49ers inactives: Christian McCaffrey officially in, Trent Williams officially out vs. Vikings

The #49ers inactives are out. Trent Williams won’t play. Christian McCaffrey will.

The 49ers are officially without their starting left tackle for Monday Night Football against the Vikings. Trent Williams was one of the seven players listed as inactive for the contest.

Williams was originally listed as doubtful on the injury report because of an ankle injury he suffered in Week 6. He wasn’t expected to play, but his placement among the inactives confirms he won’t participate.

Here’s who won’t suit up for San Francisco:

QB Brandon Allen (QB3)
LT Trent Williams (ankle)

WR Deebo Samuel (shoulder)
DL Kalia Davis
LB Jalen Graham
RB Tyrion Davis-Price
TE Brayden Willis

Samuel was ruled out because of a hairline fracture in his shoulder. That injury was also sustained in Week 6 at Cleveland. He’s expected to miss Week 8 as well.

Not listed is running back Christian McCaffrey. He was questionable with an oblique injury. The expectation was that he’d play, but now he is officially suiting up.

Report: All-Pro OL Trent Williams (ankle) won’t play vs. Vikings on Monday Night Football

The All-Pro offensive lineman has been dealing with an ankle injury.

With Deebo Samuel already ruled out, the San Francisco 49ers could be without another key piece on offense for Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.

After missing practice for most of the week, All-Pro offensive tackle Trent Williams has been listed as doubtful for Monday Night Football in Santa Clara.

In an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Williams will not play against the Vikings due to his ankle injury. While Samuel and Williams won’t play, Christian McCaffrey (oblique) will be on the field on Monday Night, per Schefter.

49ers practice report: 3 key 49ers remain out

The #49ers didn’t get much good news in Friday’s practice report:

The 49ers on Friday released their second practice participation report of the week. With the Monday night game, everything gets pushed back one day, so the Friday report is like a Thursday report in a normal week. There’ll be an official status report for Monday night released Saturday.

There were two changes from Thursday to Friday,  but three key 49ers remain out of practice.

Here’s the participation report from Friday’s session:

4 things Vikings need to do to upset 49ers in Week 7

Here are four ways the Vikings can pull off the upset against the 49ers

The Minnesota Vikings play the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, and it’s going to take a monumental effort for the Vikings to pull off the upset. The 49ers have been one of the most dominant teams in the league not just this season, but for the past few seasons.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has concocted an incredible offensive scheme, and general manager John Lynch has amassed a lineup filled with stars that has made one Super Bowl and three Conference Championship games the past four seasons.

On the surface, it would seem like a true David vs. Goliath scenario. One that would require a Herculean effort to pull off. While it may seem like the Vikings would need the help of the gods to pull off an upset of this magnitude, remember: This is the NFL, and it’s really hard to win games. It’s even harder to do it consistently.

The 49ers found that out the hard way last week, as they were upset by the Cleveland Browns. The law of averages would make you think it can’t happen again. There’s no way that the 49ers could be upset by lesser teams in back-to-back weeks, right?

Stranger things have happened, and there are ways Minnesota could pull off the seemingly impossible. It won’t be easy, but nothing ever is in the NFL.
