Patrick Queen among 7 Ravens to to participate in these Pro Bowl events

Kevin Zeitler and Roquan Smith are among Baltimore Ravens set to participate in the Pro Bowl Skills showdown on Thursday night and the Flag Football game on Sunday

The Ravens were the NFL’s best team during the regular season, and the AFC power was properly represented on the Pro Bowl team, with seven players named.

Baltimore’s Pro Bowlers were quarterback Lamar Jackson, linebacker Roquan Smith, safety Kyle Hamilton, defensive tackle Justin Madubuike, center Tyler Linderbaum, linebacker Patrick Queen, and kicker Justin Tucker.

It’s the first time for Hamilton, Madubuike, Queen, and Linderbaum – all players General Manager Eric DeCosta drafted.

The Pro Bowl Games get underway Thursday, and every player selected except Lamar Jackson will be participating in Pro Bowl skills challenges.

Williams’ 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions 34-31 in the NFC Championship on Sunday to advance to Super Bowl LVIII. San Francisco trailed 24-7 at halftime before outscoring Detroit 17-0 in the third quarter and scored 27 consecutive points to take a 34-24 lead before holding off the Lions in a three-point win.

Williams spent the first 10 seasons of his NFL career in Washington after being the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 NFL draft. His falling out with former team president Bruce Allen was well documented.

Yet, when Ron Rivera took over as head coach in 2020, he traded Williams to the 49ers for a 2020 fifth-round pick and a 2021 third-round pick.

Since coming to San Francisco, Williams has been named first-team All-Pro three times and appeared in the three NFC Championship games.

At 35, Williams remains arguably the NFL’s best offensive tackle, and now, he’ll be playing for his first championship.

As you’d expect, Williams was excited and emotional after Sunday’s game.

Sooners lead the way in Super Bowl participants

Oklahoma Sooners lead the way in number of participants in this year’s Super Bowl.

Oklahoma fans will have plenty of reason to watch this year’s Super Bowl regardless of their NFL fan affiliation. Even if you aren’t a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs or the San Francisco 49ers, multiple Sooners on both teams will battle for the right to be crowned Super Bowl LVIII champions.

The talented Chiefs are spearheaded by the league’s best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, whom the Sooners know all too well. The former Texas Tech quarterback is the league’s best player, and despite his team not being the juggernaut it has been in the past, the team is one win away from its third title in four Super Bowl appearances.

Two former Sooners, All-Pro Creed Humphrey and Wanya Morris, anchor the offensive line that helps block for Mahomes. Morris has been a revelation this season for the Chiefs and looks to be a core part of the Kansas City’s future. Humphrey is considered one of the league’s best centers.

Joining them in the Super Bowl is Blake Bell, known to many in the OU fandom as the “Belldozer.” Blake Bell has carved out a reliable role as a backup tight end and special teams player for the Chiefs. He has ties to both teams in this game. It was the 49ers who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He caught a pass in the last Super Bowl these teams played against one another in 2019. Lastly, James Winchester is making his fourth Super Bowl appearance. He’s the most tenured of all Sooners turned Chiefs and has spent nine years as the long snapper for Kansas City.

The list of Sooners for the NFC Champions isn’t quite as long, but San Francisco has its own Crimson and Cream flair. Trent Williams, one of the league’s best players and a sure-fire Hall of Famer, will make another trip to the Super Bowl as he looks to cement his career with a ring.

Williams has been a dominant force even as he entered his 30s. His play has yet to diminish, and he’s the driving force behind an elite 49ers offense. Brayden Willis, a fan favorite from his time in Norman, will have the chance to win a Super Bowl ring in his rookie year after he was drafted in the seventh round last April.

That’s six Sooners set to play for a Super Bowl title—the most of any school in the country for the second consecutive year. While rooting interests may be divided, no matter what happens, multiple Oklahoma Sooners will be crowned champions when the dust settles on Super Bowl LVIII.

17 ex-Commanders will compete in AFC, NFC Championship Games

Several former Washington players/coaches will be in action on NFL championship weekend.

The NFL divisional round is in the books. The AFC and NFC conference championship games are set for this weekend.

In the AFC, the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens will host the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Lamar Jackson will face Patrick Mahomes.

On the NFC side, the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers host the Detroit Lions. This is Detroit’s first NFC championship appearance since the 1991 season. It’s been so long for the Lions that their last championship game appearance came during Washington’s last Super Bowl season.

Speaking of Washington, we’ve examined the rosters and coaching staffs of the final four remaining teams and noticed several former Washington players/coaches in action this weekend.

We’ve counted 17 former Washington players or coaches on the rosters or coaching staffs of the final four teams this weekend. If we’ve missed anyone, let us know.

One voter’s 2023 AP First-Team All-Pro ballot

There are moments in your career where you think to yourself… “Yeah, this is a moment to remember.” Two years ago, when the Associated Press asked me to be one of the analysts responsible for voting for the First- and Second-Team All-Pro teams, as well as NFL Most Valuable Player and all other individual awards, that was certainly such a moment for me.

So, this is my second year of voting, and I wanted to share my first-team ballot with our readers. It’s an honor I take incredibly seriously, and this process involves a ton of advanced metrics, tape study, and reflections from a season of diving into both.

Some of these votes were easy; some were incredibly difficult. But it will give you a bit of insight into what happens with an All-Pro vote.

49ers have 2 unanimous First-Team All-Pros

Seven members of the San Francisco 49ers were represented on the 2023 AP All-Pro team.

After securing the No. 1 overall seed with the best overall record in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers’ star-studded roster is already being decorated with individual accolades.

While multiple players have been voted to participate in the Pro Bowl, the 49ers will also be well-represented on the Associated Press All-Pro team for 2023.

Seven total players from the 49ers were included on the All-Pro team, including two unanimous First-Team All-Pros. Only three players receivined unanimous nods for the All-Pro First-Team, and two of them were members of the 49ers.

Running back Christian McCaffrey and linebacker Fred Warner were unanimous First-Team All-Pros. Miami Dolphins pass catcher Tyreek Hill also received a unanimous vote.

The NFLPA announced the 2nd All-Pro team voted on by players. The #49ers are well-represented:

The NFL Players’ Association last year began announcing an All-Pro team that’s voted on by players. This offers a different perspective on the league’s best players than the one presented by the All-Pro teams voted on by media.

San Francisco is well-represented on the second-annual NFLPA All-Pro team with four players landing on the list. Dallas has the most representatives with five.
