Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Texas Rangers (10-9) and Detroit Tigers (10-8) clash in a Thursday matinee as they close out a 4-game set in the Motor City. First pitch is slated for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 2-1

A Josh Smith pinch-hit, RBI double in the top of the 9th vaulted Texas to a 5-4 win in Wednesday’s tilt. The 5 runs came after the Rangers had scored just 3 times over the 1st 2 games.

The Tigers won Tuesday’s game by breaking a 2-2 tie in the 8th. Four Detroit pitchers combined to scatter 6 singles and 1 walk.

Rangers at Tigers projected starters

RHP Jack Leiter vs. RHP Kenta Maeda

Leiter, the son of former MLB pitcher Al Leiter, will be making his Major League debut Thursday.

  • Leiter, who pitched at Vanderbilt, was the 2nd-overall pick in the 2021 draft
  • Off to a hot start at Triple-A Round Rock in 2024 after faltering in his 1st 2 pro seasons; owns a 3.77 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 25:3 K:BB in 14 1/3 IP
  • Last pitched April 12, filing 10 K against 0 BB in 6 IP vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate

Maeda (0-1, 6.00 ERA) is tabbed for his 4th start of the 2024 season. He has logged a 1.27 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 6.0 K/9 through 15 IP.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 5 K in 11-5 loss vs. Minnesota Twins Saturday
  • Career vs. Rangers: 2-0, 3.32 ERA (21 2/3 IP, 8 ER), 22 H, 10 BB, 17 K
  • Has been a slow starter throughout his career (.810 OPS allowed in March-April games)

  • Over/Under (O/U): 8.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Rangers at Tigers picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 5, Rangers 4

Moneyline

Maeda is coming off a solid start, and the veteran righty is backed by the better bullpen (although Detroit’s 1.70 ERA relief ERA has certainly been tamped down by a .199 batting average on balls in play). The Texas pen has thus far walked 3.9 batters per 9 and owns a shaky 4.96 ERA.

Leiter is a wild card, but I’m inclined to lean more on his 2-year control issues than his April, 2024. Still, some might consider going in small as far as unit size; I often apply that to any baseball betting when a new shooter is on the mound or when a hurler is short on innings and/or returning from injury.

BACK TIGERS (-110).

Run line/Against the spread

Better value on the RL: PASS.

Over/Under

The Detroit offense has been hemmed in by a 2-for-23 performance with runners in scoring position in this series.

The starting and bullpen pitching figures to skew toward fly-ball types, and a batter’s breeze is expected during game hours.

TAKE OVER 8.5 (-105).

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Texas Rangers (9-8) and Detroit Tigers (9-7) meet Tuesday for the 2nd game of a 4-game series. The opening pitch at Comerica Park is slated for 1:10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 1-0

Four Texas hurlers combined to scatter 5 hits and 5 walks in a 1-0 triumph in Monday’s series opener. Rangers pitching held the Tigers to an 0-for-8 mark with runners in scoring position.

Detroit opened its season with 5 straight wins, but the Bengals have gone just 4-7 since. That includes the club going 1-3 over its last 4 games

Rangers at Tigers projected starters

RHP Jon Gray vs. RHP Casey Mize

Gray (0-1, 4.38 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has registered a 1.78 WHIP, 5.1 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 in 12 1/3 innings.

  • Last outing: Loss, 5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 9 K in 1-0 loss vs. Oakland Athletics Thursday
  • Career vs. Tigers: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 0 B, 6 K in 1 start, a 7-0 road win June 17, 2022

Mize (0-0, 4.82 ERA) is tabbed for his 3rd start this season. He owns a 1.39 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 5.8 K/9 in 9 1/3 innings.

  • Last outing: No-decision, 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 2 K in 5-3 win at Pittsburgh Pirates last Tuesday
  • Career vs. Rangers: 0-0, 2.25 ERA (8 IP, 2 ER), 5 H, 0 BB, 4 K in 2 starts

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Rangers at Tigers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Tigers 3

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-120) are 3-1 across the last 4 series games and 3-1 over their last 3 contests at Comerica.

