Analyzing Wednesday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Tigers (79-73) and Kansas City Royals (82-70) meet Wednesday as they close out a 3-game AL Central series. First pitch from Kaufman Stadium is slated for 7:40 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Royals lead 7-5

Detroit won Monday’s lid-lifter 7-6 and triumphed in Tuesday’s game 3-1 in 10 innings. The Tigers are 4-2 across their last 6 games; all 6 have been decided by 2 runs or fewer.

Kansas City has lost 3 straight games. Over that stretch, the Royals have gone just 6 for 32 (.188) with runners in scoring position. The clutch failings were key in 3 games decided by a combined 4 runs.

Tigers at Royals projected starters

LHP Tarik Skubal vs. RHP Alec Marsh

Skubal (16-4, 2.50 ERA) is tabbed for his 30th start. He has authored a 0.94 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 10.7 K/9 through 180 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K in 4-2 home loss vs. Colorado Rockies Thursday
  • Career vs. Royals: 2-9, 5.05 ERA (71 1/3 IP, 40 ER), 1.09 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 14 appearances (12 starts)
  • Has not allowed more than 3 runs in a game since Aug. 2

Marsh (8-8, 4.52 ERA) is making his 24th start and 25th appearance. He owns a 1.23 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 through 121 1/3 IP.

  • Last outing: Win, 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 11 K in 8-3 victory at Pittsburgh Pirates Friday
  • Career vs. Tigers: 1-0, 1 home start (May 21), 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 10-3 win

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 4, Royals 3

Moneyline

Skubal has been outstanding for the Tigers. And he has a history of strong September finishes: In 17 career September-October games (regular season), he’s held opposing bats to a tidy .591 OPS.

Marsh is making this start on 4 days of rest; that’s a 1st for him since June, and his season numbers favor longer rest. On 4 days of rest, the right-hander has been touched up for a .774 OPS. On 5 days of rest, he’s held foes to a .722 mark while posting a batter K:BB ratio.

A warmed-up game with an outward breeze is in the forecast: Advantage Skubal, who gets more ground balls than Marsh.

Look for the Bengals to close out the sweep. They are 5-0 in their last 5 getaway games.

TAKE DETROIT (-150).

Run line/Against the spread

The game has a slight Under lean. PASS on trying to get the Tigers by with a cushion.

Over/Under

The Under has hit in 5 of Detroit’s last 6 games and in 9 of Kansas City’s last 12.

Both sides have been playing tight pitchers’ duels of late. Both have expected-runs numbers that say they are too far out over their skis with season run production.

BET THE UNDER 7.5 (+100).

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Tigers (78-73) and Kansas City Royals (82-69) meet Tuesday as they continue a 3-game AL Central series in Missouri. The opening delivery from Kaufman Stadium is slated for 7:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Royals lead 7-4

Detroit won Monday’s lid-lifter 7-6 and has won 3 of its last 4 games and 7 of its last 9. The Tigers’  fine play of late has put them in the thick of a battle to get to October. They head into Tuesday 1 1/2 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the 3rd-and-final AL Wild Card slot.

Kansas City’s loss marked the 3rd straight 1-run game between the AL Central foes. The Royals coughed up an early 4-0 lead in having a 4-game home win streak snapped.

Tigers at Royals projected starters

RHP Casey Mize vs. LHP Cole Ragans

Mize (2-6, 4.47 ERA) is making his 20th start. He has a 1.40 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 in 94 2/3 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 7 K in 7-4 win vs. Colorado Rockies Wednesday
  • Career vs. Royals: 2-2, 5.65 ERA (43 IP, 27 ER), 49 H, 10 BB, 29 K in 9 starts
  • Making his 4th start off the IL (hamstring strain); has a 5.63 ERA in 16 IP since Aug. 30 return

Ragans (11-9, 3.32 ERA) is tabbed for his 31st start. He has a 1.15 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 11.0 K/9 in 173 1/3 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 7 K in 4-3 loss at New York Yankees Wednesday
  • Career vs. Tigers: 2-1, 2.89 ERA (18 2/3 IP, 6 ER), 8 H, 11 BB, 27 K in 4 appearances (3 starts)

Who’s going yard? Here’s a breakdown of today’s best home run props with our top picks. Include the BetMGM bonus code SBWIRE to score a $1,500 first-bet offer.

