2023 PFL Playoffs 1 results: Jesus Pinedo dominates Bubba Jenkins to reach featherweight final

2023 PFL Playoffs 1 took place Friday and MMA Junkie provided live and official results throughout the entire card.

The event featured featherweight and light heavyweight semifinal bouts at Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio. The main card aired live on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET following prelims on ESPN+ beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

In the main event, [autotag]Bubba Jenkins[/autotag] (21-7) took on [autotag]Jesus Pinedo[/autotag] (22-6-1) in a featherweight semifinal bout. Pinedo entered the contest with a one-point deduction due to missing weight Thursday morning. Jenkins won both of his regular season bouts by picking up a unanimous decision over Chris Wade and a submission against Sung Bin Jo. Pinedo went 50/50 in his regular season outings, starting off with a split decision loss to Gabriel Alves Braga, but rebounding nicely with a first-round finish over 2022 champion Brendan Loughnane.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Josh Silveira[/autotag] (12-1) faced [autotag]Ty Flores[/autotag] (13-5) in a light heavyweight semifinal.  Silveira’s regular season run did not see a second round, as he submitted Sam Kei and picked up a TKO win against Delan Monte due to injury in the opening frame. Flores picked up unanimous decision wins over Monte and Dan Spohn in his regular season fights.

Josh Silveira punched his ticket to the PFL light heavyweight championship with a devastating finish of Ty Flores in San Antonio.

[autotag]Josh Silveira[/autotag] punched his ticket to the PFL light heavyweight championship with a nasty highlight reel finish.

In the co-feature of 2023 PFL Playoffs 1 at Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Silveira (12-1) scored another first-round finish – the third of his 2023 campaign. Ty Flores (13-5) couldn’t escape Silveira’s clutches in their light heavyweight semifinal bout and was stopped at 4:46 of Round 1.

Silveira was just a step ahead of Flores all the way up to the moment where he caught him in a Thai clinch and began unleashing brutal knees for the first-round finish. It was a brutal moment, which prompted the referee to rush in as soon as the final knee Silveira landed sent Flores stumbling into the fence. Flores debated the stoppage, but Silveira was right there ready to land more punches if the referee did not step in.

Silveira is now set to face Impa Kasanganay in the light heavyweight championship with a $1 million prize on the line. Kasanganay defeated Marthin Hamlet earlier in evening to advance to the final.

All three fights of Silveira’s 2023 PFL run have ended in the first round. He stopped Sam Kei with a submission, won a TKO due to injury against Delan Monte, and stopped Flores with brutal knees Friday evening.

2023 PFL 4 fighter pay: Bubba Jenkins, Movlid Khaybulaev top list with six figures

Check out the disclosed 2023 PFL 4 fighter pays released by the state of Georgia.

PFL returned to Atlanta this past Thursday for the first of three shows in consecutive weeks at Overtime Elite Arena.

2023 PFL 4 featured final regular season bouts at light heavyweight and featherweight, as well as a pair of showcase fights. The event saw a shocking main event result when former UFC fighter [autotag]Jesus Pinedo[/autotag] knocked out 2022 PFL featherweight champion [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag] with a brutal knee and punches in Round 1.

Also on the card, 2021 PFL featherweight champion [autotag]Movlid Khaybulaev[/autotag] defeated former UFC fighter [autotag]Tyler Diamond[/autotag], and former UFC bantamweight title challenger [autotag]Marlon Moraes[/autotag] retired after a knockout loss to [autotag]Gabriel Braga[/autotag].

MMA Junkie acquired a list of the 22 athletes’ disclosed payouts from the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission. The amounts do not include bonuses, sponsorships, or any other discretionary payments.

Two fighters, 2022 PFL featherweight runner-up [autotag]Bubba Jenkins[/autotag] and Khaybulaev, topped the list at $100,000 and were the only two athletes on the card with disclosed six-figure payouts.

The 2023 PFL light heavyweight season was forced into a major makeover.

Five of the 10 fighters competing in this year’s 205-pound weight class failed drug tests stemming from their first regular season bouts back in April in Las Vegas. The list included: Krzysztof Jotko, Mohammad Fakreddine, Will Fleury, Thiago Santos, and 2022 PFL light heavyweight champion Robert Wilkinson.

This forced the promotion to pull and replace the fighters with failed drug tests and resume the season with half the division’s roster being newcomers.

LAS VEGAS – The 2023 PFL season kicks off Saturday and the promotion held its first ceremonial faceoffs Friday at The Theater at Virgin Hotels.

