Tyrann Mathieu discusses Marshon Lattimore returning to play the Saints

Tyrann Mathieu discussed the return of Marshon Lattimore to the Caesars Superdome this week as the Saints take on the Commanders in Week 15:

Tyrann Mathieu was one of the prominent New Orleans Saints players with a media appearance on Wednesday, and during this, he discussed a few topics, with one of them being the return of Marshon Lattimore with the Washington Commanders to the Caesars Superdome this week. Lattimore was traded prior to the Saints’ second matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, and while he has not seen the field as of yet post-trade, he is likely to make his debut against the Saints in Week 15.

Regarding this return, Mathieu said: “Yeah I’m excited man, I saw he was a full participant, y’know so, I’m pretty sure he gonna be ready for this one, no doubt about it.”

Ultimately Mathieu and Lattimore only ended up playing together for two and a half seasons or so, but they both have been integral parts of the Saints’ secondary, and were definitely appreciated by fans in their time here. Now Lattimore will have the chance to go back up against his former team in his former home stadium, with a new 8-5 team that looks to be on the up-and-up behind former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.

All 37 players released, waived, and traded by the Chiefs on Tuesday

Check out every (former) #Chiefs player who was released, waived, or traded by Kansas City on Tuesday.

The Kansas City Chiefs had to part ways with many talented players yesterday, and there were plenty of surprises when cuts were announced throughout the morning and afternoon.

Players like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, L’Jarius Sneed and Isiah Pacheco were all, obviously, unaffected by the onslaught of releases, but others who weren’t so established on Kansas City’s roster weren’t. While late-August cuts are nothing new, fans saw some of their favorite Chiefs exposed to the NFL waiver system, which may mean that they find a new home this week.

With the 2023 season kickoff set to take place on August 7, Kansas City had to make some tough decisions that are sure to play a role in the team’s hopes of championship defense during their coming campaign.

Take a look at the vested veterans, promising prospects, and NFL journeymen who saw their time with the Chiefs come to an unceremonious end on Tuesday:

Report: Packers, Aaron Rodgers know trade is ‘very real scenario’ this offseason

From ESPN’s Adam Schefter: “There is a real possibility that at some point this offseason Aaron Rodgers is going to be traded.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday morning that the Green Bay Packers trading away quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a “real possibility” and both the team and player understand the relationship could be coming to an end via trade this offseason.

Schefter’s report came on ESPN’s “Postseason NFL Countdown” program.

From Schefter: “This will be the third straight offseason in which Aaron Rodgers’ future is the subject of much speculation. But make no mistake, both sides are fully aware that a trade is a very real scenario this offseason for Aaron Rodgers. The Packers are expected to move on from certain players, which Aaron Rodgers probably will not like. The issue here would be the $110 million left on his contract, and which team could afford it. But there is a real possibility that at some point this offseason Aaron Rodgers is going to be traded.”

Last June, Rodgers – after signing a record-breaking contract – said he would “definitely” retire with the Packers. Just this week, Rodgers – after finishing a disappointing 8-9 season – re-opened the door to playing elsewhere in 2023.

Rodgers turns 40 years old in December and is coming off one of his worst statistical seasons as the Packers starting quarterback. Behind him, 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love will be entering his fourth season, and the team believes he’s ready to play right now.

A trade would become possible if Rodgers wants to play in 2023 and doesn’t believe he can win a title or play at a high level with the Packers, or the team decides to move on from the future Hall of Famer and transition to Love, who played well in sporadic opportunities during the 2022 season.

All three options for Rodgers appear to be on the table as real possibilities: retirement, returning to the Packers or playing elsewhere.

Rodgers Watch continues.

Calvin Ridley traded to Jacksonville Jaguars in a shocking move

Jacksonville Jaguars land Calvin Ridley in exchange for draft compensation

The Atlanta Falcons have shockingly traded star wide receiver [autotag]Calvin Ridley[/autotag] to the Jacksonville Jaguars right before the NFL trade deadline in exchange for draft compensation.

Ridley was a standout at the collegiate level for the Alabama Crimson Tide where he was a first-team All-SEC receiver in 2017 as well as a two-time national champion. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Ridley appeared in 44 games and posted 224 catches for 2,781 yards and 19 touchdowns.

After a successful college career, Ridley was selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft by the Falcons with the No. 26 overall selection. Ridley started 5 games as a rookie and continued to see his production grow from there.

In 2020, Ridley had his most impactful season to date with 90 catches for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns in 15 games. However, only five games into his 2021 season he decided to take the year off due to mental health reasons. This was the last time we saw Ridley in action

On March 7, 2022, Ridley was suspended for the entirety of the 2022 NFL season after he was found to be gambling on games while injured in 2021. So the Jaguars are making an investment in next season knowing Ridley will not available until 2023.

Could the Dallas Cowboys soon move on from Amari Cooper?

Former Alabama WR Amari Cooper is under contract with the Dallas Cowboys until 2024, but due to money constraints, he could be gone.

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to a monster deal with quarterback Dak Prescott. However, the move could have cost them more than a bunch of money, they may need to depart from some of their biggest offensive playmakers.

Amari Cooper, who was originally drafted to the then-Oakland Raiders, was traded to the Cowboys in 2018.

The former Alabama wide receiver signed a large contract with Dallas, which could keep him with the organization through 2024. However, there is a potential out for the Cowboys after the 2021 season.

ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio claims that Cooper and star running back Ezekiel Elliott could either be on the trading block or released.

“Although some are speculating that running back Ezekiel Elliott or receiver Amari Cooper could be traded soon due to Dak’s deal, the more likely outcome will be at least one more season with Cooper and Elliott before either or both are traded or released.

Last year, Cooper signed a five-year, $100 million contract that is, as a practical matter, a two-year, $40 million deal. After 2021, the Cowboys can walk away with no guaranteed money remaining and only a $6 million cap charge.”

In a weird 2020 season with a pandemic and an injured starting quarterback, Cooper still managed to record over 1,000 receiving yards.

There’s no telling what Dallas may do after the 2021 season, but Florio believes that Cooper could rework his contract if he wants to stay with the team.