Tigers at Royals odds

  • Moneyline: Tigers +145 (bet $100 to win $145) | Royals -175 (bet $175 to win $100)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Tigers +1.5 (-150) | Royals -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 8 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Royals 4, Tigers 3

Moneyline

The Royals are 6-2 over their last 8 games vs. Detroit. K.C. is a solid 45-31 at home.

Mize has been yielding loud contact of late, and Ragans has been in top form. Pitching against a strong slate of opponents, Ragans has registered a 3.20 ERA since Aug. 2. Over that span, the Royals port-sider has displayed excellent bat-missing and quality-of-contact analytics. Per ESPN, current Detroit batters own an aggregate .517 OPS against him.

The back end of the Kansas City bullpen is in much better shape for this game.

TAKE KANSAS CITY (-175).

Run line/Against the spread

Kansas City has a good ATS mark, but this contest has a lean toward the Over, and both sides have found their ways into a ton of close games this month.

STEER CLEAR.

Over/Under

The Under has hit in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games and in 8 of Kansas City’s last 11 games. Four straight Ragans outings have also cashed on the Under.

Mize has suffered through a .324 batting average on balls in play (.425 BABIP in inning lead-off situations), and there is definitely some daylight between his surface and expected ERA figures.

Peg this contest as a solid all-around pitching match-up. BET THE UNDER 8 (-115).

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Tigers (77-73) and Kansas City Royals (82-68) meet Monday to open a 3-game series. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium is slated for 7:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Royals lead 7-3

The Tigers have gotten into the AL Wild Card hunt by going 15-7 over their last 22 games. They are on the road after a key 4-2 home stand that wrapped up with a 4-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles Sunday. Detroit is 7-3 over its last 10 road tilts.

Kansas City lost to the Pittsburg Pirates 4-3 Sunday but is 7-3 over its last 10 games after a dismal Aug. 28-Sept. 3 stretch. The Royals lost 7 straight over that span, but in righting the ship, the ball club heads into the season’s final fortnight 2½ games clear of the 3rd-and-final AL Wild Card slot.

Tigers at Royals projected starters

TBD vs. RHP Seth Lugo

Detroit had not yet announced a starter, but RHP Reese Olson (4-8, 3.23 ERA) could make his 20th start. He owns a 1.18 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 through 103 IP.

  • Has missed nearly 2 months with shoulder strain
  • Last start: No-decision, 2 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 BB, 0 K in 7-3 win at Toronto Blue Jays July 20
  • 2024 road stats: 1-4, 3.02 ERA (53 2/3 IP, 18 ER), 1.19 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 in 11 starts
  • Career vs. Royals: 0-2, 2.53 ERA (21 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 1.22 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 in 4 starts

Lugo (16-8, 2.94 ERA) is making his 31st start. He has authored a 1.09 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 7.9 K/9 through 193 IP.

  • Last outing: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 10 K in 5-0 victory at New York Yankees Tuesday
  • Career vs. Tigers: 3-0, 1.29 ERA (21 IP, 3 ER), 0.91 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 3 starts

  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Royals 5, Tigers 4

Moneyline

KANSAS CITY (-150) is 6-1 over its last 7 games against Detroit.

The Royals’ 5.00 runs per game at home rank 5th in MLB. Their offensive numbers of late are a bit depressed by some shaky games batting with runners in scoring position.

Olson threw just 45 pitches in his most recent rehab outing at Triple-A, so he can’t be expected to get deep into this one if he starts.

The Bengals are just 1-4 over their last 5 road series openers.

KANSAS CITY (-150) is the value side of this Monday tilt at Kaufman Stadium.

Run line/Against the spread

Catch better value on the ML, and avoid the RL with a Detroit club that plays a ton of 1-run games. PASS.

