Utah’s special custom helmets honoring Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe are so awesome

Utah is honoring Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe in such a cool way.

The Utah Utes are honoring two of their fallen teammates in an extremely cool way on Saturday when the team suits up against USC.

Aaron Lowe and Ty Jordan both lost their lives to gun violence over the last couple of years. Jordan was killed in an accidental shooting on Christmas Day of 2020. Lowe tragically died a year later in a shooting in September of 2021.

The two of them were close friends. After Jordan’s death, Lowe changed his number from 2 to 22 to honor his friend in one of the most awesome gestures we’ve seen in sports over the last few years.

Now, the entire team will honor them both with new custom, hand-painted helmets they’ll debut on Saturday against USC.

That’s so cool. Fans showed this a lot of love — rightfully so.

Pac-12 home teams paint 22-yard line hashmarks red in memory of Aaron Lowe and Ty Jordan

The Pac-12 home schools are honoring the memory of two Utah football players

USC isn’t playing Utah on Saturday. That didn’t stop the Trojans, and their fellow Pac-12 schools, from paying tribute to the memory of two Ute football players who have died in the 10 months.

The Trojans were playing Arizona at the LA Coliseum. They took time to have the 22-yard line hashes painted red in memory of Ty Jordan and Aaron Lowe.

Other schools did, too.

Utah is retiring the No. 22 Jordan and Lowe wore. Lowe was shot and killed Sept. 26, nine months after Jordan died in an accidental shooting Lowe switched from No. 2 to 22 this season to honor Jordan.

University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe fatally shot

The University of Utah is mourning the shooting of DB Aaron Lowe

The University of Utah has suffered the loss of another football player, the second in 10 months.

Sophomore cornerback Aaron Lowe was shot and killed at a house party early Sunday morning.

“We are devastated to hear about the passing of Aaron Lowe,” Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and friends, along with the other individual who was harmed in this tragic incident. Aaron was a great teammate, friend, brother and son and was loved by anyone who crossed paths with him. He will be deeply missed.”

There is a tragic irony to the death of Lowe, a defensive back.

Lowe was a Texas high school teammate of Ty Jordan, the Utah running back who was shot and killed in December.

Lowe was the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship. Lowe switched from No. 2 to No. 22 this season in an effort to honor Jordan’s legacy.

According to police, several people who were at the party may have witnessed the shooting but left before officers arrived.
