Michigan State basketball will apparently host Bowling Green and assistant coach Tum Tum Nairn at the Breslin Center

According to a report from Rocco Miller, Michigan State basketball is adding another non-conference match-up to their schedule this season, hosting Bowling Green on November 16.

The Spartans have multiple connections to Bowling Green, where former point guard Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn Jr. is currently an assistant coach. It’s also the former home of Women’s Basketball head coach Robyn Fralick.

A former Spartans’ guard could find himself in the Olympics later this month

A former Spartans’ guard could find himself in the Olympics later this month.

Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn is a member on the Bahamas national team that is now just one win away from qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The Bahamas beat Lebanon on Saturday to reach the qualifying title game against Spain on Sunday, where a win would send the Bahamas to its first-ever Olympics.

Nairn played nearly 12 minutes in Saturday’s win over Lebanon and recorded two rebounds and one assist.

Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn to play for Bahamas’ Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Former Michigan State basketball point guard Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn Jr. is currently the associate head coach for Bowling Green, but that’s not going to stop him from suiting up with some NBA players to try and help the Bahamas get their basketball team into the Olympics.

The former MSU guard will play with names like DeAndre Ayton, Buddy Hield, and Eric Gordon in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The Tournament starts this week.

Tum Tum’s promotion at BGSU suggests he is no longer a candidate for the Spartans’ open assistant coach position

A former Spartan has received a notable coaching promotion at a Mid-American Conference school.

Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn Jr. was promoted to Associate Head Coach at Bowling Green State University on Wednesday. Nairn has been an assistant coach for the Falcons the past two seasons — which Bowling Green has won 20 wins in each year.

This news related to Nairn is even more noteworthy for Michigan State fans as he was considered a candidate for a currently vacant assistant coach position on Tom Izzo’s staff. However, with Nairn accepting this promotion with the Falcons, we can assume he will no longer be a candidate for that open role.

After spending last season with Southern Utah, former Michigan State basketball point guard Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn Jr. will follow former Southern Utah head coach Todd Simon to Bowling Green and join the Falcons’ staff as an assistant coach.

Before Southern Utah, Nairn spent time at Sunrise Christian Academy, the Phoenix Suns, and of course, Michigan State.

Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn was known as a fan favorite point guard during his time donning the green and white. Now, fans can cheer for him as he climbs the coaching ranks.

Following his time playing, Nairn caught on with MSU as a graduate assistant, which he used to get an assistant coaching job with Southern Utah University.

When Southern Utah head coach Todd Simon took the job at Bowling Green, he called Nairn to come with him, which Nairn accepted.

Tum Tum Nairn is being given an opportunity to coach at the collegiate level

Tum Tum Nairn’s name was thrown around when Michigan State had an assistant coach vacancy, but he wasn’t chosen for the job. Nairn, a standout guard and captain at Michigan State from 2015-2018, is building a nice start to a coaching career. Fresh out of college, Nairn joined the Phoenix Suns in a player development role. He parlayed that into a role with Sunrise Christian Academy, one of the premiere schools in high school basketball.

Now, Nairn has been given an opportunity to coach at the collegiate level. Southern Utah head coach Todd Simon is hiring Nairn as an assistant coach on his staff.

Southern Utah competes in the Western Athletic Conference.

Tom Izzo’s top assistant, Dwayne Stephens, is leaving the Michigan State program after being hired as the head coach of Western Michigan. Stephens had been by Izzo’s side for the past 19 seasons, but has now decided to make the jump into leading his own program.

Now, Izzo has the opportunity to reinforce his staff with a new hire. The question now becomes, will Izzo bring back a familiar face or will he branch out and bring fresh blood to the program.

Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn will leave Michigan State’s staff to become the head coach of the PostGrad team at Sunrise Christian Academy.

Tum Tum Nairn is heading back to his old high school stomping grounds. On Thursday, Sunrise Christian Academy announced that Lourawls ‘Tum Tum’ Nairn will become the Head Coach of the PostGrad Basketball team.

Tum Tum had spent the last two seasons on Izzo’s staff as a graduate manager.

Tum Tum played high school ball for Sunrise Christian Academy, which is also the home of current Spartan Malik Hall and future Spartan Jaden Akins.
