Social media blows up after faux draft trade between Chargers, Giants

It’s easy to fall for anything you see on social media around this time.

Like any other year, the anticipation for the NFL draft is at an all-time high as we are just days out now.

This is the time where rumors and storylines are made up by imposter accounts of actual reporters to have people believe anything and everything they see.

In this case, it was the “Chargers’ official Twitter account” that had the general population buzzing.

A fake announcement from what looked to be Los Angeles’ Twitter account said the team was packaging a third-round pick (No. 77 overall) with the No. 13 selection to the Giants in order to move up to No. 11.

The official account Pro Football Focus account quote-tweeted it out, writing, “Posted and deleted by the Chargers,” with the side-eye emoji.

Then, Twitter user Max Merten claimed he was the one who created the tweet with a photo editor and responded to PFF.

“I actually use them (the graphics) for a mock draft of mine, so it looks more realistic, but I thought I could also try and bamboozle some people,” Merten said.

In reality, draft trades do happen before the actual event, but only moving two spots had people scratching their heads all while believing it, considering we don’t know who will be on the board at the time.

Los Angeles could certainly make a trade on draft night, especially if they’re heavily targeting a player like Penei Sewell, Rashawn Slater or Jaycee Horn. Only time will tell.

Twitter reacts to Chargers’ 38-31 loss to Buccaneers

The Los Angeles Chargers blew a 17-point lead and fans were outraged with the final outcome.

It started out really good for the Chargers, but when it started to go downhill, they were unable to make up for the downward spiral. In the end, the Buccaneers came away victorious, 38-31.

It was another familiar sight for fans of Los Angeles, witnessing their favorite team look like they’re going to walk away with a win, but failing to hold strong.

Let’s take a look at how they along with the rest of social media reacted following the Bolts’ Week 4 loss:

Watch: Current/former Chargers pay homage to Antonio Gates

Current and former Chargers paid respect to Antonio Gates.

What a career it was for Antonio Gates.

The 39-year old announced that he is retiring from the NFL after posting one of the most polished resumes by anyone that has played the position.

Gates retires with 236 games played (190 starts), and posted a franchise-leading 955 receptions, 11,841 receiving yards and 116 touchdowns.

Gates’ legacy will forever be coveted by fans of the Chargers, as well as his former teammates and coaches.

To pay respect to Gates, current and former members of the team let their voices be heard in a compilation video.

It includes quarterbacks Philip Rivers and Drew Brees, running back Melvin Gordon, defensive end Melvin Ingram, safety Eric Weddle, Shawne Merriman and LaDainian Tomlinson among others.

Twitter reacts to Chargers’ loss to Broncos

Social media went crazy following the Chargers’ loss to the Broncos.

It was the same episode that all Chargers fans are used to, watching their favorite team suffer defeat in the final seconds as Broncos kicker Brandon McManus hit the game-winning field goal from 53 yards out.

McManus was in that position because cornerback Casey Hayward was hit with a head-scratching defensive pass interference penalty on a deep pass that was intended to wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

It caused outrage as many made the argument that DPI should have never been called. With nothing that could be done, Los Angeles watched as the ball went through the uprights, knowing that they dropped yet another game by a single possession.

Here is how social media reacted to the Chargers’ 23-20 loss to the Broncos.

Twitter reacts to Chargers’ loss to Chiefs

People on Twitter had a lot to say about quarterback Philip Rivers following the Chargers’ loss to the Chiefs.

The Chargers were in need of a victory in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, but instead, quarterback Philip Rivers was unable to guide his team and is at fault for their gut-wrenching loss to the Chiefs.

Rivers struggled to take care of the football, finishing the game with four interceptions. His turnovers were what cost Los Angeles from winning in primetime.

With the loss, the Bolts are now sitting at 4-7, and their shot at the postseason is now nearly nonexistent.

Here’s a look at Twitter following the Chargers’ 24-17 loss to the Chiefs on Monday night:
