Giants activate Azeez Ojulari, Tony Jefferson off of IR

The New York Giants made a series of roster moves ahead of their Week 13 game, including the activation of LB Azeez Ojulari.

The New York Giants made a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 13 game against the Washington Commanders, including the official activation of edge rusher Azeez Ojulari.

In addition to Ojulari, safety Tony Jefferson was also activated off of injured reserve and returned to the 53-man roster. Both are expected to play significant roles on Sunday.

In a separate move, the Giants signed tight end Nick Vannett from their practice squad to the active roster. Tight end Tanner Hudson was waived in a corresponding transaction.

Finally, defensive tackle Vernon Butler and cornerback Zyon Gilbert were elevated from the practice squad.

Once again, safety/linebacker Landon Collins was passed over and will not play against his former team.

Offensive lineman Ben Bredeson remains on IR.

Giants designate 3 to return from injured reserve

The New York Giants have designated three players to return from injured reserve, including linebacker Azeez Ojulari.

As the New York Giants enter the most important stretch of their season, it would appear as if they are finally getting some reinforcements back.

On Monday, the Giants designated linebacker Azeez Ojulari, offensive lineman Ben Bredeson and safety Tony Jefferson to return from injured reserve.

Ojulari, who set a Giants rookie record with 8.0 sacks last year, hasn’t played since Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. He suffered a calf injury during that game and landed on IR nearly three weeks later.

Bredeson started the first seven games of the season at left guard, but went down with a knee injury during a Week 7 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his absence, the Giants have shuffled several players at the position and have lacked an overall consistency.

Jefferson was signed to the Giants’ practice squad in early September and appeared in three games before suffering a foot injury and landing on IR in mid-October.

All three players are expected to start upon their return.

Giants place Tony Jefferson on IR, elevate two from practice squad

The New York Giants have elevated two practice squad players and placed veteran DB Tony Jefferson (foot) on injured reserve.

The New York Giants have placed veteran defensive back Tony Jefferson on injured reserve with a foot injury. He will now have to miss the team’s next four games.

Jefferson joined the Giants in September after turning down several other teams in order to work with Wink Martindale. He appeared in three games this season and recorded five tackles (four solo).

With Jefferson going on IR and rookie D.J. Davidson also lost for the season with a torn ACL, the Giants now have two open spots on their 53-man roster.

Meanwhile, the team also elevated two practice squad players on Saturday but Landon Collins was not among them.

Defensive lineman Ryder Anderson and and wide receiver Marcus Johnson were the Week 6 elevations. For Anderson, it’s the first time this season he will be active on gameday.

However, for Johnson, this is the third and final time he can be elevated. The Giants will need to sign him to the 53-man roster in order for him to play again this year.

Both Anderson and Johnson will revert back to the practice squad following Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Giants’ Kadarius Toney among 5 ruled out vs. Ravens

The New York Giants have ruled five players out (and one doubtful) against the Baltimore Ravens, including WR Kadarius Toney.

The New York Giants were hoping to get several injured players back in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens, and it looks like they will. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be as many as they had desired.

Several of the walking wounded did return to practice this week and are expected to play. But on the other side of the spectrum, there were new injuries that cropped up and other players who will sit this one out.

Full injury reports for both the Giants and Ravens can be found below:

Giants injury report: Kadarius Toney, Kenny Golladay remain sidelined

New York Giants wide receivers Kadarius Toney and Kenny Golladay continue missing practice, while QB Tyrod Taylor returned on Thursday.

The New York Giants practiced indoors on Thursday due to the inclement weather in East Rutherford, and were once again saddled with a lengthy injury list.

On the positive end of the spectrum, quarterback Tyrod Taylor cleared concussion protocol and rejoined his teammates. And despite being limited for the second consecutive day, head coach Brian Daboll said he had no concerns about running back Saquon Barkley handling a full workload in Week 6.

Unfortunately for the Giants, not all news was good news. Wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney continue to be sidelined by injury, and were joined by tight end Tanner Hudson.

The Giants’ Thursday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: WR Kenny Golladay (knee), CB Cor’Dale Flott (calf), WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring), DB Tony Jefferson (foot), DB Jason Pinnock (ankle), TE Tanner Hudson (illness), DL Jihad Ward (not injury related)

Limited participant: WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), DL Leonard Williams (knee), LB Azeez Ojulari (calf), CB Adoree’ Jackson (knee/neck), RB Saquon Barkley (shoulder), CB Darnay Holmes (quad), TE Chris Myarick (ankle)

Giants injury report: Kadarius Toney, Kenny Golladay don’t practice

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday but remain without wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday following their stunning victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 5.

However, they were noticeably shorthanded as the injury list continues to grow. Saquon Barkley, Adoree’ Jackson and Tony Jefferson were among the new additions, but all participated on at least a limited basis.

The same could not be said for wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney, who remain sidelined with their respective injuries.