Over/Under

The last 7 series meetings have cranked out a 5-2 edge for the Over. Tigers road games have seen the Over go 40-31-4.

Lugo and Olson are solid pitchers, but both have higher expected-ERA figures. Both have favorable rates around the margins most touched by luck factors like batting average on balls in play.

On a warmed-up day in Kansas City, and with the Royals’ lineup being slightly undervalued by recent numbers, BACK THE OVER 8.5 (+100).

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Tigers (23-24) and Kansas City Royals (30-19) play the 2nd game of a 3-game series at Kauffman Stadium Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 2-2

Detroit was felled 8-3 in Monday’s series opener and is now 2-2 on a road trip that opened with 3 weekend games in Phoenix.

The surprising Royals have won 4 in a row (while logging a plus-15 in run differential) and are now 19-6 across their last 25 games at Kauffman Stadium.

Tigers at Royals projected starters

RHP Casey Mize vs. RHP Alec Marsh

Mize (1-2, 3.50 ERA) is tabbed for his 9th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 43 2/3 innings.

  • Last outing: Loss, 6 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 2-0 loss vs. Miami Marlins Wednesday
  • Career vs. Royals: 2-1, 4.57 ERA (41 1/3 IP, 21 ER), 40 H, 10 BB, 27 K in 8 starts
  • Scuffled in a May 4 outing at Yankee Stadium but still owns a 3.18 ERA over his last 5 starts

Marsh (3-1, 2.43 ERA) is making his 8th start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 37 innings.

  • Last outing: Loss, 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 4-2 loss at Seattle Mariners Wednesday
  • Has never faced Tigers before
  • Is a fly-ball pitcher who has benefited from a low 7.1% rate of flies leaving the yard; has also pitched through the lesser traffic of a .248 batting average on balls in play

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 6, Royals 4

Moneyline

Despite Monday’s setback, Detroit (-105) is 4-2 over its last 6 games at Kansas City and 7-2 across its last 9 games overall against the Royals.

There is some fairly significant fade to the home side here. But with a likable Over and a good price, the Run Line is the best leverage target here. PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Against the RL, the Tigers are 15-9 on the road.

From an analytics standpoint, Kansas City pitching has gotten by with some generous rates around the margins (a .251 batting average on balls in play with runners in scoring position, for example). Alec Marsh is emblematic of a staff too far out over its skis: He’s been aided by generous rates around the margins all around.

In a contest with a brink outward-blowing breeze in the forecast, Detroit starts a ground-baller, and KC counters with a fly-baller. Despite how surface numbers may read, the Tigers have the better bullpen by a solid margin. Detroit has played well on the road.

TAKE THE TIGERS -1.5 (+155).

Over/Under

The Over has gone 14-9-1 in the Tigers’ road games; that includes 6 straight Overs the last 6 road games.

With a little bit of fade to Mize’s numbers and a lotta-bit of fade to Marsh’s, plus a possible downwind jet stream blowing out to right (and Detroit likely has the more left-leaning lineup), BACK THE OVER 9 (-115).

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Tigers (23-23) and Kansas City Royals (29-19) meet Monday at 7:40 p.m. ET (FS1) as they lift the lid on a 3-game AL Central set at Kauffman Stadium. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tigers lead 2-1

Detroit is continuing a 6-game road trip that opened with the Tigers taking 2 of 3 at the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend. Before that series, Detroit had been just 1-6 over their previous 7 road games.

The Royals are fresh off a 3-game home sweep of the Oakland Athletics and are 8-3 since May 8. Kansas City has allowed just 3.46 runs per game (3rd MLB) in sporting one of the more surprising early-season records.

Tigers at Royals projected starters

RHP Reese Olson vs. RHP Michael Wacha

Olson (0-4, 2.09 ERA) is tabbed for his 9th start. He has a 0.99 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 47 1/3 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 8 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 6 K in 1-0 loss vs. Miami Marlins Tuesday
  • Career vs. Royals: 0-1, 2.41 ERA (18 2/3 IP, 5 ER), 14 H, 6 BB, 23 K in 3 games

Wacha (3-4, 4.71 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.37 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 in 49 2/3 IP.

