LSU hosting 5-star WR Boobie Feaster for South Alabama game

The Tigers will play host to the No. 4 prospect in the 2027 class on Saturday.

When LSU faces South Alabama at Tiger Stadium in Week 5 on Saturday night, it will have a big-time 2027 recruit in town.

According to Marshall Levenson of Rivals, five-star 2027 receiver Ethan “Boobie” Feaster will take an unofficial visit for the non-conference matchup. Feaster, who hails from DeSoto, Texas, is the No. 4 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite.

Feaster has quite a few high-profile offers, including one from the Tigers. The sophomore is early in his high school career, but he’s already one of the most coveted prospects in the country. LSU currently holds no commitments in the 2027 class.

SMU is currently the slim favorite to land Feaster per the On3 recruiting prediction machine, but it’s still very early in his recruitment with plenty of time for that to change.

Where LSU stands for No. 1 safety Jonah Williams days before his commitment

LSU has made Jonah Williams a priority this summer, but the Tigers seemingly have some ground to make up here.

LSU already has a top-three class in the 2025 recruiting cycle, but it really has the chance to take things up a notch on Saturday.

Jonah Williams, a five-star recruit from Ball (Galveston, Tex.) and the No. 1 safety in America, is set to announce his decision with the Tigers as a finalist alongside Texas A&M, Texas, Oregon and USC.

LSU has long made Williams a top priority, hosting him for an official visit in June where he was also recruited by the baseball staff. The two-sport star is expected to play baseball wherever he ultimately signs.

The Tigers had some momentum at one point, but now, it looks as though they have some ground to make up. Texas A&M holds a trio of crystal balls for the No. 10 player in America from 247Sports, while Texas is a 54.5% favorite to land him according to On3.

It would be a bit of a surprise at this point if Williams commits to LSU, but coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the staff continue to push hard down the stretch to land another elite defensive back as it already has a commitment from No. 1 cornerback [autotag]DJ Pickett[/autotag].

Down 2 running backs, Texas considers position changes to bolster RB corps

With injuries to CJ Baxter and now Christian Clark, Texas is considering position changes to add depth to running back corps.

Last week, the Longhorns lost starting running back CJ Baxter to a season ending knee injury. This week, it’s Christian Clark. The freshman RB suffered what has been described as “a serious lower leg injury” during Monday’s practice.

Late Tuesday, University of Texas officials announced Clark suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the 2024 season.

Before Clark’s injury even happened, the Longhorns coaching staff were considering other options at running back. “We’re looking at some different options, and I think we’re looking at it creatively, whether it’s a couple of guys on the offensive side of the ball, a potential player on the defensive side of the ball, or two, for that matter,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said Monday. ” … So we’re kind of taking it day by day again. We’ve got plenty of time. We’re just trying to get a sense and a feel of how, not only will they play on offense at the runner, but how does that impact us at other positions if we take a player.”

Clark wasn’t expected to be the primary replacement for Baxter. That duty will fall to junior Jaydon Blue. Blue was named to the Paul Hornung Award watch list last week, which is handed out annually to the nation’s most versatile player.

Texas has also brought in two running backs in each of the last two recruiting classes. Behind Blue, Sarkisian can turn to Quintrevion Wisner and Jerrick Gibson.

But with the loss of Clark, it’s depth at RB that has the Longhorns staff concerned. Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods reports that the coaching staff is considering moving freshman WR Ryan Niblett to running back.

Niblett is a redshirt freshman from Aldine Eisenhower in Houston. A 2023 All-American Bowl participant, Niblett was ranked No. 77 nationally, No. 12 among wide receivers and No. 16 overall in the state of Texas by Rivals. As a senior at Eisenhower, he caught 55 passes for 1,088 yards and 10 TD with an average of 108.8 receiving yards per game.

Coaches are also considering moving linebacker Derion Gullette to running back. Gullette played some offense in high school and is already taking snaps at RB at Longhorns practice. Texas’ depth at LB makes Gullette possibly more valuable on offense. Gullette could take on the roll of short-yardage power back.

Gullette, another redshirt freshman, went to high school at Teague in Marlin, TX. The former 4-star recruit starred at RB, but was also named first-team 3A All-State as both a WR and punter.

