Why Texas Will Win

Be shocked if this isn’t the Bijan Robinson show.

5 was held to just 29 yards on 12 carries in the tough loss to TCU last week and now he’ll bust out against a Kansas defense that’s been a tad rough against the run allowing 260 yards or more in three of the last four games.

Robinson was on a roll going into the showdown against the Horned Frogs – over 100 yards in seven straight games – and now the big runs should come.

Kansas can’t come up with third down stops, it’s not generating anything in the backfield, and …

Bowl Projections

Why Kansas Will Win

The Kansas offense continues to roll.

Star QB Jalon Daniels is trying to work his way back into the mix – he’s questionable for this – but the O has been keeping up the production with close to 1,100 yards over the last two weeks with Devin Neal running every bit as well as Robinson has.

The 224-yard day against Oklahoma State was the breakout performance, and he followed it up with 190 yards against Texas Tech.

The Texas defense has been okay against the run, it’s been getting hammered lately through the air – the TCU loss aside – and at home, the Jayhawks should be balanced enough to move however it needs to.

What’s Going To Happen

It might not be the wild and crazy 57-56 game of last year – at Kansas win – but there’s a chance it isn’t far off.

This is fun time for Kansas. It’s bowl eligible, it’s the last home game of the season, and next week it’s the rivalry game against Kansas State. It’s going to let it all loose with a huge day from the offense.

This is desperation time for Texas. It’s bowl eligible, but that’s not nearly good enough in a disappointing 6-4 season so far.

The Longhorns will have a little more offense down the stretch, but Kansas will make this a whole lot of fun.

Why Texas Will Win

The Longhorns survived a thriller over Texas Tech with clutch late free throws and a few key stops in the 67-66 win. It wasn’t a normal Texas game, there were way too many mistakes and missed opportunities, but that was as much of a survive and advance game as it gets.

That makes it four straight wins for the Longhorns – all away from Austin – with the team shooting well both from inside and out. It might have seemed like a grind in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinal, but the Red Raiders can D up.

The Longhorns won both games against Kansas, but …

Why Kansas Will Win

The Jayhawks are playing well at just the right time.

No, this isn’t the crushing and killing force that last year’s team was, but it has grown as the season has gone on, winning eight games in the last nine – the lone misfire in overtime to Texas – including a 69-62 win over Oklahoma in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals.

Even though there are issues, this is still the best rebounding team in the conference and should be able to offset the Longhorn normal advantage in offensive boards. The defense is forcing a ton of mistakes and Texas has a whole slew of issues giving the ball away.

What’s Going To Happen

Texas ripped through Kansas 84-59 in early January when the Jayhawks couldn’t make a thing, and got by a few weeks ago 75-72 even though it couldn’t hit anything from three.

Can Texas really beat Kansas three times in a Big 12 season? Because it’s good enough on the boards to get by – if not win the rebounding margin – then yes.

It’ll be a terrific back-and-forth slugfest.

Texas (5-2) vs Kansas (0-7) Game Preview

Why Texas Will Win

Very, very, very, very, very quietly, Texas is on a three game winning streak including a terrific victory over Oklahoma State on the road to stay in the hunt for the Big 12 championship.

So how is this happening? The run defense has been great, the offense has come up with a slew of timely plays, and the defensive is generating enough tackles for loss to be a bother. Most of all, Texas is winning the turnover margin and hasn’t turned it over in the last two games – it’s not going to give Kansas a slew of breaks.

Why Kansas Will Win

The Texas offense isn’t exactly clicking.

The team has a way of playing up or down to the competition, there isn’t enough of a steady running game to be a concern, and the passing attack hasn’t hit 200 yards in the last few weeks.

Kansas is okay at controlling the clock and slowing things down. If it can speed up the game and keep Texas from hitting the explosive plays, it can keep it close at home.

What’s Going To Happen

Kansas is WAY overdue for one of its patented big performances out of the blue, but the team isn’t showing anything lately defensively in blowout loss after blowout loss.

The Texas D isn’t a brick wall, but it’s playing well enough to keep the Jayhawk offense that hasn’t scored more than 17 points in five of the last six games under wraps.