  • Last outing: Win, 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 7 K in 4-2 win at Seattle Mariners Tuesday
  • Career vs. Tigers: 1-1, 3.43 ERA (21 IP, 8 ER), 19 H, 5 BB, 20 K in 4 starts

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 6, Royals 4

Moneyline

The Tigers are 8-2 over their last 10 games against Kansas City.

Olson has registered a tidy 0.69 ERA with an 0.62 WHIP over his last 4 starts, and that stretch includes facing these Royals (1 run in 7 IP April 26) and the solid-offensively Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees. He’s too far out over his skis with the surface ERA, but he’s done well to limit hard contact, and he has held current KC bats to an aggregate .634 OPS (ESPN).

Wacha has scuffled in his last 2 turns at home. With veteran hurlers especially, career match-up surface numbers like his 3.43 ERA vs. Detroit often fall way short of telling any sort of relevant story. Per ESPN, current Tigers batters own an aggregate .897 OPS against him.

FanDuel Sportsbook has the value line here: BACK THE TIGERS (+100).

Run line/Against the spread

Worth a look if the return on Detroit was higher. Short of a sizable line move in that direction, PASS.

Over/Under

The Over has cashed in 5 straight Detroit road games.

There is some fade to the Olson numbers due to some generous rates around the margins. Both bullpens are in the same boat.

TAKE THE OVER 8.5 (-120).

Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tigers lead 6-3

The Tigers won 3-2 on Wednesday, the same score as Monday’s series opening win. Those wins sandwich an 11-10 setback on Tuesday night. In 5 of the last 7 games, Detroit has either won or lost by a single run. The Under has cashed in 4 of the last 5 games overall.

The Royals have managed to win just twice in the last 6 home games, with the Under and Over alternating in each of the last 5 outings. Kansas City has managed to win just 3 times in the last 14 games against divisional opponents, too.

Kansas City is expected to activate RHP Zack Greinke (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list to start Thursday. He threw a bullpen session earlier in the week.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Tigers at Royals projected starters

RHP Michael Lorenzen vs. RHP Zack Greinke

Lorenzen (4-6, 3.75 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.0 K/9 in 93 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 5 BB, 7 K in 6-0 road win vs. the Seattle Mariners Saturday
  • 2023 road splits: 1-3, 3.70 ERA (41 1/3 IP, 17 ER – 4 HR), .212 opponent batting average (OBA) in 7 starts

Greinke (1-9, 5.44 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 1.3 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 in 92 2/3 innings.

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 5, Royals 3

Moneyline

The TIGERS (-130) are a solid play in Thursday’s series finale with their All-Star Lorenzen on the bump. Greinke is expected to return for the Royals (+110), but he has been shaky for the entire season. He allowed a solo homer for his only run allowed across 5 innings in a no-decision May 24 in Kansas City, but he could be quite rusty in this one.

Run line/Against the spread

The TIGERS -1.5 (+125) are worth a roll of the dice on the run line in Thursday’s series finale. While Detroit has been involved in plenty of 1-run games lately, including 3 in this series alone, the Tigers should be able to tee off on Greinke like so many others before them.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 8.5 (+100) is the lean in Thursday’s getaway day game.

The Under has cashed in 2 of the last 3 road outings for Lorenzen, and the total went low in his most recent outing against Kansas City on June 20, a 1-0 setback in Motown.

While the Under is 4-3 in the last 7 starts overall for Greinke, the Under has connected in each of the last 2 home outings. The Under is 8-3 in the last 11 games overall for Kansas City, too.

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Tigers (41-51) and Kansas City Royals (27-67) open a 4-game set Monday at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 5, Royals 4

Moneyline

The Tigers have won 7 of the last 9 meetings between these teams and should get another win with Lyles — MLB’s leader in losses this season — on the mound for the Royals.

Kansas City is arguably the worst team in the league and has not won back-to-back games since July 1-2 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.

