Tyler Buchner will reportedly be Alabama’s starting QB for Week 3 matchup against USF

A change has been made at the quarterback position for the Alabama Crimson Tide. According to a report made by 247Sports’ John Talty, redshirt sophomore Tyler Buchner will be Alabama’s starting quarterback against USF.

A lot of Alabama fans will be pleased to see a change at the quarterback position while others will question the move. Nonetheless, a change has been made heading into Alabama’s Week 3 matchup against USF.

Redshirt sophomore Tyler Buchner has reportedly been named the team’s starting quarterback against USF. The news was first reported by 247Sports’ John Talty.

The move comes as somewhat of a surprise considering that Jalen Milroe served as the team’s starting quarterback for the first two games of the season. However, Milroe’s play through the first two weeks did not do enough to win over the coaching staff.

Buchner has been viewed as the second-string quarterback prior to Alabama’s Week 1 matchup against Middle Tennessee State. Buchner transferred to Alabama in April, following the A-Day game.

In two seasons at Notre Dame, Buchner played in 13 games. He suffered an injury during his sophomore season that caused him to miss 10 games. However, he returned for the Fighting Irish’s bowl game against South Carolina. Buchner threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns.

The California native is familiar with Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees. Rees served as Buchner’s primary recruiter and was his quarterback coach for two seasons at Notre Dame.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see if the two can coincide in Tuscaloosa. Buchner will get his first opportunity to prove if he is capable of being Alabama’s starting quarterback on Saturday afternoon against USF.
