2025 cornerback Tre Poteat commits to Tennessee.

2025 cornerback prospect Tre Poteat committed to Tennessee on Tuesday. He’s the Vols fourth commit to 2025 class in less than a week.

“110% committed,” Poteat said.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound three-star cornerback is from Verona Area High School in Verona, Wisconsin.

Poteat ranks as the No. 545 overall player in the class of 2025. He also ranks as the No. 48 cornerback and No. 4 player in Wisconsin.

Poteat officially visited Tennessee on June 21.

Poteat is the son to former Pitt and Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Hank Poteat.

Tennessee has 15 commitments in its 2025 recruiting class: Quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, tight end Jack Vandorselaer, cornerback Dylan Lewis, running back Justin Baker, wide receiver Joakim Dodson, cornerback Tyler Redmond, safety Sidney Walton, wide receiver Radarious Jackson, offensive lineman Antoni Kade Ogumoro, edge Jayden Loftin, offensive lineman Nic Moore, defensive lineman Charles House, offensive lineman Douglas Utu and Poteat.

Wisconsin top class of 2025 cornerback target Tre Poteat committed to Tennessee on Tuesday.

The three-star cornerback chose the Volunteers over the in-state Badgers and the Iowa State Cyclones. He commits on the heels of an official visit to Tennessee back on June 21.

Poteat is 247Sports’ No. 545 player in the class of 2025, No. 48 cornerback and No. 4 recruit from the state of Wisconsin. The Verona, Wisconsin native had a substantial connection to the Badgers program: his father Hank Poteat was its cornerbacks coach under Paul Chryst from 2021-2022 before joining the Iowa State coaching staff in the same capacity (2023-present).

The cornerback’s commitment to Tennessee marks another recruiting loss for the Badgers in what has been an up-and-down week. The program beat out Florida State for three-star edge rusher Nicolas Clayton, then saw four-star cornerback Rukeem Stroud flip his commitment from Wisconsin to UCF.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025 currently ranks No. 13 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten with 20 total commitments. The program does remain in contention for several top targets including four-star DL Kade Pietrzak, four-star RB Byron Louis and four-star iOL Hardy Watts, so there remain opportunities for the class to continue to grow.

Wisconsin top class of 2025 CB target to announce commitment Tuesday afternoon

Wisconsin top class of 2025 CB target to announce commitment Tuesday afternoon

Wisconsin top class of 2025 target cornerback Tre Poteat will announce his commitment decision at 3:30 p.m. Eastern, 2:30 p.m. Central later today on Tuesday, June 25.

The Badgers are considered a finalist to land the three-star in-state cornerback along with Tennessee and Iowa State. But the Badgers may be fighting an uphill battle, as 247Sports has two crystal ball predictions logged for Poteat to choose the Volunteers. Those predictions came from Wisconsin insiders Evan Flood and Nick Osen, both in the last week.

Poteat is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 545 player in the class of 2025, No. 48 cornerback and No. 4 recruit from the state of Wisconsin. He has a strong connection to the Wisconsin program, as his father Hank Poteat was the Badgers’ cornerbacks coach under Paul Chryst from 2021-2022 before moving on to take the cornerbacks job on Iowa State’s coaching staff (2023-present).

But despite those connections, it appears the talented cornerback is leaning toward Tennessee in advance of his commitment announcement later this afternoon.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025 recently fell to 20 total commitments after four-star CB Rukeem Stroud flipped to UCF. The class currently ranks No. 13 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten, though the Badgers do remain in contention for several top targets including four-star DL Kade Pietrzak, four-star RB Byron Louis and four-star iOL Hardy Watts.

The Badgers landing a commitment from Poteat would be a welcome surprise after the class lost its top-ranked cornerback earlier in the week.

Wisconsin football 2025 target Tre Poteat receives crystal ball to an SEC power

Wisconsin top remaining class of 2025 target cornerback Tre Poteat received a 247Sports crystal ball to choose Tennessee last week. The prediction came from Wisconsin insider Evan Flood and was given with a ‘medium’ confidence level.

Poteat is one of Wisconsin’s top remaining targets in the class of 2025. The Badgers are still considered a finalist to land his commitment along with Tennessee and Iowa State.

The three-star cornerback just wrapped up an official visit to the Volunteers’ program on June 21, that after visiting the Badgers back in late May.

