Teammate linebacker Mohamoud Diabate left the game and did not return due to a hip injury, so the Browns’ linebacker and special teams depth will be tested in the coming weeks if the two cannot suit up.

Not much has gone right for the Browns in Week 1, as they have struggled to sustain anything on either side of the ball. Tight end David Njoku also left the game earlier with an ankle injury and was listed as questionable to return.

In 2023, Fields saw 234 defensive snaps as a depth linebacker, along with 341 special teams snaps.

LB Tony Fields II seen in walking boot at Browns training camp

Fields will likely be sidelined for awhile

Training camp continued for the Cleveland Browns on Thursday with their first fully padded practice at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. During Thursday’s practice, young linebacker Tony Fields II was seen on the side in a walking boot.

Fields has been with the team since 2021, when he was selected in the fifth round of that year’s draft. He has struggled with injuries at times since being with the Browns and could be on the outside looking in when roster cuts happen at the end of the preseason.

He needed a strong camp to make the roster, and missing time will not help his case to stay on the 53-man roster. Over his time in Cleveland, he has played a total of 501 snaps and been a key part of special teams.

With Fields out that will give Nathaniel Watson and Mohamoud Diabate a chance to step up and try to secure roster spots for themselves.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ defensive players vs. Bengals

The backup defense struggled to finish the regular season

Just like they did for the offense Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns rested most of their significant contributors in the season finale against the Bengals. It was not a good start in Cincinnati as the Bengals scored 24 points in the first half and took a commanding 24-0 lead into the break. They played better in the second half as the Bengals also started to pull their starters.

Young safety D’Anthony Bell continued his strong season with his second interception and he played well for most of the day in both facets of the game. Vincent Gray who was elevated from the practice squad for the game had a great day in coverage and made a couple of impressive plays.

Sam Kamara showed his versatility by playing both inside and outside with consistent success. Rookie Isaiah McGuire might have had the best day as he registered five quarterback pressures and two sacks on the day. Here are the Top 10 performances for the defense according to PFF.

Browns LB Tony Fields II exits vs. Seahawks

Browns linebacker Tony Fields II leaves Seahawks game with an injury.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Tony Fields II exited the game against the Seattle Seahawks during the second quarter. The third-year linebacker was injured during the punt return as he was near the tackle pile. Fields is a special teams ace and the primary backup to the starting linebackers. In last week’s thrilling victory over the Colts, Fields recovered a fumble in the end zone to help spark the win.

Fields is a talented backup with a nose for the football. Hopefully, Fields returns against the Seahawks. The Browns are down 14-17 against the Seahawks and need all the help they can get.

There has been no update on what Fields II exited the field with.

We saw quarterback Deshaun Watson for three series in this game, and we saw a lot of depth linebacker Tony Fields II throughout this one.

Watson finished the game 5-of-10 for 92 yards with a beautiful touchdown pass to tight end David Njoku. He was credited with two fumbles, but those were on the exchange with running back Jordan Wilkins. John Kelly Jr. led the Browns in rushing with 20 yards on six carries, while Amari Cooper led in receiving with one catch of 53 yards.

As the Browns now get ready for the Cincinnati Bengals at home in two weeks, what can we take away from this loss to the Chiefs?

Injury Alert: Tony Fields II exits game vs. Chiefs with potential concussion

Browns LB Tony Fields II exits preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs for a concussion evaluation.

Linebacker Tony Fields II exited the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of the second quarter. The veteran linebacker is being evaluated for a concussion. Fields II was seen walking from the medical tent into the locker room for the Cleveland Browns.

Fields II is entering his third season with the Browns. After being drafted in the fifth round in 2021, the young player has grown into a solid contributor on defense and special teams. Fields II has received rave reviews from coaches so far during the offseason. A sign that his role on the team could expand. It is highly doubtful that this injury will impact Tony Fields II’s roster status. Hopefully, the third-year linebacker will pass the concussion protocol.