BET TIGERS (-135).

Run line/Against the spread

I personally only bet the moneyline in this game, but an argument can also be made for the Tigers’ run line.

Kansas City has lost 16 of Lyle’s 17 starts, and 14 of them came by multiple runs. Kansas City’s last 10 losses overall have also been by 2 or more runs.

So if you’re also looking to play something at plus money, you can SPRINKLE on TIGERS -1.5 (+120).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Under has hit in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games and 6 of Kansas City’s last 8.

While Lyles is a liability on the mound for playing the Under, he has allowed just 4 or fewer earned runs in 3 straight starts.

LEAN UNDER 9.5 (-115).

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals Game 1 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Detroit Tigers (36-49) and Kansas City Royals (32-52) start a 4-game A.L. Central series Monday with a doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium. First pitch for Game 1 is slated for 2:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: tied 3-3.

The Tigers started what is a 14-game trip that spans the All-Star break by splitting a 4-game series at the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. Detroit scored 2 runs or fewer in 3 of those games and batted just .188/.252/.281 (.533 OPS) for the series. The Bengals own a mere .605 OPS over their last 6 road games.

The Royals are continuing a home stand that opened by taking 2-of-3 games from the Cleveland Guardians. After more than 2 months of bottom-5 production from its offense, Kansas City has come alive at the plate lately. The Royals own a respectable .747 OPS over their last 30 games.

Tigers at Royals projected starters

RHP Michael Pineda vs. RHP Brad Keller

Pineda (2-3, 3.62 ERA) has logged a 1.18 WHIP, 1.7 BB/9 and 4.7 K/9 through 32 1/3 IP over 7 starts.

  • Has pitched 2 games in July after missing about 6 weeks with a fractured right middle finger.
  • Current Kansas City bats own an aggregate .860 OPS against him.

Keller (4-9, 4.37 ERA) has made 16 starts. He has a 1.34 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 5.9 K/9 through 90 2/3 IP.

  • Owns a 3.00 ERA over his last 5 starts against the Tigers.
  • Current Detroit bats own an aggregate 640 OPS against him.
  • Has been tagged with a 7.85 ERA over his last 4 home starts.

Tigers at Royals picks and predictions

Prediction

Royals 6, Tigers 4

Money line

Pineda is a fly-ball pitcher and Keller a ground-ball pitcher which results in an advantage for the Royals on a warm day with a breeze blowing out.

Pineda has thrown just 65 and 83 pitches in his 2 games since returning from injury, so how much can he save the Tigers bullpen in the opener of this double-dip? Keller has logged a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 ERA across 2 starts against Detroit this season.

Run line/Against the spread

TAKE KANSAS CITY 1.5 (+135).

Over/Under

There are some mixed indicators here, but the OVER 9.5 (+100) is intriguing.

There is some slight fade on both starters and some ammo taking down the Detroit bullpen. When you add in a hot afternoon in K.C. and the forecast of an outward breeze then this one has enough of a double-digit probability on the total to warrant some action.

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Detroit Tigers (47-52) face the Kansas City Royals (40-55) Saturday at Kauffman Stadium for the second game of their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 7-7.

RHP Casey Mize makes his 19th start for the Tigers. Mize is 5-5 with a 3.44 ERA (99 1/3 IP, 38 ER), 1.11 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 this year.

  • Last outing: No-decision with 4 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB and 2 K in Detroit’s 14-0 win against the Texas Rangers Monday.
  • Mize is 2-1 this season against K.C. with a 4.56 ERA (23 2/3 IP, 12 ER), 1.14 WHIP and 2.0 K/BB rate in four starts.
    • vs. Royals on the current roster: 4.66 FIP with a .253 batting average, .316 wOBA, .388 expected slugging percentage, 12.1 K% and 86.5 mph exit velocity in 91 plate appearances.

RHP Carlos Martinez is on the rubber for the Royals. Martinez is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA (25 2/3 IP, 14 ER), 1.60 WHIP, 6.0 BB/9 and 12.6 K/9 over one start and 12 relief appearances.

