TreVonte’ Citizen drops his top eight schools as decision day draws near

Citizen reveals his top eight schools.

As the chase for Lake Charles running back TreVonte’ Citizen continues, he produced his list for the top eight schools in his recruitment. As expected the LSU Tigers are joined by the Auburn Tigers and Florida Gators. Joining the mix are Grambling, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, and USC.

At this point in the process, it feels like a three-horse race between the three SEC schools for his commitment. Citizen decommitted from LSU in late November but he has kept the Tigers among his top schools. The Gators are making a strong push to land yet another LSU target after swiping Trevor Etienne earlier this month.

This likely will go all the way up to the February signing day before we get a decision from the top 10 rated running back. Frank Wilson and the Tigers can’t slow down just yet with not having a running back commit in the 2022 recruiting class.

The Tigers lost one running back from the current roster when Ty Davis-Price declared for the NFL draft. They will get a five-star signee from the 2019 class back with John Emery Jr for the 2022 season. There are options in the transfer portal should Brian Kelly fail to seal the deal with Citizen, such as Penn State running back Noah Cain. He recently put his name in the portal.

Buckle up because this ride could get bumpy as we head down the stretch ahead of the February signing period.

Priority target, four-star edge Derrick Brown puts Texas in top eight

Derrick Brown is one of the most important prospects on Texas’ board heading into the summer. He released his top eight schools Wednesday.

Outside of quarterback, edge rushers are the most important position in football. Steve Sarkisian had to bring a few names in to help Texas get to the quarterback this season, but those temporary patches could be gone come 2022.

That’s why Derrick Brown is one of the most important prospects on Texas’ board heading into the summer. The four-star edge out of Texarkana is one of the best pass rushers in the state.

Early Wednesday morning, Brown released his top eight schools. Texas was joined by Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, TCU and Texas Tech.

Brown was on campus over the weekend for an official visit. He said Austin “felt like home” and will “definitely be back.” Texas Tech and Baylor are next on his visit list this summer, while Oklahoma is expected to host him the weekend of its Nebraska matchup.

Five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart releases top eight school

Evan Stewart is one of the most important prospects left on UT’s board. He released his top eight schools on Saturday, including Texas A&M.

Evan Stewart is one of the most important prospects left on Texas’ board. The five-star wide receiver was once a part of the 2022 class but decommitted in March.

The silky pass catcher will bring a dynamic to the Longhorns’ wide receiver room that Steve Sarkisian desperately needs. His speed and ability in the open field prove to be better than anybody in the country.

With the NCAA dead period more than likely being lifted by the summer, Stewart cited he wanted to take visits before making his decision. Texas will be getting an official visit from June 11-June 13.

After his decommitment, Stewart reassessed and released his top eight schools on Saturday. Along with Texas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC are still in contention for Stewart.

Stewart was recently named the No. 1 wide receiver in the updated ESPN300 rankings. Before his commitment to Texas, Alabama and Oregon were seen as the biggest players in the recruitment.

Seeing Texas A&M back in the contention brings another classic showdown between the old rivals. The Aggies will get an official visit from Stewart two weeks after the Longhorns.

Florida is the only other announced official visit from the five-star, getting one from June 4-June 6.

Four-star wide receiver Chris Marshall leaves Texas out of top eight schools

Chris Marshall recently released his eight schools, keeping Texas on the outside. Texas A&M was the only in-state school to make the cut.

Wide receiver spots in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class are going to be occupied by some of the best prospects in the country. Four-star Armani Winfield locked in his spot at halftime of the national championship, while four-star Evan Stewart decommited after less than a month.

Before looking out of the state, Steve Sarkisian and Andre Coleman were determined to grab the best pass catchers from Texas. Fort Bend Marshall’s Chris Marshall was thought to be a top priority after his amazing junior season. However, the four-star recently released a top eight schools list and the Longhorns were left out.

Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Jackson State, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, and USC are the only schools Marshall is still considering. Seeing only one in-state school is surprising for a top 35 in-state player.

Marshall’s first season of ever playing football was his junior year. He finished with 1,009 yards and 18 touchdowns on 45 receptions. Basketball had been the four-star’s main focus and will play into his college choice.

On the 247Sports composite, Marshall ranks as the No. 185 player and No. 23 wide receiver in the country. Within the state of Texas, he is the No. 31 overall prospect.

Seeing Sarkisian strike out on one of his top offensive targets seem strange, even just over three months into his tenure. Losing out on Marshall will likely force Texas to move out of the state to land an elite wide receiver. Kevin Coleman, Shazz Preston, and C.J. Williams will rise up the board with Marshall gone.