The Giants’ Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: WR Kenny Golladay (knee), CB Cor’Dale Flott (calf), WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring), P Jamie Gillan (not injury related), DB Tony Jefferson (foot), DB Jason Pinnock (ankle)

Limited participant: WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), DL Leonard Williams (knee), QB Tyrod Taylor (concussion), LB Azeez Ojulari (calf), CB Adoree’ Jackson (knee/neck), RB Saquon Barkley (shoulder), CB Darnay Holmes (quad), TE Chris Myarick (ankle)

Giants sign Tony Jefferson to 53-man roster, elevate two

The New York Giants have signed DB Tony Jefferson to the 53-man roster and elevated two, including QB Davis Webb, for a Week 5 game.

The New York Giants have signed defensive back Tony Jefferson to their active roster from the practice squad. It brings the team’s roster back up to 53 men after cornerback Aaron Robinson was placed on injured reserve earlier this week.

Jefferson had been elevated in each of the team’s first two games this season, recording one tackle.

The Giants also elevated two practice squad players — quarterback Davis Webb and wide receiver Marcus Johnson — ahead of their Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers.

With Tyrod Taylor (concussion) out, Webb will serve as the backup to Daniel Jones.

“He’s been in the offense for a long time,” head coach Brian Daboll said of Webb this week. “So, each week, even though he’s on the practice squad, he prepares. That’s what we ask all our guys to do, whether it’s a practice squad running back, prepare like you’re going to have an opportunity to play, so when the opportunity does present itself and you’re brought up that you’re ready to go. So that’s whether we sign a guy this week and start getting him ready to play or a guy like Davis, but certainly he’s been with me for a while. So, you’re not teaching it. He knows our stuff.”

Johnson was also elevated to the Giants’ active roster last week, but saw just one snap in a victory over Chicago.

Giants elevate Tony Jefferson, Fabian Moreau from practice squad

The Giants have elevated DBs Tony Jefferson and Fabian Moreau from their practice squad, but Cor’Dale Flott is expected to start in Week 2.

With cornerbacks Aaron Robinson (appendicitis) and Nick McCloud (hamstring) out in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers, the New York Giants promoted two defensive backs from their practice squad.

Safety Tony Jefferson will join the active roster for the second consecutive week, this time joined by cornerback Fabian Moreau.

By elevating Jefferson and Moreau, the Giants are left thin at outside linebacker. Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari are expected to miss the Week 2 game, leaving the team with just Jihad Ward, Oshane Ximines and Tomon Fox at the position.

Quincy Roche had been elevated last week, but the Giants ultimately deemed the two defensive backs more important.

Despite Moreau’s elevation, it’s rookie Cor’Dale Flott who is expected to start in place of Robinson.

Flott made his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, but took only a few special teams snaps.

Cardinals sign OL Max Garcia off Giants’ practice squad

The Arizona Cardinals have signed OL Max Garcia off of the New York Giants’ practice squad. Giants also elevated two players.

For the second time in a week, the New York Giants lost an offensive lineman off of their practice squad.

On Thursday, the New Orleans Saints plucked Wyatt Davis from the Giants and added him to their active roster. On Saturday, the Arizona Cardinals did the same thing with Max Garcia.

Garcia was a fourth-round pick (No. 133 overall) of the Denver Broncos in the 2015 NFL draft and played in all 16 games that season (starting five) for Denver’s Super Bowl 50 championship team. After four seasons in Colorado, Garcia spent three seasons with the Cardinals and now reunites with his former team.

Although he was on the practice squad, the Giants undoubtedly had plans for Garcia, who saw time at multiple positions this summer. But that’s the chance you take when putting quality veterans with experience on the practice squad.

Meanwhile, the Giants elevated safety Tony Jefferson and linebacker Quincy Roche from the reserve unit for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Jefferson was an expected elevation, while Roche’s presence seems to indicate that neither Kayvon Thibodeaux (knee) nor Azeez Ojulari (calf) will be able to play.

Tony Jefferson turned down other teams to join Giants, Wink Martindale

Tony Jefferson says he turned down multiple teams in order to sign with the New York Giants and reunite with Wink Martindale.

The New York Giants officially signed veteran safety Tony Jefferson to their practice squad on Thursday, but he’s not expected to remain there long.

Whether he’s signed to the active roster or promoted on gameday, Jefferson appears poised to take on a notable role in Wink Martindale’s defense. And that’s precisely why he joined the Giants.

Jefferson revealed that not only did the Baltimore Ravens want him back, but several other teams had come calling, too.

There was a brief moment Jefferson also considered retirement. He missed the 2020 season after suffering a serious knee injury that required as many as four surgeries, but is now feeling healthy.

“I’m all in, man. It’s the Big Apple. See the skyline from the field. I think I’m ready to play the best ball of my career,” Jefferson said, via Art Stapleton.

That’s music to Martindale’s ears. So much so that it warranted a rare smile.
