Everything Coach Jim Schlossnagle had to say after the 7-4 win over Texas Southern

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle had to say after win over Texas Southern

Texas A&M (13-0) was in trouble early but came up clutch late off the bats of a few transfers to defeat Texas Southern (4-10) 7-4 for a comeback win at Blue Bell Park on Wednesday night.

There was a lot of fingernail biting in the seats at Blue Bell as the night rolled on. Riding high off beating the Texas Longhorns the night before this was seen as another tune-up game. Coach Jim Schlossnagle has been around this game for a long time and he knows it can be very unforgiving at times. Even though this was a stressful game he sees it as a good learning opportunity for the squad.

“Winning is hard man and continuing to win in this sport is even harder and that’s what I just told the team like the game can’t be played with tension and as soon as we don’t score some runs early against you know in this game against Texas Southern tension, tension, tension and it’s a good lesson for us to learn”

Below, you can watch the full post-game presser with Coach Schlossnagle.

General Stats:

  • Total offense:  5 hits, 7 runs
  • Pitching: Josh Stewart: W (1-0): 1.1 innings, 5 Ks, 28 pitches. Isaac Morton: 2.1 innings, 7 Ks, 55 pitches. Brad Rudis: 2.2 innings, 2 Ks, 30 pitches. Weston Moss: 1.0 innings, 1 Ks, 16 pitches. Zane Badmaev: 0.1 innings, 1 Ks, 15 pitches. Brock Peery: 1.0 innings, 2 Ks, 19 pitches. Peyton Smith: 0.1 innings, 0 Ks, 9 pitches.

Texas A&M will have a quick turnaround and will host Rhode Island in a three-game series starting on March 8 at 6 p.m.

UTSA vs Texas Southern Game Preview

Why Texas Southern Will Win

The Tigers have a good enough rushing offense to matter.

The’ve come up with with six interceptions so far in the three games, and the secondary hasn’t allowed too much through the air, but it’s the ground attack that needs to take over with a few good options to choose from.

For all of the good things UTSA is doing, it’s having a hard time coming up with third down stops, it’s allowing 39 points per game, and  the run D is allowing 206 yards per game. But …

CFN Expert Picks, Week 4

Why UTSA Will Win

Texas Southern isn’t Army running the ball.

It’s not Texas or Houston, either.

Texas Southern is a well-earned break for a UTSA that fought the good fight over the first three games and should be 2-1 right now.

Frank Harris continues to be among the best relatively unknown quarterbacks in the country, The UTSA ground attack that hasn’t been able to break free so far shouldn’t have much of a problem, and turnovers haven’t been an issue.

10 Best Predictions Against the Spread

What’s Going To Happen

Texas Southern will bring the effort and have enough pop to put some points on the board, but the UTSA offense will go off in the first half and cruise in the second.

Again, after the first three games, the Roadrunners deserve this.

North Texas vs Texas Southern Game Preview

Why Texas Southern Will Win

The Tigers were able to keep up for a while in the 40-23 loss to Prairie View A&M, but it couldn’t handle the running game. However, there’s a nice rotation of runners to give North Texas a few problems.

The Mean Green couldn’t do much to slow down SMU in last week’s 48-10 loss, and the offense hasn’t been able to open it up on the ground yet. It hasn’t been bad, but it’s not going to come up with the big, gashing runs that crushes Texas Southern.

CFN Expert Picks, Week 2

Why North Texas Will Win

The Tiger defense won’t be able to come up with enough stops to overcome the struggles on offense.

North Texas might not have been able to hold up against SMU’s O, but the attack has the parts to throw better, the D was terrific in the win over UTEP, and now it should all work against the porous Texas Southern defensive front.

No, the Mean Green haven’t been able to crank up the big runs yet, but …

Week 2 Schedule, Predictions, Game Preview

What’s Going To Happen

They’re about to come this week.

The North Texas offense has the parts to be a problem for everyone in the Conference USA race, and this is when they all get to show what they can do. Texas Southern will come up with a few scores, but it won’t have a prayer of keeping up after the first quarter.
