Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes on connecting with Travis Kelce for another career milestone

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on connecting with Travis Kelce for another career milestone | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes helped his teammate Travis Kelce achieve another career milestone, tying Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdown receptions in franchise history. Mahomes explained the record-tying connection during his postgame press conference on Sunday.

“Yeah, I mean fourth-and-goal – (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid giving us a chance to get a touchdown. Trav (Travis Kelce) read it right. He kind of had a read-type option on that play and he got the DB (defensive back) to go outside. He (Broncos CB Ja’Quan McMillian) slips a little bit, and then Trav just kind of curls it in there.” said Mahomes. “I gave him the ball, and that was kind of my first read – I had a couple of other options there, but when your first read’s open, man, you just fire it to him.”

Kelce recorded eight receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown in the Chiefs’ Week 10 win over the Denver Broncos. He has 95 career touchdown receptions, including the postseason. The multiple-time All-Pro passed Jimmy Graham for the fourth-most touchdown receptions by a tight end in NFL history, including the postseason. He trails only Antonio Gates, Gonzalez, and Rob Gronkowski.

The Chiefs star also has 60 receptions this season. It is the sixth player all-time with at least 60 receptions in 11 consecutive seasons, joining Gonzalez, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten, Jerry Rice, and Derrick Mason.

The Chiefs’ Leo Chenal finally had the courage to ask Travis Kelce for his jersey after game-saving FG block

He wanted to earn it first.

It hasn’t always been pretty this season, but the Kansas City Chiefs just find ways to win out of nowhere. That couldn’t have been more true during Sunday’s Week 10 game against the Broncos.

The win was so improbable — the Broncos looking at a 35-yard field goal with one second to go — that it gave the unlikely hero the courage to do something he’s wanted to do since 2022 … ask for Travis Kelce’s jersey.

Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal bulldozed through the Broncos’ kick protection and got his hand on the 35-yard attempt to preserve Kansas City’s perfect record. After the game, he broke down the team huddle for the first time in his NFL career. And then, he went up to the future Hall of Fame tight end.

The Athletic described what happened:

Once coach Reid finished his postgame remarks, he let Chenal break down the team’s final huddle, a first-time moment in his career. A few minutes later, before his postgame shower, Chenal asked Kelce for something he’s wanted since his rookie season.

Just before Chenal left the locker room, Kelce, still shirtless, gave his teammate the memento he wanted: his red, game-worn No. 87 jersey with his signature and a short message to Chenal written in black Sharpie on the white No. 7.

“I’ve been waiting for the right time,” Chenal said, smiling. “I felt I earned it.

Oh, he definitely earned it.

What we know about NFL ref meeting with Taylor Swift before Broncos-Chiefs game

A referee “briefly met with Taylor Swift” before the Broncos-Chiefs game on Sunday, according to KSNT 27 Sports.

During the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, NFL aggregation accounts on Twitter/X started sharing a story that essentially said, “NFL referee Sarah Thomas met with Taylor Swift before the game and FaceTimed her family during the meeting.”

If true, that’s not a good look because Swift, of course, is dating Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce, and Thomas was working the Broncos-Chiefs game on Sunday. The story might have been a bit exaggerated, though.

First, note that NFL officials are commonly all lumped into the “referee” category even though there’s technically only one “referee” on the crew, the lead official. Technically, Thomas is a “down judge,” but colloquially, fans dub them all referees.

Second, the accounts all linked back to KSNT 27 News. That’s a legitimate news station in Northeast Kansas, but they did not write a story on Swift’s exchange with Thomas. All the hoopla linked back to one tweet from Landon Reinhardt, who works for the station.

“Sarah Thomas, the down judge (ref) for today’s Chiefs/Broncos game, briefly met with Taylor Swift before the game,” Reinhardt tweeted on Sunday. “She was on FaceTime with family and I heard her say, ‘Did you get that screenshot?'”

While perhaps not the best look (especially when the Chiefs continue to get questionable calls), that exchange seems pretty innocent. It could have been as simple as Thomas being on the phone with her family in the stadium before the game and Swift happening to walk by. It’s not unusual to say hello to a celebrity, even when you’re an NFL official.

The ordeal seems to be overblown, but Broncos Wire has asked the NFL if they have a comment on the meeting. We are waiting for a response.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes reflects on walk-off victory over the Broncos: ‘You live for these moments’

Kansas City #Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes reflects on walk-off victory over the Denver #Broncos: ‘You live for these moments’ | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a front-row seat to one of the most extraordinary finishes in the league this season as his team pulled out the thrilling victory on Sunday. After the game, he shared his thoughts on the dramatic moment with reporters, revealing his mindset during the tense process.

“I was – I think more than anything I was just sick that last drive because I missed that touchdown throw that would’ve given us the chance to make it where they (the Broncos) had to score a touchdown – put our defense in a bad situation,” said Mahomes. “I thought our defense stepped up in that second half and did a great job. I was just happy. I was happy that we ended with that block, and Leo (Chenal) got through there. It was just joy after that.”

Mahomes had led the Chiefs to a go-ahead field goal on the drive before Denver got the ball into field goal range for the game-winning attempt. He missed Travis Kelce in the back of the endzone, which could have mitigated the stressful ending everyone on the sideline was experiencing.

“Yeah, I mean, you definitely are (worried) because it’s just a low percentage for a block, but if anyone’s going to do it,” said Mahomes. “I mean (Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator Dave) Toub and his team’s going to have a designed rush or designed way to getting a hand on it, so it was – obviously, you’re worried because it’s out of your control but at the same time I trust my teammates that they’re going to go out there and make a play.”

Mahomes was jumping for joy after the kick was blocked, filled with so much adrenaline that he didn’t show any pain from the sore ankle he’s been dealing with over the last few weeks.

“It’s awesome, man. You live for these moments. When you grow up playing football, you live for the walk-off, whatever it is.” said Mahomes. “It’s special when you build (with) these guys for so long, and you’ve built this chemistry with them, and guys get to make that play. It’s something that I’m sure Leo (Chenal) will have for the rest of his life. I’m just glad that we all get to experience it together.”

The Chiefs return to action next Sunday with another test on the road against the Buffalo Bills, who are entering the game 8-2 leading the AFC East.

‘Stay back, PLEASE.’ Taylor Swift sweetly corrects a security guard at Chiefs game arrival

Don’t forget the magic word.

Taylor Swift returned to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon as the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Denver Broncos. It was a wildly close affair, with the Chiefs remaining undefeated thanks to a blocked field goal as time expired.

It was the fifth game of the season for the 14-time Grammy winner, and she’s seemingly getting used to the process of arriving at the stadium. This weekend, after being dropped off by a golf cart, the security team was trying to clear some space.

As one of the guys barked for photographers and nearby people to stay back, the singer sweetly offered a correction. “Stay back, please” Swift said with a smile.

Chariah Gordon’s photo of ‘Auntie Tay’ Taylor Swift and baby is adorable

This is just so much cuteness in one picture.

Taylor Swift made it to her fifth NFL game of the season on Sunday afternoon as Kansas City hosted Denver with the hopes of remaining undefeated. Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce had a touchdown in the intensely dramatic game that saw the Chiefs hold on for the win thanks to a blocked field goal as time expired.

Swift becoming a mainstay at Chiefs games has meant that the pop singer has formed relationships with the other wives and girlfriends, especially Mecole Hardman’s fiancé, Chariah Gordon. The duo frequently films fun postgame recaps together, and Gordon is known to post adorable pictures from the game with the 14-time Grammy winner.

Taylor Swift’s security alertedly stopped photographers from taking invasive photos before Chiefs-Broncos

Security team was all over it.

With Taylor Swift enjoying a brief break before the Eras Tour concludes with its Canadian leg, the 14-time Grammy winner was back at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday to watch the Chiefs take on the Broncos. But from the moment Swift arrived at the stadium, we could see just how much thought and preparation goes into protecting Swift — even during a short walk from a golf cart to elevator.

See, Swift’s outfit for the Week 10 appearance included a plaid red combo with a skirt. As Swift was making her walk down to the elevators, her security team took the lead to tell surrounding photographers to stand up. The guards repeated that command several times as Swift herself slowed her walk until all the photographers were standing.

They were doing that to protect Swift from invasive photos.

Given the slope down that tunnel, the security team acted fast to make sure photographers couldn’t take photos up Swift’s skirt. And while these are credentialed photographers and not paparazzi, Swift’s team was not going to let any invasive photos get taken there — even unintentionally.

It goes to show just how thorough her security is during these games and why we may only see Swift at Chiefs home games during the regular season. Her security knows Arrowhead Stadium so well that they are able to react quickly for a specific situation like that.

Chiefs vs. Broncos: Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce combine for touchdown

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce combined for a touchdown against the #Broncos in Week 10.

The Kansas City Chiefs face a four-point deficit against the Denver Broncos heading into halftime at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 10.

Kansas City’s offense struggled to find its footing early in the first half but managed to get in gear in the second quarter to cut into Denver’s lead.

After being held to just three points at the two-minute warning, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid decided to get aggressive near the Broncos’ goal line and kept his offense on the field on fourth down in an attempt to score a touchdown.

Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce answered Reid’s call, and combined for a six-point score that got Kansas City back in the game:

Expect Reid to continue calling an aggressive game in the second half as the Chiefs look to keep their perfect season alive heading into Week 11.

If Mahomes and Kelce can continue linking up late in this game, Kansas City may be able to complete yet another comeback to earn its ninth win.

Taylor Swift arrived at Arrowhead Stadium in chic red plaid combo for Broncos-Chiefs

The 14-time Grammy nominee arrived in style for Sunday’s clash with the Broncos.

With only nine more shows of the Eras Tour remaining across two Canadian cities, Taylor Swift has been able to make it to more Chiefs games. The 14-time Grammy winner — who is up for six more at the 2025 awards ceremony — made the trip on Sunday afternoon to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce as they welcome the Denver Broncos.

The Chiefs are the lone undefeated team remaining in the NFL this season, something Bo Nix and the Broncos will hope to change.

For the matchup, Swift wore a very chic red plaid jacket and skirt combo with a black corset top and tall black leather boots.

Will Taylor Swift be at Travis Kelce’s game for Chiefs-Broncos?

Will Taylor Swift be there for the Week 10 game?

It’s that time again.

Travis Kelce is back to playing NFL games in 2024, and Taylor Swift has had some time when she could once again come to cheer him on at Kansas City Chiefs games. She was there for the Week 1 win and attended the Week 2 victory. She wasn’t there for the Week 3 game in Atlanta or Week 4 in L.A., but she showed up to Week 5 against the Saints and was there for the Week 9 game against the Buccaneers.

So the question is: will she be there for the Week 10 matchup on Monday night between the Buccaneers and the Chiefs? According to our handy Taylor Swift calendar, and, well, what we know, the answer is: maybe?

She’s definitely not on tour again until later in the week. Plus, it’s a home game, which helps.

We’ll see!