Gray is coming off a solid turn, albeit one against the hapless Athletics. He’s been a solid road hurler (3.87 ERA, 1.18 WHIP since 2022) and is facing a Detroit (+100) offense that owns all of a .600 OPS in its last 11 games.

BACK TEXAS (-120).

Run line/Against the spread

Another low-scoring game is the lean here. PASS on trying to push the Rangers through with a cushion.

Over/Under

According to OddsShark.com, the Under has hit in 11 of the last 16 meetings between these teams in Detroit.

Bullpens are in solid shape, and an inward breeze is expected in the weather forecast. Both offenses figure to be a tad too far out over their skis with their surface numbers. Not coincidentally, both have robust ball-in-play averages in clutch situations. Texas owns a .389 batting average on balls in play with runners in scoring position. Detroit has filed a .311 BABIP in that same split.

TAKE THE UNDER 8 (-105).

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Texas Rangers (34-19) and Detroit Tigers (25-27) meet Tuesday for the 2nd game of a 3-game set in the Motor City. First pitch at Comerica is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Texas leads 1-0

The Rangers took Monday’s series opener 5-0 and Texas is 5-1 with a 1.87 ERA over its last 6 games. In its last 16 road games, Texas is 12-4 with a 2.87 ERA.

Detroit’s offense had been going fine before being blanked on Memorial Day. The Tigers opened this current homestand by going 3-1 against the Chicago White Sox. They logged a .778 OPS over those 4 games.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Rangers at Tigers projected starters

LHP Martin Perez vs. RHP Alex Faedo

Perez (6-1, 3.83 ERA) is tabbed for his 11th start. He has a 1.47 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 56 1/3 innings.

  • Faces a Detroit club that has a .628 OPS in its last 10 home games
  • Current Tigers batters own a small-sample .979 OPS against him

Faedo (1-2, 4.15 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 0.74 WHIP, 0.4 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 in 21 2/3 innings.

  • Logged a 5.53 ERA in a 12-start rookie campaign a year ago
  • Enters this start after a pitch-count jump to 94 in his last effort (Thursday vs. Chicago White Sox)

Rangers at Tigers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 6, Tigers 5

Moneyline

Texas is the better club, and to its credit its support analytics mostly back its fast-start won-loss record. But the Tigers mirror that success on a smaller-scale, nothing-was-expected-from-this-team-that-lost-96-games-last-year basis.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

Detroit has played a lot of 1-run games and is the slight lean here. PASS for now, but if this line creeps to -135 on Detroit +1.5, that would make for some acceptable leverage.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Over is 5-1 in the last 6 series meetings.

Perez and Faedo are in a yellow-light fatigue zone after recent pitch counts. Both are fly-ball pitchers and figure to benefit from an inward breeze in this game, but Faedo’s fly-ball/barrel mix that may not play well against the  Rangers. Texas owns a high-contact .828 OPS over its last 12 games. The Rangers have pounded fly-ball types this season. And a warmed-up Comerica (temps in the 80s) somewhat counteracts the pitcher’s breeze.

Consider a partial-unit play on the OVER 9 (-105).

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (30-33) are in Comerica Park Friday for the 2nd of a 4-game series with the Detroit Tigers (24-39). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Texas stole the series opener 3-1 Thursday with a top of the 9th rally keyed by a 3-run RBI triple by Rangers 3B Ezequiel Duran. Thursday’s game was the 1st meeting of the season.

Rangers at Tigers projected starters

RHP Jon Gray vs. LHP Tarik Skubal

Gray is 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 in 52 IP over 10 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in Texas’s 8-6 win at the Chicago White Sox Sunday with 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 BB and 10 K.

Skubal is 5-3 with a 2.71 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 in 69 2/3 IP over 12 starts.

