ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III questions the future of Alabama QB Jalen Milroe

ESPN’s RGIII discusses Jalen Milroe’s future at Alabama after being bench ahead of Week 3 matchup with South Florida

ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III joined the Paul Finebaum Show on Friday evening. During the show, he discussed how Alabama has handled the quarterback situation.

“It makes me wonder about Jalen Milroe’s future there….why didn’t they just start Tyler Buchner from the beginning of the year,” Griffin III said.

Milroe started the first two games of the season and won the starting job in the weeks leading up to the season-opener. After a loss in Week 2 to Texas, the Crimson Tide decided to give Buchner an opportunity to start in Week 3. That could come into question in the future, but it is something that does not come as too much of a surprise for Alabama fans.

Griffin III does bring up a point given Alabama’s history at the quarterback position. Jalen Hurts was Alabama’s starting quarterback for the first two years of his college career. As a junior, he was benched in favor of sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Following the season, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma.

The same situation could unfold for Milroe, but only time will tell. The 2023 season is just getting started. Griffin III has raised a good question for Alabama fans to keep in the back of their mind moving forward.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama’s quarterback situation and other news surrounding the Alabama football program.

WATCH: Mark Ingram discusses Alabama’s decision to bench Jalen Milroe

Does Mark Ingram have a point?

Alabama will be on the road for the first time this season on Saturday afternoon when they take on the South Florida Bulls from inside Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] has reportedly made an interesting decision entering the matchup with the Bulls, deciding to bench quarterback Jalen Milroe in favor of Notre Dame transfer, Tyler Buchner.

Former Alabama running back, now a college football analyst for FOX, expressed that he believes Coach Saban’s decision was a little bit of an overreaction, claiming that the Crimson Tide has more glaring issues throughout the team.

Watch as Ingram discusses Coach Saban’s decision to start Buchner in place of Milroe.

While Ingram makes the argument that is an overreaction, he also points out that Coach Saban is at practice every day and that he trusts the seven-time national championship-winning head coach to make the best decision for his team.

We’ll find out if that decision will pay off or not when the Crimson Tide takes on South Florida at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

10 players who need to step up for Alabama against South Florida

These 10 players need to step up for the Alabama football team when they take on South Florida

Even though it is only Week 3 of the college football season, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide have reached a pivotal point in their season. After two weeks, Alabama is just 1-1 and is fresh off its first home loss to a non-conference opponent since 2007.

Contrary to popular belief, there is plenty of blame to go around for Alabama’s disappointing performance in Week 2. The truth is, if the Crimson Tide wants to accomplish any of its goals in 2023, the entire program needs to make improvements, including the coaching staff.

The fact remains that it is up to the players on the field to perform, and Alabama has several starters who need to step up this week against USF and help lead the Tide in the right direction.

Below is a list of 10 players who need to step on Saturday against the Bulls, and the rest of the season for that matter.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football look to get back in the win column on Saturday as they embark on their first road trip of the 2023 season against the South Florida Bulls down in Tampa.

Both teams enter the matchup with a 1-1 record and while one program is looking to make history, the other is trying to reestablish its dominance.

Question marks are in high volume for Coach Saban and the Tide, and with reports on Friday that the coaching staff has decided to insert [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] at quarterback in place of [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag], the contest just got a little more interesting.

To make sure you know how to catch all of the action, below is a complete breakdown of how you can watch, plus a lot more!

Pre-game Buzz: Fans react to potential change at QB for Alabama

Rumors that Tyler Buchner will take over as QB1 in place of Jalen Milroe have fans going wild!

After Alabama’s A-Day spring game, the two-man race between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson became a three-man competition with former Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner transferring to the Crimson Tide program.

Buchner is familiar with first-year Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who previously served as the Fighting Irish’s offensive play caller.

In Week 1, Milroe got the start against Middle Tennessee and Buchner saw limited action, only attempting five passes, three of which were completed for 27 yards. He did have a rushing touchdown.

Following the Crimson Tide’s Week 2 loss to Texas, the coaching staff seemingly wants to try something new out, as Buchner is expected to start against USF in Week 3.

Tyler Buchner will reportedly be Alabama’s starting QB for Week 3 matchup against USF

A change has been made at the quarterback position for the Alabama Crimson Tide. According to a report made by 247Sports’ John Talty, redshirt sophomore Tyler Buchner will be Alabama’s starting quarterback against USF.

A lot of Alabama fans will be pleased to see a change at the quarterback position while others will question the move. Nonetheless, a change has been made heading into Alabama’s Week 3 matchup against USF.

Redshirt sophomore Tyler Buchner has reportedly been named the team’s starting quarterback against USF. The news was first reported by 247Sports’ John Talty.

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise considering that Jalen Milroe served as the team’s starting quarterback for the first two games of the season. However, Milroe’s play through the first two weeks did not do enough to win over the coaching staff.

Buchner has been viewed as the second-string quarterback prior to Alabama’s Week 1 matchup against Middle Tennessee State. Buchner transferred to Alabama in April, following the A-Day game.

In two seasons at Notre Dame, Buchner played in 13 games. He suffered an injury during his sophomore season that caused him to miss 10 games. However, he returned for the Fighting Irish’s bowl game against South Carolina. Buchner threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns.

The California native is familiar with Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Rees served as Buchner’s primary recruiter and was his quarterback coach for two seasons at Notre Dame.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see if the two can coincide in Tuscaloosa. Buchner will get his first opportunity to prove if he is capable of being Alabama’s starting quarterback on Saturday afternoon against USF.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama’s quarterback situation and other news surrounding the Alabama football program.

Is it Tyler Buchner time for Alabama football?

The former Irish quarterback might be starting for the Crimson Tide this weekend

As we have seen early with the 2023 season, the former [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] combo of offensive coordinator [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] and quarterback [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] hasn’t gone according to plan.

That might be changing soon, as there have been reports that Buchner is trending to start this weekend, taking over the starting job from [autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag]. Alabama suffered their first loss of the season last weekend, at home to an improving Texas team, which many have sparked the idea to start Buchner.

Although the news isn’t confirmed that Buchner will once again be leading Rees’ offense, there are rumors that the former Irish quarterback was taking the majority of reps with the first team this week.

If you are like me, you’re laughing at the quarterback situation in Tuscaloosa as the current Notre Dame regime has seemingly fixed their issues starting with transfer Sam Hartman and the recruitment of Kenny Minchey and CJ Carr.

Look a bit familiar Tommy?

UPDATE: Our sister site, RollTide Wire is reporting that Buchner will start.

Report: Tyler Buchner to get first start for Alabama against USF

After Jalen Milroe threw two interceptions in a loss to Texas, the Crimson Tide appear to be making a change at quarterback.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are reportedly making a chance at quarterback.

Tyler Buchner, the sophomore transfer from Notre Dame, will get the start in Week 3 against South Florida, according to 247Sports’ John Talty.

Jalen Milroe, who started the first two games for the Tide, has thrown for 449 yards and five touchdowns through two games, and he sits third in the SEC with a QBR of 76.6 through two games. However, he also threw a pair of interceptions during Alabama’s Week 2 loss to No. 6 Texas, the Tide’s first non-conference home loss in 16 years.

Buchner saw some relief action in the season opener against Middle Tennesee, completing 3-of-5 passes for 27 yards and rushing for a nine-yard touchdown. He also played under Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees the last two seasons when both were with the Fighting Irish. Buchner went 67-118 (56.8%) for 949 yards, 6 TDs, and 8 INTs at Notre Dame, and he added 459 yards and 7 TDs on the ground.

Alabama’s football quarterback situation is seemingly far from resolved… or is it?
