On Thursday night, Carolina Panthers legend Julius Peppers was granted his rightful and well-deserved access into Canton, Ohio—as he was named as one of the seven members for this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame class.

Now that he’s a full-fledged YouTuber, franchise great Cam Newton has been setting up shop at radio row this week from the site of Super Bowl LVIII. And during his second outing on the job, he got a heartwarming surprise from an old friend . . .

Former linebacker Luke Kuechly—one of Newton’s “favorite teammates of all-time,” per Newton—joined his pal on the set for a few minutes. Cam wasn’t stingy with more superlatives either—also presenting to some and introducing Luke to others as the “epitome of an ultimate teammate,” “a professional,” and, of course, “Captain America.”

Newton would then ask Kuechly how, during his illustrious eight-year NFL career, he could turn the switch from Clark Kent to Superman.

“You wanna compete, man. You wanna win,” Kuechly replied. “You work so hard and you wanna win. And I think that’s really what it comes down to is the competitive side of guys is ultimately what makes ’em a good football player.

“And you know how it was in Carolina—we had the best dudes. Whether it was Thomas [Davis] or G.O. [Greg Olsen] or [Ryan] Kalil or you or Chuck [Charles Johnson] or K.K. [Kawann Short] and Star [Lotulelei], and I’m missin’ guys, Roman [Harper] and Peanut [Charles Tillman] and Josh [Norman]—everybody on our team was so doggone competitive. Stew [Jonathan Stewart], [Mike] Tolbert, Fozzy [Whittaker]. And it was just kinda an understanding of like, this is how we do things in Carolina and if you don’t wanna be a part of it, then go on and get out.”

The way they did things resulted in the most sustained success in franchise history. With Newton and Kuechly leading the way, the Panthers captured three consecutive NFC South titles and an NFC championship between 2013 and 2015.

So, hopefully this new era in Carolina starts stacking up some competitors, or dawgs, of their own.

Panthers great Jonathan Stewart ’empowered’ by Morgan-Canales presser

New Panthers HC Dave Canales definitely has a fan in franchise great Jonathan Stewart.

The Carolina Panthers haven’t won a playoff game since Jonathan Stewart was on the roster. So, much like the rest of the faithful, he’s felt the pain from this franchise for quite some time.

But, the former running back was feeling something much different on Thursday—after the team’s introductory press conference for new president of football operations Dan Morgan and new head coach Dave Canales. He and a handful of other Panthers greats were in attendance at Bank of America Stadium this morning to experience the start of a new era, and it may be something that sticks with them for a while . . .

Stewart then tweeted the following later in the evening:

As far as the legends go, Carolina’s all-time leading rusher was joined by Thomas Davis (obviously), Mike Tolbert, Muhsin Muhammad and Mike Rucker. A few active players—including offensive linemen Ikem Ekwonu, Brady Christensen and Austin Corbett—were also in the seats.

2026 four-star athlete Thomas Davis Jr. gets USC offer

USC recruits the son of 16-year NFL veteran and three-time Pro Bowler Thomas Davis Sr., a famous Carolina Panther.

Thomas Davis Jr. of Weddington High School in Matthews, North Carolina, has been offered by USC.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Davis is rated the No. 67 overall prospect and the No. 3 linebacker, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 82 overall prospect and the No. 3 linebacker in the 247Sports rankings.

Davis recorded 92 total tackles with 13.5 tackles for a loss (a sack) and seven QB hurries in 16 games. He also broke up eight passes, recorded one interception, and caused a fumble. He recorded 31 tackles, two TFL, a sack, two INTs, and two fumble recoveries as a freshman. Davis also plays basketball and track and field, running the 100 and 200 meters.

His father, Thomas Davis Sr., was a NFL draft first-round pick in 2004 who became 16-year NFL veteran, playing 14 of those years with the Carolina Panthers. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro selection. Davis Sr. was the NFL’s 2014 Walter Payton Man of the Year and a one-time All-America selection during a three-year college career at Georgia (2002-04).

Davis Jr. also holds offers from Wake Forest, Purdue, N.C. State, Duke, South Carolina, Georgia, Miami, Virginia Tech, UNC, Auburn, Tennessee, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Penn State, and others.

Thomas Davis: There’s a Cam Newton-like electricity surrounding Bryce Young

The electricity Panthers great Thomas Davis is feeling in Bryce Young reminds him a bit of when Cam Newton first arrived in Charlotte.

To Carolina Panthers fans, Cam Newton is one of one. He’s often imitated, but has never been duplicated.

The same goes for what Newton brought to the team, the organization and the city—from his record-breaking MVP play to his larger-than-life presence. But one of his former teammates feels the Panthers may have something at least a little similar in their new No. 1 overall pick.

Franchise great Thomas Davis stopped by the set of Good Morning Football on Wednesday. After talking about the newest Hall of Honor inductees in Julius Peppers and Muhsin Muhammad, the legendary linebacker was asked about rookie quarterback Bryce Young.

“Listen—I watched Bryce Young year in and year out at Alabama,” Davis told host and former quarterback Ryan Leaf. “I even had the opportunity, when I was with the Chargers, to watch him a little bit in high school. But me being a Georgia Bulldog, I watched this kid play way too much and I know what he brings to the table.”

Well, Young brought an awful lot to the table against Davis’ Dawgs. In his two games versus Georgia, the University of Alabama star passed for 790 yards and four touchdowns over a 2021 series split—one in the SEC title game and the other in the national title game.

Davis went on to talk about what Young brings to Carolina, and it kind of reminds him of what another Heisman Trophy winner did there.

“He’s a kid that’s very dynamic with his arm talent,” he added. “But what he brings to the table as far as getting out of the pocket, keeping the plays alive, being able to find things down the field, his leadership qualities that you hear people rave about, his understanding and knowledge of being able to grasp the playbook quickly, his teammates respect him so much. I just love what he’s gonna bring to this city.

“You look at when Cam came into Carolina and the environment that was surrounded around Cam and how the atmosphere was so electric—I feel that same kind of electricity with Bryce Young right now. It’s debatable to see if he can bring what Cam brought to the team. But I just think the sky’s the limit for this kid because he wants to be great and you can see it.”

The expectations are already high enough for this year’s first overall selection . . . because, ya know, it comes with the territory. But when you’re talking Cam in Charlotte, that’s another tough terrain to navigate through—and it’s actually something that Young seems more than prepared to do.