  • Last start: Lost 6-0 Sunday at home vs. the Toronto Blue Jays with 4 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 1 HR, 2 BB and 5 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Rangers: One start, a 4-1 home win July 20 with 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB and 4 K.

Rangers at Tigers picks and predictions

Prediction

Tigers 4, Rangers 3

Money line

BET TIGERS (-120) because they’ve been steamed up by sharp line movement and Detroit has the starting and relief pitching edge over the Rangers (+100).

The Tigers opened at even-money (+100) and have been bet up to the current number, according to Pregame.com.

Also, Detroit is 3-0 overall this season as favorites with Skubal on the mound and outscoring opponents 7.33-1.33 in those games.

Lastly, Detroit’s bullpen is low-key nasty despite blowing a save Thursday. The Tigers relievers are 4th in WAR, 5th in FIP and 3rd in home runs allowed per 9 innings, per FanGraphs.

BET TIGERS (-120).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Tigers -1.5 (+170) is a juicy payout but Detroit’s lineup cannot hit right-handed pitching and is 5-10 RL as home favorites. Whereas the Rangers +1.5 (-205) hit left-handed pitching very well and are 16-9 RL as road underdogs.

Over/Under

SPRINKLE on the UNDER 7.5 (+105).

More than 80% of the bets placed in the total market were on the Over 8.5 (+100) per Pregame.com so there’s a contrarian angle with the Under now at 7.5 (+105).

More importantly, the Rangers are 9-14-2 O/U as road underdogs and the Tigers are 4-9-2 O/U as home favorites and 4-7 O/U in Skubal’s 11 starts.

I wouldn’t hit the UNDER 7.5 (+105) hard though because Comerica Park is 4th in park factor aka extremely hitter-friendly and the Rangers are 7-3 O/U in Gray’s 10 starts.

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (29-33) and Detroit Tigers (24-38) open a 4-game series on Thursday night, their first meeting of the season. First pitch will be at 7:10 p.m. ET from Comerica Park in Detroit. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting. Detroit won 6 of 7 from Texas last season and outscored the Rangers 46-24.

The Rangers have lost their last 2 games, dropping a 3-game series to the Houston Astros. Just prior to those 3 losses, Texas won 3 straight, scoring 24 runs in that span.

The Tigers have lost 4 straight, getting swept in a 3-game series against the Chicago White Sox. They’ve been shut out in 2 of their last 4 games and have scored only 6 total runs in their last 4 games.

Rangers at Tigers projected starters

LHP Martin Perez vs. RHP Beau Brieske

Perez (4-2, 2.18 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.10 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 in 74 1/3 IP.

  • Rangers are 7-1 in Perez’s last 8 starts and have held their opponents to less than 4 runs in 6 of those games.
  • Had no-decision in Saturday win vs. White Sox, allowing 6 ER, 12 H, 2 BB and 4 K in 5 IP. He gave up just his 2nd HR of the season.

Brieske (1-5, 4.34 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 5.9 K/9 in 47 2/3 IP.

  • Tigers are 3-6 in his 9 starts this season, but they’ve given him very little run support, scoring more than 3 runs only 4 times in those 9 games.
  • Rookie got his 1st win Saturday vs. Toronto Blue Jays, pitching 5 2/3 shutout innings with 7 H, 0 BB and 2 K in Tigers’ 3-1 win.

Rangers at Tigers odds and lines

  • Money line (ML): Rangers -160 (bet $160 to win $100) | Tigers +130 (bet $100 to win $130)
  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Rangers -1.5 (+105) | Tigers +1.5 (-130)

Rangers at Tigers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, Tigers 2

Money line

Neither team is particularly hot right now, but the Tigers are really struggling, particularly at the plate. The Rangers are 7-1 in Perez’s last 8 starts and though he doesn’t strike out a lot of batters, he finds ways to keep opponents in check.

Bet the RANGERS (-160) to win outright on the road.

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for 20% OFF full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 6/30/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

The Rangers have the 3rd-best ATS record in MLB, covering in 37 of their 62 games so far. The Tigers are only 29-33 ATS, including a 14-21 mark at home.

The Tigers have dropped 4 straight ATS, so I like the RANGERS -1.5 (+105) to cover.

Over/Under

The Rangers and Tigers both rank in the bottom 6 in Over/Under record, with the total only going Over 50 times combined in their 124 games played. With the Tigers only scoring 6 runs in their last 4 games and Perez on the mound, I don’t see Detroit putting up many Thursday.

Bet the UNDER 8.5 (-115).

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (35-61) will try to avoid the sweep against the Detroit Tigers (46-51) as they conclude their four-game series Thursday at Comerica Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Mike Foltynewicz is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 2-9 with a 5.91 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 6.4 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 102 IP over 19 starts.

Foltynewicz got destroyed in his last start when he served up 10 ER and 4 homers in 1 2/3 IP against the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday. That bumped his road ERA up to 8.10 in eight starts this season with 15 home runs allowed in 40 IP (3.4 HR/9).

LHP Tyler Alexander is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. He is 1-1 with a 4.40 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 in 43 IP over three starts and 24 relief appearances.

Alexander tossed a season-high 3 1/3 IP in his last outing while surrendering 2 ER with just 1 strikeout. He has just a 5/4 K/BB across 10 2/3 IP in his last six appearances but has allowed just 3 ER thanks to a .188 BABIP.

  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers +1.5 (-160) | Tigers -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Rangers 7, Tigers 5

Money line (ML)

The Rangers come into the game on an eight-game losing skid and their 13-36 road record is 3rd worst in all of baseball.

However, they’ll be facing a starter with weak skills who isn’t likely to work deep into the game and he’ll be followed by a bullpen corps that is sporting the 4th highest ERA in the league.

Look for the RANGERS (+115) to come away with the win.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Either pitcher could get blown up in this one and there’s a good chance that it doesn’t end up being a one-run game when all is said and done. Laying -1.5 runs on either side makes sense, but a small play on the ALTERNATE RUN LINE of RANGERS -1.5 (+180) is the call here.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Rangers have struggled against lefties for most of the season, but the Over is 8-3 in their last 11 against a left-handed starter. Furthermore, Alexander isn’t a good lefty and he isn’t going to be in the game for long.

On the other side, Foltynewicz is coming off a brutal outing and hasn’t been effective on the road all year. Neither starting pitcher is likely to have a great deal of success so OVER 9 (-120) is the best play on the board in this game.

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (35-60) and Detroit Tigers (45-51) play the third game of a four-game set Wednesday at Comerica Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jordan Lyles is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 5-6 with a 5.20 ERA and 1.49 WHIP with 7.1 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 over 100 1/3 IP across 18 starts and one relief appearance.

Lyles was batted around for 6 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while serving up 4 home runs across 4 innings in a loss Friday against the Blue Jays in Buffalo. That outing stopped a three-game win streak for Lyles.

RHP Matt Manning is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. He is 1-3 with a 6.95 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 3.7 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 across 22 IP in five starts.

Manning surrendered 2 earned runs on 2 hits and 3 walks with 3 strikeouts across 5 innings in a loss July 9 at Minnesota his last time out.

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 8:55 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Tigers -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers -1.5 (+150) | Tigers +1.5 (-180)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Prediction

Tigers 8, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

The TIGERS (-115) are a decent play on their home field, as they look for their sixth consecutive victory. They have dominated the Rangers so far in this series by outscoring them 18-1 in the first two games.