Another name being considered is safety Jelani McDonald. Out of Connally High School in Waco, McDonald was was a 4-star recruit ranked No. 204 nationally, No. 6 among athletes and No. 35 overall in the state of Texas by Rivals.

Playing on both slides of the ball, he was named the 11-4A Division 2 offensive MVP after running the ball 77 times for 852 yards and nine touchdowns and posting four separate games of 100 yards rushing.

2025 recruiting and why Texas moved up in the rankings

A big commitment this week has moved the Longhorns up four sports in ESPN’s rankings, from 18 to 14 overall. Texas landed one of 2025’s top wide receivers in Kaliq Locket.

Texas has been lagging behind its rivals in the 2025 team recruiting rankings for months. Boasting an already deep roster, the Longhorns worked the transfer portal hard this year to replenish its skill positions.

But a big commitment this week has moved the Horns up four sports in ESPN’s rankings, from 18 to 14 overall. Texas landed one of 2025’s top wide receivers in Kaliq Locket.

Locket ranks 23rd overall in the class and fourth among receivers in ESPN’s rankings. 247 ranks the Sachse High School star as the No. 2 WR in the country and No. 12 overall player.

As a junior, the 6’2, 180 pound wide out had 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns. ESPN says, “Locket gives the Longhorns a target with nice length and good speed with the leaping ability to go up and attack the football and win battles for contested balls.”

“Lockett was a big in-state win as one of top offensive players in the Lone Star state; he is a rangy receiver with good speed that also attacks the ball and can high point and win contested matchups.”

Texas now has commitments from 17 players in the 2025 class, including nine from the ESPN Top 300. Locket is the highest ranked of the group, that includes QB K.J. Lacey. Haubert says, “The Longhorns didn’t sign an ESPN 300 quarterback in 2024, but K.J. Lacey is one of the more promising signal-callers in the 2025 class. He lacks ideal size at 5-11 and 180 pounds, but he throws a good deep ball, can create and also change arm angles. He threw for over 3,000 yards and 42 touchdowns as a junior.”

Defensive lineman Lance Jackson is Texas’ top defensive commit. Haubert says, “Jackson has coveted size and frame for the position. He could be a disruptive player in the trenches with good initial quickness and agility. Smith Orogbo is an edge defender with an explosive first step, active hands and very good range.”

PHOTOS: Texas backup QB Arch Manning in fall practice

Check out the latest photos of Texas backup QB Arch Manning during fall practice.

Arch Manning might be the most famous backup in college football. The newest Manning family quarterback, Manning starts his second year in the Texas program.

Nephew to Peyton and Eli, grandson to Archie and son of Cooper, Arch represents the third generation of Manning QBs. He played high school football at Isidore Newman in New Orleans, where he was the first freshman starting QB at the school in 40 years. He went on to start all four seasons at Isidore Newman.

Manning’s family tried to limit the media frenzy that accompanied Arch’s recruiting process. Arch didn’t do media interviews and ran a private Instagram account for just coaches and close friends.

He took visits to Texas, SMU, Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Virginia and Ole Miss. The 6-foot-4 quarterback committed to the Longhorns on June 23, 2022, and signed his letter of intent on Dec. 21, 2022.

An early enrollee, Manning played in the 2023 spring game. He entered the season third on the depth chart, behind returning starter Quinn Ewers and Maalik Murphy. He made his college debut on Nov. 24, 2023 during the third quarter of a blowout win against Texas Tech, completing 2-of-5 passing attempts for 30 yards.

Manning enters his second year on campus as the second string backup to Ewers. Murphy transferred to Duke.

LSU basketball makes the cut for top 50 center

The Tigers made the cut for another top prospect in the 2025 class.

LSU made the cut for yet another top target on the board in the 2025 basketball recruiting class.

The Tigers are still looking for their first commitment in the cycle, but they made the top five for four-star, top-50 center [autotag]Jaden Toombs[/autotag] as he trimmed down his list. They’re joined by Alabama, Miami, SMU and Texas Tech.

LSU seemingly has some ground to make up with the Dallas prospect, who officially visited Texas Tech last September and has upcoming official visits set with Alabama, Miami and SMU. The Mustangs are considered the slight favorite with the Red Raiders not far behind according to the On3 recruiting prediction machine.

