Vikings vs. 49ers initial injury report

The 49ers have five starters not practicing with only Ezra Cleveland fully sitting out for the Vikings

The initial injury report for the Minnesota Vikings’ Monday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is out and the Vikings only have four players on it.

  • LG Ezra Cleveland (foot)-Did not practice
  • CB Akayleb Evans (oblique)-Limited
  • OLB Pat Jones II (shoulder)-Limited
  • WR Jalen Nailor (hamstring)-Limited

Cleveland left Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with a mid-foot sprain. If he can’t go on Sunday, Dalton Risner will get the start.

Evans looks to have fully healed from his knee injury, but an oblique isn’t something to mess with.

Jones is a new addition with a shoulder injury. If he can’t go, Andre Carter II will likely be active.

Nailor began his practice window on Wednesday and it appears that the Vikings will be ramping him up slowly.

The 49ers have multiple players on their injury report, including five starters not practicing.

  • LG Aaron Banks (ankle)-Did not practice
  • LB Dre Greenlaw (hamstring)-Did not practice
  • RB Christian McCaffrey (oblique)-Did not practice
  • WR Deebo Samuel (shoulder)-Did not practice
  • CB Isaiah Oliver (knee)-Limited
  • S George Odum (quadricep)-Full

5 reasons for optimism for Vikings vs. 49ers

The Minnesota Vikings might be 2-4, but there are still reasons to be optimistic as they take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night

The Minnesota Vikings are set for a tough battle against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.

When looking at these two teams, they couldn’t have had a more different start to the season. The 49ers sit at 5-1 with their only loss on the road against the Cleveland Browns and the Vikings are 2-4 with their only wins coming on the road against the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears.

They do have one thing in common: their only wins against the spread came when they also won the game.

Going into Monday night’s game, there are still reasons to be optimistic for the Vikings.

49ers injury updates on Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams

Head coach Kyle Shanahan had some updates on injuries to Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams:

The 49ers had their first major brush with the injury bug in 2023 during their 19-17 loss to the Browns in Week 6.

During the game they lost running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Left tackle Trent Williams missed two plays with an ankle injury, but returned.

After the game Williams was seen in a walking boot and Samuel had x-rays that came back negative.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn’t have any updates immediately after the game, but provided some Monday in his conference call with reporters.

Here is all the latest:

Myles Garrett leaves Trent Williams with Hall of Fame praise after Browns win over 49ers

From one Hall of Famer to another, Trent Williams was left with nothing but praise for Myles Garrett as the Browns beat the 49ers.

Defensive end Myles Garrett did not record a sack as the Cleveland Browns shocked the world in a 19-17 win over the previously undefeated San Francisco 49ers. However, his impact was evident as he supplied constant pressure, and even got the best of future Hall of Fame offensive tackle Trent Williams.

And the left tackle understood the importance of Garrett’s impact, heaping him with praise after the game. Williams even referred to Garrett as a Hall of Famer in his postgame presser. That was not the end of the praise for Garrett and the Cleveland defensive front either:

“He’s one the best in the world… so we battled. It was tough. We’ve got a lot of respect for each other. He’s everything I thought he was going to be… They’ve got a really good front eight. [No.] 95 is the catalyst for all of that, and it’s not just him. Obviously, it’s more than just him. He’s just the biggest part, so we tried to do what we could do to contain him.” (via Nate Ulrick of Akron Beacon Journal)

Thanks to Garrett, who is having a Defensive Player of the Year-worthy season, and the rest of the Cleveland defense, the Browns now sit at 3-2 with the chance to make a significant run.

Why 49ers LT Trent Williams played through ankle injury vs. Browns

Here’s why Trent Williams played through an injury that had him in a walking boot after Sunday’s game:

Left tackle Trent Williams was one of a slew of 49ers who suffered injuries in the team’s Week 6 loss to the Browns.

He left the game briefly in the first quarter after getting his ankle rolled up on. Jaylon Moore took over for the rest of that series, but Williams re-entered and finished the game.

It was clear the injury was bothering him and after the game he was in a walking boot per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner.

Williams told reporters he played through a lot of pain to finish Sunday’s game.

It didn’t feel good at all,” Williams said via Wagoner. “It’s football. I just tried to fight through it for my teammates. They’ve got a Hall of Fame rusher over there in 95 (Browns DE Myles Garrett) and I wanted to get back out there so I could kind of help my team try to contain him. I didn’t want to put Jaylon in that position.”

The 49ers held Garrett without a sack, but the Browns defensive line had a huge day against Williams and San Francisco’s offensive line.

It’s unclear whether Williams’ injury is anything long-term. Moore would be the next man up if the veteran left tackle does miss time. Head coach Kyle Shanahan should have an update Monday when he talks to reporters.

Myles Garrett discards Trent Williams in 1-on-1 battle

Myles Garrett showed major strength by shedding big Trent Williams

Talk about strength vs. strength.

Something had to give on Sunday in Cleveland when Browns star defensive lineman Myles Garrett went up against 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams.

In one round in the first half, the Browns’ defensive star won the duel by shedding the 6-foot-5, 320-pound Williams.

49ers injury update: Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams questionable to return vs. Browns

Bad injury news for the #49ers. Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel are both questionable to return vs. the Browns.

The 49ers have avoided injuries for the most part this season, but the injury bug hit them hard Sunday in Cleveland.

Left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel are both questionable to return to the game after getting banged up in the first quarter.

Williams is dealing with an ankle issue after getting rolled up on. Samuel has a shoulder injury, but it’s unclear when he got hurt.

Browns vs. 49ers: Myles Garrett tosses All-Pro Trent Williams aside with ease

The Browns are putting up a fight against the undefeated 49ers as Myles Garrett works Trent Williams

The Cleveland Browns are not backing down from the undefeated San Francisco 49ers. Despite an opening drive where the Niners drove down the field, the Jim Schwartz-led defense buckled in the second drive, forcing them into a long field goal chance that was missed. And on that drive, Myles Garrett tossed aside All-Pro offensive tackle Trent Williams on his way to sniffing out a screen pass.

Linebackers Anthony Walker Jr. and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah then met running back Christian McCaffrey deep in the backfield for a massive loss. The game still sits 7-0 in favor of the Niners after both teams missed a kick, but the Browns are not afraid of these NFC juggernauts.

Still in the first quarter of a game where the weather is anything but perfect, the Browns have to capitalize on scoring opportunities. However, the defense (that came into the game as the league’s best) continues to do their part.

Trent Williams was seemingly willing to take on the entire Browns team during a fiery pregame scuffle

Trent Williams was READY.

The Niners went into Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns as one of two undefeated teams remaining in the NFL. And we saw almost immediately the kind of confidence the Niners had even during warmups.

They didn’t need the game to start for us to see some fireworks in Cleveland.

Video from before the game showed Niners receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel jawing with Browns players and eventually throwing some shoves at safety Juan Thornhill. That could have set off a bigger incident or a full-out brawl. But that apparently wasn’t happening on Niners offensive lineman Trent Williams’ watch.

The moment the 6-foot-5, 320-pound Williams got involved with the scuffle, nobody on the Browns seemed especially interested in taking the altercation any further. There was one shove after that, but the scene cleared out quickly. After all, that is one large human.

Still, the scene of Williams being willing to take on an entire NFL team by himself had fans making plenty of jokes.
