Ty Law shares hilarious story of Tedy Bruschi helping him skip huddles

Ty Law credits Patriots legend Tedy Bruschi for his Hall of Fame journey

The New England Patriots’ defensive units in the 2000s were some of the best in the organization’s history.

Several players made that defense unstoppable, including the likes of Hall of Fame cornerback Ty Law and linebacker Tedy Bruschi. Law told a funny anecdote about Bruschi in an episode of Julian Edelman’s “Games with Names” podcast.

Law was a tremendous corner for the Patriots throughout the course of his career, tallying 36 interceptions in 10 seasons with the team. Bruschi was a stout linebacker in his own right, as he was able to record 1,074 tackles over a 13-year career.

Perhaps more than their statistical accolades, the ability of Bruschi and Law to play off each other was impressive. Law told the story of how Bruschi made his life a bit easier in terms of coverage. The linebacker would often call Cover 2 plays to benefit Law, who was winded from lockdown coverage.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today as a Hall of Famer without that damn Tedy Bruschi,” said Law. “Know why? I didn’t know what in the hell was going on. I’m like, ‘Who I got? Give me him.’ Bruschi would be like, ‘Hey Ty, you got him’ or ‘We’re doing this.’ Because I would never come into the huddle. If you watch the old films, you would never see me go in the huddle when everybody run back to it. Dammit, I’m too tired. I just ran nine routes because people would always just run you off.”

The synchronicity of the two is certainly impressive, and it evidently worked on the field. Those Law and Bruschi-led defenses are a big reason why the Patriots won their first three Super Bowls.

This is who Ty Law wants as Patriots coach, if Bill Belichick is out

Ty Law knows who he wants as Patriots head coach.

Bill Belichick could potentially be on the hot seat with the New England Patriots struggling.

Multiple former Patriots players have weighed in as to who they want to be the next head coach, and Hall of Famer Ty Law is casting his vote for Jerod Mayo

Mayo certainly understands what it means to be a member of the organization. He was a standout player when he was drafted in 2008 from Tennessee. He ended up putting together a very respectable career, recording 802 tackles and two Pro Bowl selections. The former Patriots standout currently serves as the linebackers coach for the organization.

The head coaching buzz surrounding the former linebacker is palpable. He turned down a head coaching interview with the Carolina Panthers at the beginning of the year and elected to stay with New England.

He has been held in high regard in the coaching ranks, and that is not lost on Law, who appeared on “The Greg Hill Show” on Tuesday afternoon.

“I would like to see Jerod Mayo get the opportunity, because I think he has respect from, you know, especially around here. He has respect from players as a former player, which you know you don’t have a lot of former players,” Law said.

Time will tell what the Patriots do at the head coaching position for next season. However, there is little doubt that Mayo will have his chances at bigger coaching positions down the road.

Ty Law says what every Patriots fan is thinking ahead of Steelers matchup

Patriots legend Ty Law is never afraid to tell it like it is.

Former New England Patriots corner Ty Law bluntly stated his feelings ahead of the Patriots-Pittsburgh Steelers matchup on Thursday night. It’s safe to say Law is ready to move on to the 2024 season.

New England has struggled this season, as they currently sit with a 2-10 record. Furthermore, quarterback Mac Jones is no longer the starter, and the team has elected to go with Bailey Zappe over the last couple games.

The Patriots currently hold the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and that has many looking towards the future.

This includes Law, who didn’t mince words on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Thursday morning. He summed up the feelings of many Patriots fans, with a full-scale rebuild becoming more needed by the day.

“I think at this point, I hate to say this… they just can’t wait to get it over with,” said Law, as transcribed by WEEI’s Mike Kadlick. “And hell, us as fans. We can’t wait for y’all to get it over with either! You know what I mean? …They gonna have to do a whole overhaul makeover. Of course, you got some guys, you know, like the Judon’s, the Gonzalez’s of the world, but it’s gonna be a totally different team come next year.”

It will be interesting to see what Thursday brings, as New England looks to get back in the win column.

Ty Law didn’t like this aspect of playing for Bill Belichick

Ty Law claims Bill Belichick is more personable than you think, except for when this issue comes up…

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has a bit of a reputation for being one of the more challenging coaches to play for in the NFL. However, one Patriots legend does not see it that way.

Former Patriots cornerback Ty Law believes Belichick is a very personable coach, unless you’re dealing with him during contract time.

“That’s the only time me and Bill didn’t get along—contract time,” Law said, when appearing on “The Greg Hill Show.” “I’ll say it every time. Bill is the coolest and dopest coach. Personable, you can always go talk to him. The only time that he’s an ass—and I will call him an ass. So when he comes on here, Bill knows, I will call him an ass during contract time. That’s the only time. Other than that, man, Bill is solid as a rock.”

Law would know a thing or two about playing under Belichick. After all, he was one of the greatest corners in Patriots history.

Law would end up winning three Super Bowls with the team, and he is now a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His comments are something to keep in mind with the offseason approaching.

Belichick will have to make some difficult free agent decisions, particularly with key players like safety Kyle Dugger and guard Mike Onwenu. One has to wonder how those negotiations will play out.

