Seahawks battling injuries at running back spot entering Week 14

The Seattle Seahawks are banged up at the running back position heading into the Week 14 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

The Seattle Seahawks are looking pretty decent in the injury department, save for the running backs, who have been hit pretty hard over the last week.

Seattle faced off against the Rams with one back down already – Travis Homer – who was inactive on game day. Homer was listed on the injury report with a knee and an undisclosed illness.

Coach Pete Carroll was able to provide some updated information during his Wednesday press conference.

“Homer looked good today in the walkthrough, he’s going to practice today,” Carroll told reporters. “That’s a real positive for us.”

However, Carroll confirmed that neither Kenneth Walker III or DeeJay Dallas would be able to participate to start the week. Both suffered ankle injuries in Los Angeles.

“He’s rehabbing all day long, every day, doing everything he can do to get right,” Carroll said of Walker, who’s dealing with an ankle jam. Carroll said he didn’t know yet if Walker would be ready by the Panthers matchup this Sunday.

Dallas, on the other hand, has a shot to return. “If you talk to him he does,” Carroll said. “He was kind of bouncing around today. He didn’t take any snaps in walkthrough, but his attitude is exactly what you want.

“He’s determined to get back, so we’ll see what happens.”

Pete Carroll details Seahawks injuries heading into Week 4

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates heading into the practice week ahead of facing the Lions.

The Seattle Seahawks lost one player to the injured reserve this week, when running back Travis Homer was placed on the IR due to a hit to the ribs last Sunday. Coach Pete Carroll was asked about his status and those of the rest of the banged-up players during his Wednesday press conference.

“It’s a really uncomfortable injury,” Carroll said of Homer. “He’ll get better fast in a couple of weeks from now and we’ll just see if he can stand it. He’s as tough as you can get. If anybody can do it, he’ll do it.”

Linebacker Alton Robinson (knee) is eligible to return from the IR after Week 4, although it might take some more time before he is activated. “We’d like to see that,” Carroll told reporters. “He’s got to come back and show it. He’s been working to stay in shape and all of that. It may take a couple weeks to get him back in there.”

In better news, Carroll expects defensive end, Shelby Harris (glute), to make his return in time to face the Lions. “He’s back,” Carroll confirmed. “Because of the way things fell, he won’t go today. But we’re testing him out with the trainers today. I talked to him a little while ago, he’s anxious to play this week. He thinks he can do it, but he’s got to show.”

The latest injury report will be released later Thursday afternoon.

Seahawks place RB Travis Homer on IR, sign CB Xavier Crawford

The Seattle Seahawks placed running back Travis Homer on the injured reserve and signed cornerback Xavier Crawford to the 53-man roster.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves on Wednesday morning, namely the placement of running back Travis Homer on the injured reserve.

Homer logged only one carry on Sunday against the Falcons, and it was during that play that he sustained a rib injury. The running back took a helmet to the chest and was unable to finish the game.

On Monday, coach Pete Carroll had this to say about Homer’s injury:

He’s really sore, he got hurt. He had a significant, I don’t know if they call it bruised ribs, a little bit of cartilage dipped in there. I don’t know how far it’s going to take him or not, but I know he’s really uncomfortable today.

Yeah he got hit on one side, but it actually hurt him on the other side which is really unusual in my experience which is very limited. He got banged pretty good.

Carroll will likely have more information when he speaks to reporters ahead of practice, but for now, Homer has been placed on the IR and will have to miss at least four games.

To fill the empty spot on the 53-man roster, cornerback Xavier Crawford was signed off the practice squad. Running back Godwin Igwebuike and fullback Cullen Gillaspia were added to the practice squad, bringing more depth to the backfield.