We’ll see if LSU can close the gap here despite not getting him on campus for an official visit.

Recent LSU DL commit Zion Williams sees big boost in On3’s recruiting rankings

Zion Williams previously ranked outside the top 300, but he surged all the way up to No. 86 nationally in On3’s recent update.

It was a busy holiday week on the recruiting trail for LSU, which added a trio of commitments in [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Brown[/autotag] (who flipped from Texas) and [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag].

Williams was previously the lowest-rated player in that group, but he’s seen a big boost in On3’s latest rankings update. Previously considered a three-star prospect who sat outside the top 300 nationally, Williams is now a four-star who ranks No. 86 in America.

With that rapid rise, he has now climbed to No. 237 in the On3 industry rankings. On3’s own rankings, however, are the highest on the 2025 Lufkin, Texas, prospect of any service.

LSU’s class previously ranked as high as No. 1 but has taken some recent hits. It’s rising back up with these latest additions, however, and now ranks No. 6 in the cycle per 247Sports and No. 5 per On3.

LSU lands 2025 4-star defensive lineman Zion Williams

Brian Kelly and the LSU football recruiting staff are starting off July 4 with some fireworks of their own.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the [autotag]LSU football recruiting[/autotag] staff are starting off July 4th with some fireworks of their own. This morning the Tigers landed a commitment from a four-star defensive lineman from Lufkin, Texas.

[autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag] is a 6-foot-4, 295-pound, four-star defensive lineman from Lufkin, Texas, where he plays for Lufkin High School. He chose the Tigers over Texas, TCU and Texas A&M. The Tigers were a 96% favorite to land him per On3 and they had received multiple crystal ball projections to land him. The only thing left was to seal the deal and Kelly and his staff did just that.

Williams becomes the 13th commitment of the 2025 recruiting class. The class is currently ranked as the No. 8 overall class by 247Sports and is headlined by five-star quarterback [autotag]Bryce Underwood[/autotag]. He is the first defensive lineman commitment of the class. The 2025 class keeps getting better and the Tigers are nowhere close to being done.

Former 5-star LSU receiver commit Dakorien Moore to make decision on Thursday

The Tigers are still in the mix for Dakorien Moore, who decommitted back in May.

LSU already had one top target making a decision on July 4 in four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag], and now he’ll be joined by the top receiver prospect on the board.

Five-star receiver [autotag]Dakorien Moore[/autotag], the top wideout and No. 3 overall player in America, is set to choose between LSU, Texas, Oregon and Ohio State. Moore was previously committed to the Tigers, pledging back in August, though he backed off that commitment in May.

Since then, Texas has been seen as the clear favorite, but LSU still has a shot to bring him back in the fold. It hosted him for an official visit on June 7 less than a month after he decommitted, and he’s also officially visited his other four finalists.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the decision from the Duncanville (Tex.) star will come at 8 p.m. CT. Moore isn’t the only top option LSU has at receiver as it is also pursuing [autotag]Jaime Ffrench[/autotag], a five-star receiver from Jacksonville, Florida, among others.

LSU logs another prediction for 4-star DL Zion Williams on the eve of his commitment

The Tigers picked up another prediction to land four-star Texas defensive lineman Zion Williams, who commits on Thursday.

Two of LSU’s top defensive line targets are set to make commitment decisions over the next 48 hours, and the Tigers seem to be in good shape for both of them.

First up is four-star Lufkin, Texas, defensive lineman [autotag]Zion Williams[/autotag], who is set to announce his commitment on July 4. The Tigers have been the favorite here for a while, holding three crystal ball predictions from 247Sports and several predictions from On3’s recruiting staff, as well.

Now, LSU Country’s Zack Nagy is also projecting that Williams, the No. 298 player nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings, will commit to the Tigers on Thursday.

TCU is also in the mix for Williams, and he recently officially visited the Horned Frogs as well as Arkansas and Texas A&M.

LSU seems to be in a position of strength for Williams, and if it can land him as well as top-100 EDGE [autotag]Damien Shanklin[/autotag], who commits Friday, it would be a massive addition to a 2025 recruiting class that is already verging on elite.