Patriots legend Ty Law not buying Mac Jones’ optimism

Ty Law is not on board with Mac Jones’ latest comments.

New England Patriots legend Ty Law is not buying what Mac Jones is selling, as the Patriots look to pick up their second win of the season.

Law recently appeared on “The Greg Hill Show” and reacted to the latest comments by the third-year quarterback. Jones has stated that he is going to be the “same guy” and “bring guys along” as the organization looks to turn their fortunes around.

New England is currently 1-4 and sitting in the basement of the AFC East as the fourth-placed team.

“Bring with you where? To another team? C’mon, man,” said Law, when appearing on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.” “Bring with you where? To dinner? Let’s try that first. Take the team out to dinner. Do the Tom Brady, take them out to offseason workouts. You’re gonna lead them to another damn team. We ain’t gonna have nobody on the sidelines. C’mon, man.”

It’s hard to find optimism, given New England’s difficult remaining games on the schedule. Jones’ NFL run has been a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs. However, this season has been mostly down.

He will have to salvage what’s left of 2023, as the Patriots take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Kick-off is set for 4:05 p.m. ET.

Ty Law picking Patriots to win Sunday for this particular reason

Ty Law explains why he’s picking the Patriots to upset the Eagles.

Predictions are rolling in for the New England Patriots’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

The Patriots are obvious underdogs at home against the defending NFC champions, but former Patriots cornerback Ty Law is leaning towards an upset for one reason: Tom Brady.

New England is set to honor Brady during the game, which is expected to have many Patriots legends in attendance.

This will be Brady’s first return trip to New England since he was in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform back in October 2021. For what it’s worth, Brady bested the Patriots by a 19-17 score. He threw for 269 yards in the game, and the Patriots defense held him to a 51.2 completion percentage.

Law appeared on The Greg Hill Show on Thursday and picked the underdog Patriots to beat the Eagles because of the Tom Brady effect.

“I’m still saying that we’re going to feed off the energy of Tom Brady, said Law. “If Tom Brady was not coming, I wouldn’t be comfortable picking the Patriots, even though that’s my team. I’m always going for them. But because Tom Brady’s coming, there’s going to be so much energy there.

“Hopefully, Tom can go in there and talk to the team and get them ready to rock and roll. I know Belichick is always going to be prepared to have a good game plan. It’s up for those guys to go out there and make no excuses and play lights-out football. I think that energy will come from Tom Brady, so they can squeak one out because it’s early in the season.”

There is certainly going to be a ton of excitement for Brady’s return and the other subplots, including Brady watching his successor in action. Mac Jones will be coming into the game looking to bounce back from a rough 2022 season.

There will be nostalgia mixed with memories of the past and hopes for the future. This isn’t a game to miss.

Patriots legend Ty Law shared powerful, heartfelt words on Damar Hamlin incident

Patriots legend Ty Law had some heartfelt comments on the tragic Damar Hamlin incident.

New England Patriots Hall of Famer Ty Law offered his thoughts on the tragic collapse of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin that occurred on Monday night.

Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest in the first quarter of the game and was able to have his heartbeat restored. He was taken to a Cincinnati hospital, where he had a breathing tube put in. He is currently in critical condition.

The Bills-Bengals game was postponed, and no makeup date has been set yet.

Law appeared on WEEI Tuesday morning and offered his take on what transpired Monday night. Like so many others, he was shaken up by the incident and offered a unique perspective, as transcribed by Dakota Randall of NESN.com.

“I mean, you just feel for them because we’ve all been there,” Law said during his “The Greg Hill Show” interview. “Not in that capacity, but when someone gets carted off. I mean, the game doesn’t matter anymore. When you actually see that, it was a routine play. And, I know I always say, I’m one of the main guys, ‘We know what we sign up for’ — but we don’t sign up for that. I understand injuries, we have broken bones, we tear muscles, we get concussed. We understand certain things that happen in a football game. And yes, we sign up for it.

“But that right there, that is something that no one wants to see. … The game becomes irrelevant. And I think they did the right thing by canceling the game because no one was gonna go out there anyway. … I hope that he’s OK, that he’s recovering.”

As of now, the Patriots are still scheduled to visit the Buffalo Bills this Sunday, and the NFL has not made any changes to the Week 18 schedule.

Ty Law spares no one in epic rant on players involved in Patriots’ botched lateral play

Ty Law called out Rhamondre Stevenson, Mac Jones and Jakobi Meyers for the botched lateral play.

Former New England Patriots legendary corner Ty Law had an epic rant prepared, following the embarrassing Week 15 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.

With three seconds left in the game and the score tied in the fourth quarter, the Patriots ran a play that ended in Rhamondre Stevenson tossing a lateral pass to Jakobi Meyers, who then tried another lateral that was picked off and taken back for a game-winning touchdown by Chandler Jones.

Law gave the coaching staff a pass and noted that coach Bill Belichick makes a point, more so than any other coach he’s ever had, to teach good situational football. So this particular rant was directed solely at the players involved.

