Steelers to host elite IOL Troy Fautanu for predraft visit

Troy Fautanu is one of the top interior offensive linemen in the 2024 NFL draft.

According to Bleacher Report NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting former Washington offensive lineman Troy Fautanu for a Top 30 visit ahead of the 2024 NFL draft.

The Steelers are currently looking for a starting center and possibly offensive tackle and Fautanu has the athletic potential to be either one. Truly one of the most versatile linemen in this draft along with Duke’s Graham Barton, who has the skills to start at any spot on the offensive line and play there at a high level from Day One.

The Steelers released last year’s starting center, Mason Cole as a cost-cutting measure at the start of free agency. This was also due to Cole’s struggles last season. Pittsburgh is also scouting offensive tackles to allow Broderick Jones to move to the left and feel confident in his replacement. Pittsburgh released Chuks Okorafor leaving the Steelers thin at offensive tackle.

Caleb Williams met with Bears front office and current players in Chicago

According to Marc “Silvy” Silverman of ESPN 1000, Caleb Williams dined with the Bears on Tuesday night, which included some current players.

Caleb Williams was in town last night as part of his top 30 visit with the Chicago Bears and met with more than just the front office.

According to Marc “Silvy” Silverman of ESPN 1000’s Waddle & Silvy show, Williams was in town on Tuesday evening and had dinner with the Bears brass—including some current players.

During the NFL owners meetings last week, the Bears indicated Williams would be coming in sometime this week for his official visit. The twist, however, is that he was meeting with and getting to know current players during this dinner. “They had him not sit with the Bears executives, who were there, by the way,” Silvy said. “But he sat and ate with current players on the current Bears roster.” It is not known which current players were in attendance.

Prospects dining with front office members during the pre-draft cycle is nothing new and is normally part of the process for teams to get to know them, but hearing that Williams was with current Bears players is notable. It’s yet another indication that Williams will be the quarterback chosen by the Bears at No. 1 overall when the draft takes place in a few weeks, barring a major upset.

Williams isn’t the only high-profile prospect coming to town this week, however. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze will be visiting Halas Hall on Thursday for his top 30 interview. Odunze is one of the top receivers in the draft and is a popular target for the Bears to select with their second first-round selection at No. 9 overall.

Packers to host top 30 pre-draft visit with Nebraska DB Omar Brown

The Packers will host Nebraska defensive back Omar Brown on a top 30 visit ahead of the 2024 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers will host Nebraska defensive back Omar Brown on an official top 30 visit ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, per Darren Wolfson of KSTP-TV 5 in Minneapolis.

Teams are allowed to host up to 30 prospects on visits ahead of the draft. Packers Wire is tracking all the reported visits here.

Brown, a Minneapolis native, spent three seasons at Northern Iowa before transferring to Nebraska. He was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection while at Northern Iowa and a one-time All-Big Ten selection at Nebraska.

Brown has experience playing cornerback, safety and slot corner.

Over 52 career games and 37 starts, Brown produced 192 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, nine interceptions and 25 pass breakups.

In 2023, Brown allowed 35 catches on 59 targets and didn’t give up a touchdown pass in coverage, per PFF. He spent most of his time in the slot for Nebraska last season.

Brown earned strong grades as both a perimeter cornerback at Northern Iowa in 2021 and as a slot corner for Nebraska in 2023.

Brown (6-0, 205) wasn’t invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, but he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds, per Eric Galko of the East-West Shrine Bowl. He also had a 1.53-second 10-yard split and 6.97-second three-cone drill time.

Brown is the No. 213 overall prospect on PFF’s big board.

The Packers have five picks on Day 3 of the 2024 NFL draft and could use one on a developmental safety prospect like Brown.

Jets to host USC WR Brenden Rice on top 30 pre-draft visit

The New York Jets will reportedly host USC wide receiver Brenden Rice on an official top 30 visit. Here is what you need to know.

The New York Jets will reportedly have USC wide receiver Brenden Rice in for an official top-30 visit, according to Tony Pauline.

As part of the pre-draft process, every team is allotted 30 official visits, where prospects come to the team facility for one-on-one meetings.

USC held its Pro-Day on Wednesday, where, according to Pauline, Rice had a “good day” catching passes from Caleb Williams. Rice ran a three-cone of 6.95 seconds and caught the ball “well.” Pauline added that Rice has put together a good pre-draft process, which for him, began at the Senior Bowl.

Rice, the son of Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, measured in at 6-2 at the NFL Combine and weighed 208 pounds. There, he ran a 4.5 second 40 yard dash and posted a Relative Athletic Score of 7.92 out of 10–although that figure does not take into account any of his Pro-Day numbers.

After beginning his college career at Colorado, Rice spent the last two seasons at USC. During that span, he caught 84 of his 132 targets (64 percent) at an impressive 16.7 yards per catch, while totaling 1,401 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The most recent 2023 season was Rice’s most productive with him hauling in 791 yards at almost 18 yards per catch with 12 scores. Just about all of Rice’s career snaps have come lined up on the boundary.

