The Mandalorian: What happened in The Book of Boba Fett with Mando and Baby Yoda?

Let’s help you if you didn’t see The Book of Boba Fett.

Grogu and bounty hunter Din Djarin (portrayed by the great Pedro Pascal) are back on March 1 when Season 3 of The Mandalorian debuts on Disney+.

If you didn’t watch The Book of Boba Fett (yes, he’s alive), then it’s been a while since you’ve seen Mando and his cute little green buddy. The final episode of Season 2 of the Disney+ Star Wars show was released on Dec. 18, 2020. And that episode – directed by Ant-Man’s Peyton Reedwas a banger (even if it was a bit predictable) featuring one of our favorite original lightsaber-wielding heroes.

But a lot has happened since then. The latter part of The Book of Boba Fett essentially turned into Season 2.5 of The Mandalorian. While Boba was busy hanging out with Tusken Raiders and taking over Tatooine, Din and Grogu went through some significant things too.

To catch you up, here’s everything that has happened to Din, Grogu and their friends since the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian.

If you haven’t watched The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett, spoilers are ahead.

The Mandalorian allegedly ‘repurposed’ concepts from Star Wars 1313

This is the way.

A game developer claims that The Mandalorian  and The Book of Boba Fett  allegedly took ideas from Star Wars 1313.

After some new gameplay footage of Star Wars 1313  leaked online on Wednesday, game developer Grant Parker took some time to comment on the long-canceled Star Wars  project.

“A lot of excellent early concept stuff from [Star Wars 1313] has been repurposed and used in The Mandalorian  and The Book of Boba Fett, ” Parker explains on Twitter. “I was so happy the latest episode even had a meat locker with Tauntaun in it.”

Parker, who works as a designer at Insomniac Games on first-party Sony titles like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart  and Marvel’s Wolverine, was pleased to see his old work resurface in the most unlikely of places. Who wouldn’t be with how popular The Mandalorian  is!

“I did some early pre-pro work on a bar in this section and some of the planning for a meat factory (you see the hanging Tauntaun carcasses),” Parker said  on Twitter. “It was the first professional-level design work I ever did. It was very important to me. Happy to see it again.”

Most of Star Wars 1313  disappeared years ago following  its 2013 cancellation. Parker doesn’t elaborate much on what those lifted concepts might be, but this is an interesting tidbit nonetheless.

No, Gina Carano was not fired for being conservative

She was fired for antisemitism, transphobia and promoting baseless conspiracy theories.

MMA icon and actress Gina Carano was fired from the Disney+ show “The Mandalorian” earlier this week after sharing an anti-Semitic social media post.

On Wednesday, Lucasfilm announced that Carano, who played the popular Cara Dune, was no longer employed by the company.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

That post, which has since been deleted, compared the treatment of conservatives and Republicans to that of Jewish people during the Holocaust.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views”

Whether or not the Nazi Germany post meets a personal bar for antisemitism is something others can quibble over, but at the very least, it was a really dumb, incredibly offensive and totally thoughtless thing to share. This isn’t the first vile social media post Carano has made. In the past, Carano has tweeted election fraud claims, made transphobic jokes and mocked mask mandates.

Carano’s firing has set off a predictable firestorm, with the political right rending their garments over another perceived victim of “cancel culture,” claiming that she was fired for her conservative beliefs. But, Carano wasn’t fired for being conservative, unless conservatism is now directly aligned with antisemitism, transphobia and baseless conspiracy. Just because these views are commonly held beliefs” within the Republican party these days doesn’t mean any employer can and should tolerate them. Simply labeling them as “conservative” doesn’t give anyone a pass.

Carano is the epitome of a right wing social media  s*** poster, engaging in the worst kind of baseless rhetoric and crying foul once she’s held accountable for it. In other posts, Carano has said that people shouldn’t expect to align politically with everyone they meet, yet that is hardly the issue here. What Carano shared weren’t mere differences of opinion over policy, but deeply offensive and factual incorrect statements that no one should stand behind. Just because Carano’s beliefs are gaining wider acceptance, doesn’t make them right and certainly doesn’t guarantee her a job.

“I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob,” Carano said announcing a collaboration with Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Caller. “I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

Carano can believe what she wants, she can join the legions of QAnon nuts who cleve onto whatever latest conspiracy is blowing up their Facebook feed, or dive deeper into narratives of imagined persecution, and she can post all of it on her social media accounts. She can label all of it as “conservatism,” but she can’t be surprised when her employer decides that enough is enough, and one too many crackpot things have come out of her mouth. Hollywood has tossed promising careers away for far less and Disney doesn’t need to waste any more time on such a mediocre actress.

Carano didn’t lose her job because she’s conservative. She got fired because the garbage coming out of her mouth shouldn’t be tolerated, not even in a tweet.

The Mandalorian’ season finale needed to be more ambitious than it was

Nerd rant, incoming.