Poteat is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 542 player in the class of 2025, No. 47 cornerback and No. 4 recruit from the state of Wisconsin. Notably, his father Hank Poteat was Wisconsin’s cornerbacks coach under Paul Chryst from 2021-2022 before moving on to take the cornerbacks job on Iowa State’s coaching staff (2023-present).

Despite Tre Poteat’s ties to Iowa State and proximity to the Wisconsin football program, signs point toward Tennessee winning his commitment.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025 added its 21st commitment on Saturday by landing three-star edge rusher Nicolas Clayton. The group currently ranks No. 12 in the national rankings as the class of 2025 cycle nears July.

Luke Fickell and his coaching staff still have several top targets remaining on the board with official visits now mostly concluded. Poteat is one of those players, despite the recent trend toward Tennessee.

2025 cornerback prospect receives Tennessee crystal ball prediction

2025 cornerback prospect receives Tennessee football crystal ball prediction.

2025 cornerback prospect Tre Poteat received a crystal ball prediction to commit to Tennessee, according to Evan Flood of 247Sports.

Flood, with Badger247, has correctly picked 71 percent of his projections. His confidence grade for Poteat’s commitment to Tennessee is medium at six.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound three-star cornerback is from Verona Area High School in Verona, Wisconsin.

Poteat ranks as the No. 541 overall player in the class of 2025. He also ranks as the No. 47 cornerback and No. 4 player in Wisconsin.

Poteat will officially visit Tennessee on Friday.

The Vols have 10 commitments in its 2025 recruiting class: Quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, tight end Jack Van Dorseiaer, cornerback Dylan Lewis, running back Justin Baker, wide receiver Joakim Dodson, cornerback Tyler Redmond, safety Sidney Walton, wide receiver Radarious Jackson and offensive lineman Antoni Kade Ogumoro.

Wisconsin top class of 2025 cornerback target Tre Poteat will take an official visit to Tennessee this weekend.

Wisconsin and Tennessee are considered among the top contenders to land the three-star cornerback along with Michigan and Iowa State. Poteat previously visited Wisconsin on May 31 and is yet to take a trip to either Ann Arbor, Michigan or Ames, Iowa, according to 247Sports.

The Verona, Wisconsin native is 247Sports’ No. 542 player in the class of 2025, No. 47 cornerback and No. 4 recruit from the state of Wisconsin.

He is also the son of former Wisconsin cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat. Poteat coached at Wisconsin under Paul Chryst from 2021-2022 before moving on to take the cornerbacks job on Iowa State’s coaching staff (2023-present).

247Sports does not have any crystal ball predictions logged for Tre Poteat’s college destination. On3’s prediction machine, meanwhile, gives the Badgers a 38.1% chance to land a commitment, with Michigan second at 33.3%.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025 currently ranks No. 12 in the nation and No. 4 in the Big Ten at this stage in the cycle. The program still has a shot to land several of its remaining top targets, so expect the class to continue to grow in the coming days.

The class is already loaded at cornerback with commitments from four-star Rukeem Stroud, three-star Jaimier Scott and three-star Jahmare Washington. Luke Fickell has made the defensive backfield a priority since taking over as head coach, so I wouldn’t expect the program to be done adding at the position.

Poteat is the Badgers’ top remaining cornerback target on the board, though the Badgers have some legitimate competition to land his commitment.

Wisconsin hands out first in-state offer in 2025 to CB Tre Poteat

Wisconsin hands out their first in-state offer of the 2025 recruiting class:

On Monday night, Paul Chryst and his coaching staff extended their first in-state offer of the 2025 recruiting class to defensive back Tre Poteat out of Verona, Wisconsin.

This offer comes on the heels of a strong performance in front of Wisconsin’s coaching staff during their team camp this past week.

If the name Poteat sounds familiar, it’s because Tre is the son of current Badgers cornerback’s coach Hank Poteat.

Although he has yet to play at the varsity level, the in-state corner possesses all of the elite traits you like to see in a young CB prospect. You can watch his highlights here.

Standing at 6-foot, 170 pounds, the Verona High School standout already holds offers from Connecticut, Eastern Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Toledo, and now Wisconsin.

Poteat is just the seventh player in the 2025 recruiting class to receive a scholarship offer from Wisconsin, and the first player from inside the state.

The Wisconsin native announced his scholarship offer from the University of Wisconsin via his Twitter account:
