LOOK: Ohio Stadium turns into golfing experience

The Shoe isn’t just for football. #GoBucks

For awhile, Ohio Stadium wasn’t just the home for the football team, as there was an outside track until 2001 when Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium opened up in 2001.

Since then, the Ohio State football home field has been just that, but this weekend there is another sport entering the building, golf. In a partnership with Upper Deck Golf, The Horseshoe has turned into a golf and football fans dream.

The upper deck has been modified to have tees that face the field, with targets on it as well. There are multiple challenges you can sign up for like a driving and putting challenge.

As you can see, outgoing Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith is taking advantage of this unique opportunity.

WATCH: Ohio Stadium stadium turf time lapse transformation

How do you like the new look now that it is completed? Here’s a time lapse video of the process of replacing the field turf inside Ohio Stadium. #GoBucks

When you turn on your high-definition streaming device this fall, we’re here to remind you that there will be a new look to the Ohio Stadium field turf. The program announced the replacement of the turf and even got some input from the fans, and the installation of the new green stuff has been completed.

There wasn’t a ton of fanfare over the replacement and new look, but the Ohio State Football Twitter account did share a time-lapse video of the old turf being transformed into the new, crisp look.

In case you missed it, we’re sharing it here with you. Watch as the old turf is ripped up, the ground prepared, and the new turf installed little by little until the finished product is complete.

This is great, but we can’t wait to see how this looks on our television sets and streaming devices under the bright lights against Notre Dame on September 3.

Ohio State begins installation of new field turn in Ohio Stadium

It won’t be long before we see the fresh new look of Ohio Stadium.

Ohio Stadium is getting a facelift as the new field turf installation has begun. The turf was last replaced prior to the 2014 season. A decision to replace the aging turf was made after players began losing their footing early last season. Fans also noted the fading scarlet resembling a shade of pink while watching on TV.

Fans were given the opportunity to submit designs for the new field and some of those designs… well, let’s just say fans are creative. Ultimately though, Ohio State chose to go a more traditional route with a few minor tweaks.

The biggest changes fans will see are the font used in the endzones, some striping at the goal posts, and two Buckeye leaves at each 35-yard line. Regardless of whether you love the new look or wish the OSU brass would’ve done more, The ‘Shoe will have a fresh look come fall.

Ohio State expects the turf installation to be completed by early July. When the new look is finished, we’ll be sure to give you a glimpse of the updated design.

Ohio State close to releasing new turf design for Ohio Stadium

Ohio State says fans have helped inspire the new field turf look which will be revealed soon.

Back in the fall, the field turf at Ohio Stadium got some publicity after fans noted a worn look. The turf was last replaced in 2014, but the scarlet was giving an almost pink vibe from our HD televisions. As a result, the Buckeye brass decided the brand needed to look good and announced the surface would be replaced in time for the 2022 season. But that’s not all, the university said that fans could submit ideas in the process.

Now, here we are. It was announced via Twitter that it’s almost time to reveal what the new design will look like. A collage of many of those designs was posted to the Ohio State Athletics Twitter account and all we can say is fans definitely got creative.

Some are hoping to go all Boise State and make the turf predominantly color-filled, while others tried to stick to a more traditional look. Many submitted designs included an outline of the state at midfield and buckeye leaves scattered throughout.

Ohio State has not given any indication as to what the new turf will look like, but it seems that the fans have helped the creative process and will use at least some elements of the submitted designs. Take a look below to see some of the fan renderings.

It’s hard to imagine that Ohio State would stray too much from a traditional look, but we do expect there to be some changes that will stick out. Of course with any change, some will love it, some will hate it, but one thing is for sure, there will be no shortage of opinions for either side.

Ohio State seeking input from fans for new field turf in Ohio Stadium

Want to get in on the act when it comes to helping design the new field turf inside the ‘Shoe for next season? You actually can!

Do you have a flair for design and love football? Have you ever looked at Ohio Stadium’s field turf design and thought that you could add a little “pop of color” to it?

If so, you are in luck because the fine folks at Ohio State are looking for fan input for the field turf design for next season. The program already announced the plans to install new field turf for the start of the 2022 season after many questioned the condition of the playing surface, and now it looks like some creativity might be in order for the next design.

Ohio State first went to field turf for the 2007 season and has had the same design ever since, including the last time the turf was replaced in 2014.

If you’d like to submit ideas, you can do so on on the team’s website from Friday, October 15, through Friday, October 29. After that time period, an internal department panel will review the submitted designs and ultimately create the new look of the field.

Submissions can be made in the form of photographs or PDFs. Children are also encouraged to have fun with the design and submit their ideas as well. Downloadable templates are also included at the link above.

Lastly, some fan submissions will be shared on social media from the official Ohio State athletics accounts: @OhioStAthletics on Twitter and Instagram and Facebook/buckeyes, so keep an eye out.

We can’t wait to see what the final product is. Maybe a big, crossed-out M could adorn the middle of the field, no?