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT There are spoilers ahead in this piece. If you have not — I repeat: HAVE NOT — watched episode 8 of The Mandalorian yet, stop reading right now.

The season finale of The Mandalorian served its purpose. It was very good and put a cap on what was, overall, a pretty fantastic season. Any fan of Star Wars lore should walk away from season two satisfied.

This season had everything. It connected old characters with the new. It dug deep into the lesser-known parts of Star Wars’ lore. It finally gave us origin stories for our two main characters in Grogu (Baby Yoda) and Din Djarin (Mando).

This final episode was also good. And there are lots of things to look forward to for next season. But still, it’s easy to be left unfulfilled after it.

Let’s talk about it.

A familiar face saves the day

So, at the end of the episode, our heroes are on the edge. The droid Dark Troopers are banging on the doors of the bridge where our heros are ready to overrun them. It’s Din Djarin, Bo-Katan, Baby Yoda and the rest of the squad. If these Dark Troopers get in, they’re all cooked.

But then, out of nowhere, an X-Wing pulls up. And you know what it means in Star Wars whenever an X-Wing pulls up — it’s Luke Skywalker and he’s here to save everyone.

And he does just that. Luke begins tearing through all of the Dark Troopers and it looks absolutely incredible. It gives you mad Darth Vader in Rouge One vibes, except he’s slicing droids instead of, well, people.

It’s a pretty epic scene and one of the best showings of Luke’s skill as a Jedi that we’ve seen. It was really cool to watch.

But, also, it was just so predictable.

Luke was the easy pick

We all knew that Baby Yoda was connecting with some Jedi out in the galaxy when he channeled the force at the ruins of a temple on Tortuga. We just didn’t know who it was.

Turns out, it was Luke. This makes a ton of sense. He is supposed to be the most powerful force user in the galaxy at this point. So, of course, he’ll feel Baby Yoda’s connection.

But what makes sense isn’t always the most interesting thing. There were a number of other ways they could’ve gone with this.

This was an opportunity for an Ezra Bridger return. Or maybe even a Cal Kestis sighting. Or maybe there’s a new and exciting character out there that we don’t even know about the universe can finally tap into!

Who knows? That’s what makes this series special.

Star Wars is bigger than the Skywalkers

There are so many more interesting characters with so many fascinating backstories to tap into. In eight episodes, we’ve seen a live-action Ahsoka Tano. We found out that Boba Fett was still alive. We’ve finally gotten Dark Troopers on screen. We even found out that Grand Admiral Thrawn is still alive.

The Mandalorian isn’t afraid to tap into the nerdier minutiae of the Star Wars extended universe and bring that to a bigger audience. There was a real opportunity to do that in the finale, but instead, we just got Luke again.

For once, it’d have been nice to not know where a scenario leads. For Star Wars to just go on a completely new path. Instead, we just got Luke Skywalker. And Luke is awesome. But we’ve seen Luke in six movies now.

This damper on the ending doesn’t sully the finale or the series. It was still fantastic. Let’s just hope they extend the universe even more next season.

Disney+ needs to drop episodes on Friday night or spoiler problems will ruin ‘Star Wars’, ‘Marvel’ shows

Disney+ is going to have a major problem if they don’t change the time they’re dropping shows.

The season finale of The Mandalorian dropped early Friday morning, and once again, the internet is a minefield of major spoilers. This isn’t the first time I’ve railed against people being selfish by tweeting out major plot points before the majority of the audience has had a chance to even wake up, but I now realize though that asking people to change their individual behavior is like asking Baby Yoda to stop eating unfertilized eggs. They simply can’t and won’t.

So, like many things, we need to work towards systemic change and that’s to get Disney to start dropping their new shows at a more reasonable viewing time.

Right now, Mandalorian episodes drop at 3am on Friday morning.  No one but the most dedicated fans are prioritizing early morning viewings. Still, it’s enough people that spoilers leak on line, and worst of all, start trending on social media.  Just take a glance at Twitter’s trends bar, which is impossible to ignore. All the muting in the world isn’t going to fix the platform itself littering the right rail of their desktop experience with Star Wars related trends. Now, I know people will say, just stay off social media, but that’s not doable, especially through the course of the entire season.

All Disney needs to do to fix this is spoiler problem to drop episodes on Friday nights, so people at least have a fighting chance to experience the show without knowing every little thing in advance.

Plus, there’s a major added benefit to dropping episodes at a time when more people are likely to engage in live viewing. Like HBO did with Game of Thrones, we could again experience the joy of a collective viewing experience. Right now, sports are really the only thing we all watch together and at the same time. The Mandalorian could have been the next big collective viewing phenomenon, but alas, it didn’t work out that.

It could be that Disney is afraid of their streaming service crashing if too many people try to access an episode at the same time. To that, I respectfully urge them to get their technical act together because I don’t want to have to be dealing with this mess when The Falcon and Winter Solider drops.

