Tommy Fury says Aug. 6 fight with Jake Paul in New York is on

Tommy Fury said an Aug. 6 fight with Jake Paul in New York is on.

Tommy Fury appears to be Jake Paul’s opponent for Aug. 6 in New York.

Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, ranted on social media early Wednesday that Fury was pulling out of a fight with him for a second time because his father, John Fury, cannot travel to the U.S. because of a criminal conviction.

However, the brother of Tyson Fury responded by saying that the fight is on.

“See you on August 6th, pal,” Fury commented in response to Paul’s tweet.

Paul and Fury, also a social media star, were expected to meet this past December but Fury pulled out because of an injury and illness. Instead, Paul stopped Tyron Woodley in their rematch.

The two reportedly had been in talks for weeks to reschedule the fight for the summer.

The younger Fury went on in a subsequent tweet: “The fight is on. August 6th. Forget a team or any other bull—-. I don’t need anybody to help me lay you flat on that canvas. Oh and thanks for finally signing the drug testing… you only agreed to it when you realized the fight was at risk – who needs who”

The fight is expected to take place at cruiserweight, which has a limit of 200 pounds. Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) is a small for the division while Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) is a big light heavyweight, having fought as heavy as 189 pounds. Paul weighed 191¼ for the second Woodley fight.

Tyron Woodley promises to knock out Jake Paul in rematch

Tyron Woodley promised to knock out Jake Paul in their rematch.

Editor’s note: This article was originally published at MMAJunkie.com.

Tyron Woodley wasn’t Jake Paul’s initial opponent choice for Dec. 18, but the former UFC champion has been preparing to fight him anyway.

With Tommy Fury out as a result of health and injury problems, Woodley will get his rematch against Paul when he steps in on two weeks’ notice to face the YouTube star in an eight-round boxing match at Amelie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Paul (4-0, 3 KOs) defeated Woodley (0-1) by a split decision this past August, but it didn’t come without a bit of adversity. Woodley was able to knock Paul into the ropes in Round 4, but overall, Woodley was tentative while Paul was more active.

Woodley has been campaigning for a rematch ever since the fight ended and had an inkling that he would get his wish eventually, which is why he’s been training hard for the past couple of months.

“I want to let you guys know I’m excited about this fight,” Woodley said on Instagram (h/t MMA Crazy). “I also want to let you guys know that something told me end of September, beginning of October, I told my boxing coach, ‘My spirit ain’t sitting right. The fight that’s supposed to happen is me and Jake. This Tommy Fury fight doesn’t even make f—ing sense. Like, who gives a f— about that fight? Nobody does.’ This fight was unfinished business. I feel like I won the fight.

“Of course, do I want to knock this motherf—-r out? Yeah, I wanted to knock him the f— out. But the cookie crumbled the way it did, and I feel like it’s been a movie from the beginning. I told my coach that, and I didn’t just speak it and tell him that, I said, ‘Watch what I’m telling you.’ I told my strength and conditioning coach, and I told my boxing coach, ‘This fight ain’t gonna happen. Let’s train as if we are fighting for this f—ing fight.’ I flew him in from Miami – my strength and conditioning coach is already in St. Louis – and I literally started training.”

Paul announced that Woodley will earn an extra $500,000 if he’s able to finish the fight, and “The Chosen One” vows to come through.

“One thing I know for sure, my spirit has never been f—ing wrong,” Woodley said. “My intuition, my alignment – so when I got the call, it was kind of funny because sometimes people call you and they think you out of shape. They think you fat, and they think you greasy, and they think you not ready. I was ready, and I’m so thankful.”

He continued, “I’m f—ing in shape. I’m ready to f—ing go. I sparred 12 rounds the other day. I sparred seven rounds last night around the same time I’m gonna fight, midnight, 1 a.m.. I’m f—ing excited, and I’m thankful, and I’m blessed. I’m blessed for the opportunity, and I promise you I didn’t even hesitate.

“That motherf—-r can say a lot of s—. If you ask the people, when they asked me, within moments, ‘yes’ was the first thing that came out of my mouth. What the f— you mean? … No doubt, no controversy, no bulls—, no shenanigans. He’s going to f—ing sleep, I promise you that.”

Jake Paul to face Tyron Woodley in rematch after Tommy Fury pulls out of Dec. 18 fight

Jake Paul will face Tyron Woodley in rematch after Tommy Fury pulled out of their Dec. 18 fight.

Tyron Woodley will get a second shot at Jake Paul on Dec. 18 after Tommy Fury pulled out as Paul’s opponent because of a medical issue, according to a news release.

Woodley withdrew because of a “medical issue that impacted his training camp,” according to the release.

Paul (4-0, 3 KOs) defeated Woodley, a former MMA star making his boxing debut, by a split decision in a closely contested eight-round cruiserweight fight on Aug. 29.

“When my team woke up on Friday to tell me Tommy was pulling out, I told them I’m ready to fight any on December 18,” Paul said. “Troy, Trey, Trevor, Travis. I don’t give a damn who it is. So, as I predicted, Tommy fumbles and Tyron is there to pick it up, stepping in.

“And contractually he is getting an extra $500,000 if he knocks me out. First time I outboxed him. This time I’m gonna punish him and leave no doubt.”