For more on Rice’s game, here is what NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft scouting report:

“The bloodlines don’t get much better than Jerry Rice, so Brenden Rice might have a head start on the rest of the field. He’s big and plays a physical brand of football when cornerbacks want to fight over space. He lacks sudden feet, so beating press cleanly and separating on short routes could be challenging as a pro.

“Rice possesses good build-up speed to create deep-ball opportunities once his ball skills are added to the equation. Rice catches with quick, strong hands and good extension to help with frequent contested catches. There are some limitations at play, but he has enough checkmarks to project as an early backup with some upward mobility.”

If the Jets were to select Rice in the draft, this would be more of a developmental selection for them, in part because of the reasons that Zierlein mentioned.

On top of that, in also having Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, and a potential early round pick at receiver on the roster, coupled with Allen Lazard and Xavier Gipson, there might not be a ton of snaps available if everyone remains healthy.

However, looking ahead to 2025, Williams will be a free agent, and the Jets will be better situated from a salary cap perspective to get out of Lazard’s deal at that time, potentially providing Rice with more opportunities after a year of learning the offense and adjusting to the NFL.

Last offseason, defensive back Jarrick Bernard-Converse took an official visit with the Jets before Joe Douglas selected him in the sixth round.

Chiefs hosted Michigan WR Ronnie Bell on pre-draft visit

The #Chiefs had a Kansas City local who played receiver at Michigan in for a pre-draft visit, per report.

The Kansas City Chiefs recently hosted a local prospect on a pre-draft visit.

According to KPRC2’s Aaron Willson, the Chiefs are among three teams to have hosted Michigan WR Ronnie Bell on a visit along with the Detroit Lions and New England Patriots. Bell is also receiving interest from the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks through various pre-draft meetings or meals per Wilson.

The 23-year-old Bell is from Kansas City, Missouri and played high school football at Park Hill before heading to play at Michigan. The 6-foot and 193-pound receiver started 31 of 47 possible games in five seasons with the Wolverines, catching 145 passes for 2,269 yards and 9 touchdowns. He also played special teams, both coverage and as a return specialist, returning 13 punts for 150 yards and two kicks for 53 yards.

Bell’s only played six games in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the following year, he tore his ACL in the first game of the season. That’s likely one of the reasons the team wanted to bring Bell in for a visit is to get him examined by the training staff and medical staff. The good news about his injury and recovery is that 2022 was his best season yet with over 900 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns on the year. He played a fairly even split of his snaps last season out wide (213) and in the slot (150), which suggests he could do either/or in the NFL as well.

Right now, Bell’s draft stock is squarely on Day 3 with many believing he’ll be selected in the sixth or seventh round of the draft.

Chiefs hosted Oregon EDGE DJ Johnson on pre-draft visit

The #Chiefs have hosted an intriguing edge rusher prospect from the Oregon Ducks on a pre-draft visit.

We continue to learn of more prospects who’ve visited the Kansas City Chiefs at 1 Arrowhead Drive ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. The latest reported pre-draft visit is a player who the team already met with extensively at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

As first reported by The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler, the Chiefs have hosted Oregon edge rusher DJ Johnson on a pre-draft visit. Johnson had a formal visit with Kansas City at the combine, where he also posted an impressive workout. At 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Johnson Ran a 4.49s official 40-yard dash and 1.59s 10-yard split, which both ranked fourth among edge rushers at the event.

One downside with this prospect is that he’ll be 25 years old during his rookie season. Johnson started his career at Miami in 2017 before transferring to Oregon and sitting out in 2018. In 2019 he played defensive end before transitioning to play the tight end position. He essentially became a two-way player in 2020 and 2021. In his final collegiate season in 2022, he returned to play defense full-time, making an outsized impact for the Ducks. He led their defense with six sacks on the season along with the second-most pressures on the team with 28.

Johnson has some character concerns to work through during the pre-draft process. Most notably, he sucker-punched an Oregon State fan after the Ducks lost 38-34 back in November. That’s likely one of the reasons that the Chiefs are hosting Johnson on a visit – to get a better sense of how he’s matured since this incident and how he might fit into the team culture.

Ohio State QB CJ Stroud in Las Vegas on Top 30 visit with Raiders

CJ Stroud is in Vegas today visiting with the Raiders

Another top Draft QB is visiting Las Vegas. CJ Stroud is making a Top 30 visit to the Raiders facility, making for the fourth of four projected highly drafted quarterbacks from this draft to visit.

Last week the Raiders hosted Alabama’s Bryce Young, Florida’s Anthony Richardson, and Kentucky’s Will Levis.

Those three along with Stroud all figure to be selected in the top ten, if not the top five of this year’s Draft.

