ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III joined the Paul Finebaum Show on Friday evening. During the show, he discussed how Alabama has handled the quarterback situation.
“It makes me wonder about Jalen Milroe’s future there….why didn’t they just start Tyler Buchner from the beginning of the year,” Griffin III said.
Milroe started the first two games of the season and won the starting job in the weeks leading up to the season-opener. After a loss in Week 2 to Texas, the Crimson Tide decided to give Buchner an opportunity to start in Week 3. That could come into question in the future, but it is something that does not come as too much of a surprise for Alabama fans.
Griffin III does bring up a point given Alabama’s history at the quarterback position. Jalen Hurts was Alabama’s starting quarterback for the first two years of his college career. As a junior, he was benched in favor of sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Following the season, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma.
The same situation could unfold for Milroe, but only time will tell. The 2023 season is just getting started. Griffin III has raised a good question for Alabama fans to keep in the back of their mind moving forward.
