March Madness: Texas Tech vs. Duke odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Texas Tech vs. Duke odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions, best bets.

The No. 3 seed Texas Tech Red Raiders (27-9) and the No. 2 seed Duke Blue Devils (30-6) meet Thursday for a West Region Sweet 16 game of the NCAA Tournament. Tip-off from Chase Center in San Francisco is scheduled for 9:39 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Texas Tech vs. Duke odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Red Raiders belted Montana State 97-62 in the opening game before sneaking by Notre Dame 59-53 in the second round. Texas Tech’s defense has allowed just 57.5 PPG in two NCAA Tournament games, even better than the team’s regular-season allowance of 60.2 PPG.

The Blue Devils snapped an 0-5 against the spread (ATS) skid with an impressive 85-76 win and cover against Michigan State in the second round. The Over is 4-1 in five postseason games for Duke, while going 9-2 across its last 11 games overall.

Texas Tech vs. Duke odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Duke 72, Texas Tech 68

Money line

DUKE (-105) is looking to continue the career of legendary Coach Mike Krzyzewski, and the Blue Devils find themselves as short ‘dogs in Frisco. The Texas Tech is stout defensively, but the Blue Devils have the offensive weapons with F Paolo Banchero and F Wendell Moore, Jr. to get it done and move along to the Elite 8.

Against the spread

DUKE +1.5 (-122) is a much better value on the money line unless you’re dead-set on thinking Texas Tech is going to win this game by 1 point.

Over/Under

The OVER 137.5 (-110) is the lean, ever so slightly.

The trends all point to the Under for the defensive-minded Red Raiders. The Under is 4-1 in their last five as favorites and 8-3 in their last 11 NCAA Tournament games.

However, the Blue Devils have cashed the Over in seven of their last eight games overall and in four straight as underdogs. I like the disrespect card here, as Duke gets the straight-up win, and enough offense to push this one Over the finish line.

The Red Raiders humbled Montana State 97-62 Friday in opening-round action, easily cashing the Over. The second round was more challenging, as TTU edged Notre Dame 59-53 Sunday as the Under hit and the Red Raiders failed to cover as an 8-point favorite.