  • Last outing: Loss, 5-0, with 4 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB and 6 K Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles.

  • Money line: Tigers +110 (bet $100 to win $110) | Royals -135 (bet $135 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Tigers +1.5 (-165) | Royals -1.5 (+140)
  • Over/Under: 10.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Prediction

Royals 8, Tigers 5

Money line (ML)

Even though K.C.’s money line price could look out of whack since it just snapped Detroit’s seven-game winning streak, there is some value in the ROYALS (-135).

There has been “sharp, reverse line movement” as more than 80% of the public is backing the Tigers, but oddsmakers are moving the line in favor of K.C. as this game opened with the Royals priced at -105 on the money line (according to Pregame.com).

The reason for the presumed “sharp” line movement is because the Tigers are putting an innings restriction on Mize and Detroit’s bullpen is a bottom-10 unit across several advanced pitching categories.

Mize was dominant in his previous start, but the Tigers held to their plan and pulled Mize despite allowing only one hit and throwing just 54 pitches.

All of the Tigers’ seven-game winning streak happened at home and the Royals are 15-13 this year as home favorites. Plus, the Tigers are 19-30 as road underdogs.

The play is a “LEAN” to the ROYALS (-135) for a half unit.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS because K.C. is just 12-16 ATS as a home favorite this season with a minus-1.3 run line margin. It’s too hard to envision how this game plays out since we should see a lot of each bullpen Saturday.

Over/Under (O/U)

I’m going to be a sheep, follow the herd and BET the OVER 10.5 (-105) for 1 unit because the market is hammering the Over despite a whole bunch of Under trends.

Typically, you don’t want to align with the public in sports betting, but there’s no way a bunch of square bettors are backing the Over in a July Tigers-Royals game.

However, the Royals are 17-10-1 O/U as home favorites this season, the Tigers are 25-21-3 O/U as road dogs and this could turn into a slugfest with both teams featuring their terrible bullpens most of the game.

Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Detroit Tigers (28-39) and Kansas City Royals (30-36) finalize a three-game AL Central set at Kauffman Stadium Wednesday. First pitch will be at 2:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Tigers vs. Royals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

LHP Tarik Skubal is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. Skubal is 3-7 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 11.1 K/9, and 4.4 BB/9 in 60 IP over 11 starts and 2 bullpen appearances.

Skubal coughed up 3 home runs and 6 ER on April 10 but has recorded a 3.73 ERA since. The 24-year-old left-hander has notched a 14.3 K/9 in his last 5 starts, and his underlying analytics support an ERA south of 4.00.

RHP Brady Singer is the projected starter for the Royals. He is 3-5 with a 4.85 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 9.6 K/9, and 3.3 BB/9 in 65 IP over 13 starts.

Singer is facing Detroit for a third time this season, allowing 4 ER through 13 1/3 IP in the first two meetings. Current Detroit batters own a .622 OPS against the 24-year-old right-hander.

Tigers at Royals odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:46 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Tigers +125 (bet $100 to win $125) | Royals -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Tigers +1.5 (-155) | Royals -1.5 (+125)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Tigers 4, Royals 3

Money line (ML)

Detroit defeated Kansas City 10-3 in Monday’s opener and 4-3 in Tuesday’s second game. With the losses, the Royals are just 1-10 over their last 11 contests.

Both starters are worthy of play attention, but Singer is coming off back-to-back 100-pitch efforts and may not bounce back as sharp here. KC has been a fade candidate over recent weeks; their skid may be bringing that opportunity to an end soon – but not yet. BACK THE TIGERS (+125).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the run line, but consider a Detroit play if the price reaches -150 or better.

Over/Under (O/U)

Both starting pitchers figure as better than what shows in their surface numbers. Singer, for example, owns peripheral numbers very much in line with his 2020 season in which he produced an ERA of 4.06.

The Under is 15-5-1 in the last 21 meetings between the Royals and Tigers; clock the UNDER 9 (-105) as a solid play.
