster.

Auburn’s tight end room is one of the deepest on the roster and has several versatile players.

[autotag]John Samuel Shenker[/autotag] is the unquestioned leader after catching 33 passes for 413 yards last season, both program records, but [autotag]Luke Deal[/autotag], [autotag]Tyler Fromm[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Frazier[/autotag], and even true-freshman [autotag]Micah Riley-Ducker [/autotag] bring something interesting to the position.

With the uncertainty at the quarterback and wide receiver positions, this group could be asked to do a lot but has the talent to do just that. Tight-end coach [autotag]Brad Bedell[/autotag] has done a great job filling this room with players who have skill sets that complement each other.