The Paul-Woodley rematch will take place in Tampa, Florida, and will be available on pay-per-view.

Jake Paul to rematch Tyron Woodley on Dec. 18 after Tommy Fury withdraws

Tyron Woodley will get his wish after all and get another crack at Jake Paul in less than two weeks.

[autotag]Tyron Woodley[/autotag] will get his wish after all.

[autotag]Tommy Fury[/autotag] has withdrawn from his boxing match with [autotag]Jake Paul[/autotag], who will now rematch Woodley on Dec. 18 in an eight-round fight at Amelie Arena in Tampa, Fla., on Showtime pay-per-view. The reason for Fury’s withdrawal has not been disclosed.

Social media personality Keemstar was first to report the news overnight, which Jake Paul announced Monday morning on Instagram.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CXJWGDjFTK6/?utm_medium=copy_link

Paul (4-0) edged out Woodley (0-1) by split decision this past August, and the former UFC welterweight champion has campaigned for a rematch ever since. Calls to run it back only grew louder from Woodley after he followed through on a pre-fight bet by getting Paul’s name tattooed on his middle finger for losing to him. Paul initially indicated that he’d be willing to rematch Woodley if he got the tattoo, and they shook on it in the ring, but Paul instead opted to face Fury, the brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

But now that Fury is out, Paul will get into the ring with the man who gave him his toughest test to date. Although Paul was the busier fighter, Woodley was able to rock him in Round 4, and the YouTuber-turned-boxer went the distance for the first time.

Woodley, 39, hasn’t won a fight since his last UFC welterweight title defense against Darren Till on Sept. 8, 2018. He departed the UFC earlier this year after a four-fight losing streak to Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington, and Vicente Luque, the final two being stoppages.

Tommy Fury’s camp: Jake Paul refused drug testing implementation ahead of fight

Tommy Fury’s camp: Jake Paul refused drug testing implementation ahead of fight.

Editor’s note: This article was originally published on MMAJunkie.com.

According to Tommy Fury’s camp, Jake Paul will not be tested ahead of their upcoming boxing match – and it was of his own volition.

John Fury, the brashly outspoken father of Tommy Fury and heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, claimed in a recent interview with Rob Moore that the YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul refused VADA testing be added as a stipulation into their pre-fight requirements – despite all of the other unusual clauses.

“There was all kinds of stuff in the contracts,” John Fury said. “There was all kinds of it, like, ‘You’ve got to change your name for a year. You’ve got to do this. You’ve got to do that.’ … He’s got to change his name to ‘Tommy Fumbles’ for a year. All rubbish on that. I could go into it more and more but I don’t want to bore people with politics. Do you know what I’m saying?…

“And like everything else, he wouldn’t sign up for the VADA testing either. That bothered me a little bit because I want that in the contract. But he wouldn’t do that. But I’m not even bothered about that because what they’re going to do, they’re going to do anyway.

“So yeah, we just want the fight because we know we can win it. The people that think Tommy is getting paid to lose, they’re joking.”

While it’s unclear if Paul was tested ahead of his bouts against Ali Enson Gib and Ben Askren, he was prior to his most recent fight against Tyron Woodley, MMA Junkie confirmed with an Ohio State Athletic Commission official in August.

Paul (4-0) will take on fellow undefeated professional Fury (7-0) at a weight of 192 pounds. The eight-round fight will take place Dec. 18 at Amelie Arena in Tampa, Fla., and air on Showtime pay-per-view.

Jake Paul says Tommy Fury easier fight than Tyron Woodley: ‘I’m gonna knock him the f— out’

Although Tommy Fury is the first legitimate boxer Jake Paul is going to face, he doesn’t view him as his toughest test.

YouTube sensation-turned pro boxer Paul has notched four wins since lacing up the gloves, picking up wins over YouTuber AnEsonGib, former NBA player Nate Robinson, former Bellator and ONE Championship titleholder Ben Askren, and former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

He faces Fury on Dec. 18 in an eight-round, 192-pound catchweight bout at Amalie Arena and although Fury has seven pro boxing wins under his belt, he doesn’t think the unbeaten Brit has ever been properly tested.

“This is an easier fight than Tyron,” Paul said at the pre-fight U.K. press conference. “This is a young kid who’s never had a real fight, and I’m gonna knock him the f*ck out because he doesn’t have a chin. He’s never even been hit hard by anybody.”

He continued, “These people think they’re gonna come in and beat me because they have amateur careers or they’re professional this or UFC that. They don’t understand what they’re getting in with. It’s funny to see each and every one of them fail in front the world.

“The same exact thing is gonna happen to Tommy and people will just come back and look at these press conferences and these interviews and say, ‘Damn, this kid really knew what he was talking about.’”

Fury, the 22-year-old half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, thinks Paul bit off more than he can chew by accepting to face someone who’s actually dedicated their life to the sport of boxing.

“When his fights aren’t rigged, he can’t win,” Fury said. “When his fights aren’t rigged and set up, he loses. Let’s be honest, I’m not a UFC fighter, I’m not a YouTuber, and I’m not a basketball player.

“I’ve been doing this my whole life and come Dec. 18, you’re gonna have a funny look at the team around you because they got you in a world of trouble.”