2023 PFL 1 features the first of two regular season fights for its featherweight and light heavyweight fighters with a main card on ESPN/ESPN+ after prelims on ESPN+.

In the main event, 2022 PFL featherweight champion [autotag]Brendan Loughnane[/autotag] (26-4) returns against former UFC bantamweight title challenger [autotag]Marlon Moraes[/autotag] (23-11-1).

Also on the card, 2022 PFL light heavyweight champion [autotag]Robert Wilkinson[/autotag] (17-2) takes on former UFC light heavyweight title challenger [autotag]Thiago Santos[/autotag] (22-11).

Dana White signs two fighters to UFC after scouting Fury FC 53 in Denver

A Dallas-based middleweight and an a Glory MMA & Fitness standout are now on the UFC roster.

Two more fighters have been added to the UFC roster after promotion president Dana White scouted a regional show Sunday in Denver.

Fury FC 53 took place at Western National Complex and featured rising prospects from around the United States. White, along with friends Din Thomas and Matt Serra, were in attendance for the filming of an upcoming episode of “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight.”

Dallas-area middleweight [autotag]Joseph Holmes[/autotag] (7-1) and Glory MMA & Fitness standout [autotag]Trey Ogden[/autotag] (15-4) impressed the UFC boss enough to receive contract offers, according to an Instagram post from their manager Jason House, CVO of Iridium Sports Agency.

Holmes, 26, was offered another opportunity to fight in front of White an after he won on Dana White’s Contender Series in October. Against a fellow DWCS alum [autotag]Jhonoven Pati[/autotag] (6-6), Holmes connected on a brutal knockout punch and follow-up shot that ended the fight in highlight reel fashion.

As for Ogden, he headlined Fury FC 53 against American Kickboxing Acadamy (AKA) prospect [autotag]JJ Okanovich[/autotag] (8-3) and won by second-round technical submission. Ogden shined on the ground where he largely controlled the fight for its entirety before he locked in an arm-triangle choke.

DWCS standout [autotag]Mo Miller[/autotag] (6-1) was unsuccessful in his second attempt to impress the UFC boss. He lost the first fight of his professional career when he was submitted by Jose Johnson (13-7).

Bellator alumnus [autotag]George Tokkos[/autotag] (6-2), DWCS alum [autotag]Ty Flores[/autotag] (9-3), former CFFC flyweight champion [autotag]Alberto Trujillo[/autotag] (6-2), former Combate Americas title challenger [autotag]Andres Quintana[/autotag] (19-3), and rising Elevation Fight Team lightweight [autotag]Arut Pogosjan[/autotag] (9-3) were among the others victorious on the card.

NAC changes Trevin Jones’ UFC on ESPN 15 win to no contest after positive marijuana test

The NAC has changed Trevin Jones’ comeback win vs. Timur Valiev to a no contest after a positive marijuana test.

The decision of [autotag]Trevin Jones[/autotag]’ UFC debut has been changed.

On Wednesday, the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) officially changed the decision of Jones’ UFC on ESPN 15 win over Timur Valiev to a “no contest. The change was made due to Jones (12-6 MMA, 0-0 UFC) testing positive for marijuana in connection with his Aug. 22 fight at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

In addition to overturning Jones’ win, the NAC suspended Jones four-and-a-half months and fined him $1,800. Before he is relicensed in Las Vegas, Jones will also have to pay a prosecution fee of $145.36.

The Aug. 22 matchup was one Jones took on days’ notice. Stepping in as the biggest underdog on the card across all major online sportsbooks, against a former World Series of Fighting standout in Valiev (16-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), Jones absorbed a large amount of punishment in Round 1.

In Round 2, Jones turned the tables on Valiev, flooring the Russian fighter with a right hand before finishing the fight with follow-up punches. The win earned him a $50,000 bonus for “Performance of the Night.”

Jones was not the only Zuffa fighter on the NAC’s agenda on Wednesday. UFC light heavyweight [autotag]Jorge Gonzalez[/autotag] was suspended 24 months, in conjunction with a previously accepted U.S. Anti-Doping Agency sanction.

Dana White’s Contender Series, Season 4 competitors [autotag]Chad Johnson[/autotag] (amphetamine), [autotag]Joe Pyfer[/autotag] (modulator metabolites), [autotag]Jose Flores[/autotag] (marijuana), and [autotag]Ty Flores[/autotag] (methylclostebol) also were addressed by the commission. No decision was reached on the four DWCS fighters, with hearings being tabled until a later date. All four fighters lost their respective DWCS bouts.