Texas has had a power outage lately. The Rangers have plated just 3 total runs across their last five outings while averaging just 1.4 runs per game across their last eight.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

On the ALTERNATE RUN LINE the TIGERS -1.5 (+165) is a good play at plus money. Detroit has hit the run line in each of the five games during its win streak, including one time as a favorite on Tuesday.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 9 (-115) is the slight lean here. Texas may be having a difficult time scoring runs lately but the Tigers are having no such issues – they’ve scored a total of 40 runs across their last six outings. The Tigers pitching staff has yielded just 1 run in the last three games and 5 total runs in the last five.

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (35-59) try to bounce back from Monday’s blowout loss to the Detroit Tigers (44-51). They’ll meet again Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET in Comerica Park. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Dane Dunning is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 3-6 with a 4.22 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 9.7 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 79 IP over 17 starts.

Dunning hasn’t been working real deep into games but has been effective over his last three starts, during which time he has allowed just 3 ER in 14 IP with a 14/5 K/BB. This includes a start against Detroit last time out in which he gave up just one run in 5 IP.

LHP Tarik Skubal is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. He is 5-8 with a 4.36 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 in 88 2/3 IP over 18  appearances (16 starts).

Skubal has recorded a 3.72 ERA and 1.1 HR/9 at home this season, compared to 5.45 and 3.3 on the road. Over his last 10 starts, he has put up a 3.56 ERA and 12.0 K/9.

Rangers at Tigers odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Tigers -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers -1.5 (+150) | Tigers +1.5 (-185)
  • Over/Under: 9 (O: +100 | U: -120)

Prediction

Tigers 5, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

The Tigers come into this game with a 25-22 home record on the season. The Rangers have won just 13 road games all year, the third-lowest total in the league.

Skubal has put a slow start to the season in the rear-view and has been a much better pitcher at home this season. He also gets the benefit of facing an offense that is 27th in both OPS and wRC+ vs. lefties.

Back the TIGERS (-115).

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Rangers have lost their last five road games while being outscored 43-3 over that span, including a 14-0 loss to the Tigers Monday. That makes four straight wins for Detroit out of the break.

Look for them to extend the streak on Tuesday, and flip this run line around to TIGERS -1.5 (+165) ALTERNATE LINE.

Over/Under (O/U)

Texas has been shut out in each of their last three contests and will likely struggle to get much going against Skubal.

On the other side, Dunning has been pitching pretty well lately as well and should help prevent the Rangers from getting blown out again.

A small play on UNDER 9 (-120) is the recommendation.

Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Texas Rangers at Detroit Tigers odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Texas Rangers (35-58) and Detroit Tigers (43-51) play the opener of a four-game set Monday at Comerica Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rangers vs. Tigers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Kyle Gibson is the projected starting pitcher for the Rangers. He is 6-1 with a 2.29 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 7.8 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 over 102 IP across 17 starts.

Gibson faced the Tigers last time out coughing up five earned runs, eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts across 6 1/3 innings July 7 for his first loss of the season.

RHP Casey Mize is the projected starting pitcher for the Tigers. He is 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 across 95 1/3 IP in 17 starts.

Mize faced the Rangers last time out opposite Gibson on July 7. He allowed two earned runs on a pair of solo homers with four hits and two strikeouts across four innings in a no-decision.

Rangers at Tigers odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:40 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Rangers -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Tigers -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Rangers -1.5 (+145) | Tigers +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: 8 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Tigers 5, Rangers 2

Money line (ML)

The TIGERS (-105) are short ‘dogs at home, but they’ll take care of the Rangers (-115) in this series opener. The Texas offense was blanked in a pair of doubleheader games in Buffalo, N.Y., against Toronto. Now, they will face a Detroit pitching staff that shut out Minnesota 7-0 on Sunday and have two shutouts in the past three outings.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The TIGERS +1.5 (-175) are the play if you want some insurance and don’t think they can beat Gibson for a second consecutive outing. Personally, I like the money line better, but the run line isn’t a terrible play.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 8 (+100) is the play here as Texas has had a power outage lately, and the Detroit pitching staff has been rolling along. The Under is 5-0-1 in the previous six meetings at Comerica Park, too.
