A former Texas A&M football player who departed from the program after the 2022 season is returning to the Lone Star State via the NCAA Transfer Portal to play at another university.

Junior defensive lineman Tunmise Adeleye recently transferred from Michigan State to Texas State. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound pass rusher graduated in 2021 from Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. He was rated a 5-star recruit by Rivals and a 4-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN.

Adeleye redshirted in College Station during his true freshman season. As a sophomore, he started in the first two games of the campaign and played in three total contests for the Aggies and former coach Jimbo Fisher.

On Sept. 3, 2022, Adeleye made his collegiate debut against Sam Houston, recording 1 tackle. He tallied 5 tackles (4 solo) and 3 quarterback hits the following week versus Appalachian State. Adeleye also made an appearance on Oct. 22 at South Carolina.

Adeleye played in six games for the Spartans during the 2023 season. He racked up 9 tackles (4 solo), 1 sack and 1 forced fumble. The redshirt junior has two years of eligibility remaining.

Texas State Bobcats College Football Preview 2021: Offense

The offense started to work. The Bobcat attack that struggled to get to 221 points in 2019 hit the 300 point mark for the first time since 2015, scoring 332 points averaging 28 and 370 points per game. The passing attack improved, but the ground game could use more work with ten starters expected back.

The Bobcats played around with the quarterback situation a bit last year. Tyler Vitt and Brady McBride combined to throw for close to 2,900 yards with 26 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions, but on the way is Ty Evans from NC State to provide a push. McBride was the best option as last year went on, but it’ll be a battle for the gig.

The big plays should be there for the passing game, starting with junior Marcell Barbee, who caught 584 yards and ten scores averaging 14.6 yards per catch.

Jah’Marae Sheread entered the transfer portal after finishing third on the team in receptions, and second-leading target Jeremiah Haydel is done, but a whole lot of parts are coming in from the portal to help right away.

The offensive line gets four starters back and brings in a ton of parts from the transfer portal. The tackle combination of Russell Baker and Dalton Cooper were good enough to get All-Sun Belt recognition, but the group has to be better for the ground attack.

Leading rusher Brock Sturges is back after running for 532 yards and five scores, but smallish-speedy Calvin Hill who ran for 528 yards and five scores averaging over five yards per carry. 200-pound former Oklahoma State transfer Jahmyl Jeter adds even more pop to the mix.

No one knows what’s going to happen to the 2020 college football season. We’ll take a general look at where each team stands – doing it without spring ball to go by – while crossing our fingers that we’ll all have some well-deserved fun this fall. Hoping you and yours are safe and healthy.

5. College Football News Preview 2020: Texas State Bobcats Offense 3 Things To Know

Fast, fast, fast. The idea of the offense in the first year under head coach Jake Spavital was to keep things moving. It sort of worked at times, but it was the third straight year the offense went down in total production.

It averaged just 318 yards and 18.4 points per game with no ground game and not enough of a downfield passing threat to make up for it.

The offense has to settle on a quarterback. Gresch Jensen threw for 1,291 yards and five scores with six picks, and now he’s in the transfer portal. Tyler Vitt is back after leading the way with 1,590 yards and 11 scores and 14 touchdowns, but he’ll have to push to get the gig back. In comes Memphis transfer Brady McBride who sat out last season, but has the all-around skill set to be what the O needs.

The receiving corps should be better. Leading receiver Hutch White is gone, but the combination of Trevis Graham and Javen Banks is big and can produce – they each came up with four scores.

Most of the top targets are back from a young, young corps, and ready to roll is Washington State transfer Drue Jackson. Wake Forest transfer Waydale Jones and Iowa State Tory Spears are huge targets.

The offensive line was an issue in pass protection and did next to nothing for the ground game. To be fair, TXST was down so early so often that it had to crank up the passing attack to get back into the game. The interior of the line is expected back, but the tackles have to be replaced – getting JP Urquidez from Texas helps.

The running backs need to show up. Caleb Twyford is really a receiver, but he led the team with 488 rushing yards and a score. Robert Brown is the leading returning running back with just 161 yards and a score, but Arizona State transfer Brock Sturges is the likely No. 1 guy, with Air Force transfer Marquis Brown and Oklahoma State transfer Jahmyl Jeter eventually providing a little depth.