There’s a massive slate of Marvel and Star Wars shows coming that the platform announced just earlier this month. Many of them have been working under the cover of secrecy to keep plot points from leaking out. The element of surprise is huge, and Disney is risking blowing those massive reveals because they drop the episode in the middle of the night. Because of that, gifs are going to be flooding the internet long before most people actually see it, ruining all the careful planning that went into the making of the show.

Please, Disney+,  just drop episodes on Friday night! People will log on, they will watch and they will all tweet about how good it was, how bad it was or how surprising it was. And, best of all, they’ll be doing it together.

PSA: Watch all the way to the end of ‘The Mandalorian’ for a post-credits surprise

Ooooooo!

WARNING: THE MANDALORIAN SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU’VE WATCHED CHAPTER 16 OF SEASON 2.

Ready? OK.

I was almost one of the fans of The Mandalorian who stopped as the credits rolled on an awesome Season 2 Finale … but then I remembered: shows like this one like to sneak in some fun stuff at the very end.

So: WATCH UNTIL THE VERY END!

What happened, exactly? A scene featuring what used to be the headquarters of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine, with Bib Fortuna taking over as the head boss. Who should come down but Bobba Fett, who kills Fortuna and sits on a throne of sorts. Cut to “The Book of Boba Fett: Coming December 2021.”

What does that mean, exactly? Is that a spinoff, another Star Wars series coming in the near-future? A separate chapter of Season 3 of The Mandalorian?

If you’re a Boba Fett fan, you’ll be very happy.

‘The Mandalorian’ finale featured the most mind-blowing ending featuring (SPOILER)

WOW.

WARNING: MASSIVE THE MANDALORIAN SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU’VE WATCHED CHAPTER 16 OF SEASON 2.

Ready?

No seriously, ready?

OK.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

That’s all I’ve got after watching “Chapter 16: The Rescue,” in which Mando, Bo-Katan, Cara Dune, Boba Fett and the rest of the crew ultimately defeat Moff Gideon (and take possession of the Darksaber), save Baby Yoda Grogu and … a certain Jedi master comes to their aid and takes Grogu to train him.

That’s right. Luke Freakin’ Skywalker — a CGI version of it, but hey, they did it with Princess Leia in Rogue One and no one complained! — showed up, took down a bunch of Terminator-style Dark Trooper droids and asked Mando to hand over Grogu, which Mando does … but not before Mando takes off his mask to show the child his real face.

Now, look: I get that maybe you think this is leaning too hard into the main Star Wars universe, that bringing in CGI Luke is just a move to make the fans giddy. But The Mandalorian — set a few years after The Return of the Jedi — does inhabit that second trilogy universe. It’s the oldest rule of writing — show a gun in the first act, it’ll go off in the second. If you show a Jedi in Season 1, you’re pretty much guaranteed to see Luke in the second. And don’t we all want to know what’s going on with Luke between RotJ and The Force Awakens? I know I do.

So here you go: Luke. Got. Grogu.

Yes, that was an ‘Office Space’ Easter Egg in Chapter 15 of ‘The Mandalorian’

LOL!

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED CHAPTER 15 OF THE MANDALORIAN, STOP READING!

Ready? OK.

Hello, Mando. Whaaat’s happening? Yeah, we’re going to go ahead and throw a little wink to a movie outside the Star Wars universe into an episode of The Mandalorian and while it’s a little jarring, it’s still kind of funny.

Did you catch that little nod to Office Space that made its way into Chapter 15? It came from Bill Burr’s Mayfield, who breaks in with Mando to an imperial base to get something that will help our hero track down Moff Gideon and, of course, Baby Yoda Grogu.

In the middle of this base, Mayfield and Mando are pretending to be Imperial troops, when they’re stopped by an officer suspicious of them. Mayfield tries to drag Mando away as he says, “C’mon, let’s go fill out those TPS reports, so we can go recharge the power coils!”

TPS reports! As in …

People noticed!

A big character’s reappearance in ‘The Mandalorian’ has Star Wars fans freaking out

!!!!!!!!!!!!

WARNING: BIG SPOILER ALERT ABOUT THE MANDALORIAN COMING BELOW. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED CHAPTER 14 OF THE SERIES.

Ready?

Seriously ready?

OK.

“Chapter 14: The Tragedy,” the latest episode of The Mandalorian, was a rough one for Mando and Baby Yoda Grogu.

The latter was eventually taken by Moff Gideon after a huge fire fight, and the former not only lost the child who he’s been keeping safe all this time, but his ship — the Razor Crest — was blown up.

But Mando will have some help in getting Grogu back. Because, as we all figured out from the Season 2 premiere, none other than Boba Fett returned. In Season 1, there were also some clues.

But in Chapter 14, Boba’s return was blown wide open. First, his ship, Slave I, appeared.

Then, Boba told Mando he wanted his old armor back and eventually ended up with it … and the old Boba Fett was back.

Star Wars fans reacted appropriately:

Yep. Awesome. And now, as he told Mando, he’s going to help get Grogu back. So there’s more Boba in Boba’s old armor to come.