“You have an opportunity to play another series. The strength of your team is the defense,” said Law, when appearing on The Greg Hill Show. “How in the hell can you not go down? Do you see Rhamondre Stevenson’s stat line? 172 yards and 19 carries. But don’t nobody talk about him. But he’s the one that got the damn party started. He’s the one that pitches the first pass.

“Now Jakobi Meyers should have looked at that and been like, ‘You big dummy. What are you doing?’ And land the ball and got down, but he was like, ‘Oh, I guess it’s a party.’ And he goes and does the same thing, and then he’s going to try to throw it back to Mac Jones. I don’t know what kind of throw that was. They say he was a quarterback. I can’t tell. I can see why he’s the wide receiver.”

Most would have expected Law’s rant to be finished after going after both Stevenson and Meyers, but he had his eye on one more player he viewed as directly responsible for the way the game ended.

And that player was Mac Jones.

After Chandler Jones picked off the lateral pass attempt from Meyers, Mac Jones had an opportunity to make a tackle in the open field, and he didn’t even come close. The lasting image of the game is the Patriots’ quarterback being stiff-armed into the dirt.

“Now, Mac Jones, let’s get on him. He must have never—I’m talking about ever, ever, ever in his life played defense,” said Law. “You know how you were born to play quarterback, and you didn’t play no other position ever, ever in football? That was Mac Jones. That’s what he looked like on that tackle right there. That was absolutely awful. It was embarrassing. I want to know if he ever even in Pop Warner played on the defensive side of the ball.”

The loss against the Raiders didn’t completely put the Patriots out of playoff contention, but it drastically lowered their odds considering their last three games are against the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

That’s a massive uphill battle for a good football team, which the Patriots haven’t necessarily proven themselves to be this season.

If Tom Brady breaks tablets, NFL legend believes Mac Jones should be able to dispute play-calling

Mac Jones’ fiery passion has the approval of at least one NFL legend.

New England Patriots legend and Hall of Famer Ty Law loves the fire in quarterback Mac Jones, following the team’s 27-13 win against the Arizona Cardinals.

Jones was seen barking at offensive coordinator Matt Patricia during the course of the game. Multiple camera angles showed the quarterback shouting profanities, as he was upset with the play-calling at certain points.

It was a frustrating night for the Patriots offense. Jones managed 235 yards passing and an interception. His 75.3 passer rating was his lowest since he appeared in the Chicago Bears game on October 24. Nevertheless, the combination of the running game and New England’s defense allowed the organization to pick up their seventh victory of the year.

Law appeared on The Greg Hill Show Tuesday afternoon and praised the quarterback for having a fire lit under him, as transcribed by Zack Cox of NESN.com.

“Hell no. I love it. That’s what a leader is supposed to do,” said Law. “He’s supposed to step up. I think he’s doing the right thing. No one says anything when Tom Brady’s breaking tablets. [Has] he earned the right because he’s Tom Brady? Yes, but as a quarterback you have to step up and show the team that you want it. Tell the offensive coordinator that I don?t like this call. There have been plenty of times, [co-host Jermaine Wiggins], on our end that if we didn’t like a call we’d let [Bill] Belichick know, we’d let [former defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel] know, ‘We don’t like this call!’

“As a quarterback and what they’re facing right now, they don’t have a true offensive coordinator, what is a man supposed to do? You’ve got to show that team that, ‘Look I’m the leader. Follow me. Step up.'”

The play-calling on the offensive side of the football has been a hot topic, following New England’s loss to the Buffalo Bills at the beginning of the month. The offense struggled on Monday, and Jones has made it known he has not been pleased.

New England will look to form a winning streak, as they take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon. This is another game with implications in the playoff race, as both teams are fighting to firmly secure themselves in it.

Patriots legend Ty Law pulls no punches in criticism of team

Ty Law did not mince words in his criticism of the Patriots.

Pressure is mounting against the New England Patriots as they face an uphill battle in the playoff picture. They have received criticism from both players and fans alike, as the  offensive struggles came to a boiling point last Thursday night.

Hall of Fame cornerback Ty Law is the latest to voice his opinion.

Law was part of the golden era of Patriots football. He finished his career with 53 interceptions, including 36 with the Patriots. His best number in a season was 10 interceptions with the New York Jets in 2005.

The corner knows a thing or two about expectations, and he is disappointed with this year’s version of the Patriots. He was also disappointed with their effort against the Buffalo Bills, as transcribed by Dakota Randall of NESN.com.

“I don’t know what team showed up for the Patriots. I know we all know what Josh Allen is; they had a chip on their shoulder; Stefon Diggs put on a clinic at wide receiver, just the routes he was running. … The secondary, they need some help. They’ve gotta step up and play better. I understand they make some plays, but they’re just not the type of team right now that you can count on — this guy or this guy — making the play and making them a better football team.

“They still have a slim chance. They gotta damn near win out to get in, but there’s still a chance. But the way the schedule is lining up, I don’t have great expectations like, ‘Oh, they could do this.’ I wouldn’t put my money on it.”

That schedule includes the likes of the Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, and a final matchup with the Bills at Buffalo. It will be an uphill battle for New England to say the least.

The team is struggling, and the offensive inconsistencies will need to change as they make one final playoff push.