Currently the Raiders own the seventh overall pick. They would very much like one or more of these quarterback to be on the board for them when they make their pick. If, after doing all their research — including these prospect meetings, they get high on one of them and fear that QB won’t make it to seven, they could consider attempting to trade up to get him.

Stroud is in in the running for the number one overall pick. He finished last season strong, leading the Buckeyes to the National Championship game and going 23 of 34 for 348 yards and four touchdowns, very nearly taking down a tough Georgia team.

While known mostly for his arm and accuracy, Stroud showed some ability to move and improvise in that game which raised his stock.

The consensus has the Panthers taking either Stroud or Young with the top pick. Then it’s the Texans at number two overall who also need a quarterback. But if for whatever reason, neither the Panthers nor Texans take Stroud, trading up to third overall becomes all the more intriguing for teams like the Raiders.

Chiefs to host LSU OL Anthony Bradford on top-30 visit

The #Chiefs are set to host a player on a top-30 visit who they previously met with at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting a prospect on a top-30 visit who they met with formally at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, LSU interior offensive lineman Anthony Bradford is set to take a visit to Kansas City. This will come after he visits both the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers. The Chiefs also had a formal visit with Bradford at the combine, so there is at least an illusion of interest here.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 322 pounds, Bradford spent the majority of the 2022 college season playing right guard for LSU. He does also have experience playing the left tackle position, with 291 snaps at the position over the past two seasons. While most project him as an interior offensive lineman at the next level, he’s a prospect who could probably serve as a swing lineman for at least three spots (right guard, left guard and right tackle).

Bradford was a standout performer at the combine, posting the fourth-best 10-yard split (1.74s) among offensive linemen. His tape tends to show a player that wins with his size and power rather than finesse and quickness, but he’s shown in the pre-draft process that he might be a better athlete than many figured him to be.

If you’re unfamiliar with top-30 visits, these are opportunities for teams to host prospects at their facilities and get to know them better. They can undergo cognitive testing, have medical examinations, tour team facilities, and meet with coaches and front office staff.

Time is running out for the Chiefs to have players in town for these types of visits. Prospects can no longer be hosted by teams at their facilities after Wednesday, April 19.

Raiders host Alabama QB Bryce Young on Top 30 pre-draft visit

Bryce Young is the latest draft prospect to make a Top 30 visit to Las Vegas

It remains to be seen if the Raiders will have any of the top quarterbacks available to them at pick number seven or if they would even take whichever QB is still there. But they are making sure they are well prepared for that possibility.

Today they hosted the drafts consensus top QB Bryce Young on a Top 30 free agent visit according to NFL media’s Ian Rapoport.

This is the second reported QB in this draft to make a Top 30 visit to Las Vegas. The first was Kentucky’s Will Levis on Monday. They will also host Florida’s Anthony Richardson on Friday.

That means the last remaining highly rated draft prospect quarterbacks yet to make a Top 30 visit to Las Vegas are Ohio State’s CJ Stroud and Tennesee’s Hendon Hooker. Expect their visits to occur in short order.

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels has made no secret that he intends on taking a long look at the quarterbacks in this draft in the hopes of landing one. The team signed Jimmy Garoppolo but would like to add a rookie QB either to compete for the starting job or to sit behind Garoppolo until he’s ready to step into a starting role.

Oklahoma OT Anton Harrison visiting Chiefs

The #Chiefs are hosting one of the top offensive tackle prospects in the 2023 NFL draft on a top-30 visit.

The Kansas City Chiefs have just 13 more days during which they can have prospects in town for pre-draft visits and they’re wasting no time.

The latest prospect to stop in and check out the team facilities at 1 Arrowhead Drive is the starting left tackle for the Oklahoma Sooners. NFL podcaster Billy Marshall snapped a screenshot from Anton Harrison’s Instagram story, showing him in the Chiefs’ locker room at their training facility (not Arrowhead Stadium). The screengrab suggests that he’s with the team today on an official top-30 visit.

Check it out:

This is the first known interest in Harrison as there were no reports that he met with the team at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine. He was, however, sent to Kansas City often in mock drafts after they opted away from the franchise tag with Orlando Brown Jr. and prior to free agency.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds with 34 1/8-inch arms, Harrison boasts tremendous length and athleticism at the tackle position. He tied for the second-best 40-yard dash time among tackles at the combine with a 4.98s run. That athleticism often shows up on his tape when he’s asked to pull or make blocks at the second level.

During his career at Oklahoma, Harrison allowed just 33 pressures on slightly over 1,000 career pass-blocking snaps. He’s no slouch in the run game either, with a nasty streak that would fit in well alongside Trey Smith and Harrison’s former Sooner teammate Creed Humphrey.

Remember, these visits are merely part of the pre-draft fact-finding mission. This doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll wind up in Kansas City, but it certainly shows that he’s on their radar and someone that the team wanted to get to know more about prior to the draft.
