The Longhorns basketball game against Iowa State on Wednesday has been postponed. The Cyclones are pausing their team activities due to COVID-19 complications.

This is the second game the Longhorns have seen postponed throughout Big 12 play. Baylor was also dealing with the coronavirus and had to reschedule the conference opener.

Neither game has officially been rescheduled yet. Texas says they’re going to work closely with other members of the conference to find a replacement date.

Here is the statement released by the University:

In accordance with Big 12 Conference men’s basketball interruption guidelines, the Texas at Iowa State game scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 20 has been postponed. Iowa State is pausing team activities due to COVID-19 protocols within the program.

The Big 12 Conference will work with the institutions to reschedule the game.

No. 4/4 Texas (11-2, 5-1 Big 12) will return to the court when it plays at TCU on Saturday, Jan. 23. Tip is set for 5 p.m. Central at Schollmaier Arena, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.

During Texas’ win over Kansas State, they were without three crucial players in Greg Brown, Brock Cunningham and Kai Jones. Texas head coach Shaka Smart mentioned that if the Iowa State game were to have occurred, those three would not have traveled to Ames.

Texas Longhorns Football: Recent series history vs. Iowa State

In 17 games, Iowa State has only prevailed three times, giving Texas a 14-3 series lead. All three wins have come in the past decade.

Texas’ series history against Iowa State is a short one, only playing 17 times.

One thing the Cyclones have never done is beat the Longhorns in back-to-back seasons. After hitting a game-winning field goal to win last year, Iowa State has an excellent shot to pull off the feat for the first time on Friday.

Between the current head coaches, Matt Campbell and Tom Herman, the latter holds a 2-1 advantage. However, this will be the most important matchup between the two schools. The winner will be in the driver’s seat to appear in the Big 12 championship game.

Texas’ Thanksgiving weekend kickoff vs Iowa State will be on Friday, Nov. 27 was announced. ABC will broadcast the crucial Big 12 matchup.

Thanksgiving weekend used to be one of the most eventful in Texas’ season, linking up to play Texas A&M in the Lone Star Showdown. Since the Aggies left for the SEC in 2012, Turkey Day opponents have varied for the Longhorns. Iowa State will be that opponent for Tom Herman this season.

In what will be the final home game for Sam Ehlinger, kickoff will be on Friday, Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. CST. ABC will broadcast the crucial Big 12 matchup. It will be the fourth time Texas will have the early morning kickoff slot.

Both teams have byes on Nov. 14 before Texas travels to Lawrence to face Kansas and Iowa State hosts Kansas State the following week. It will be a crucial matchup to decide who possibly appears in the Big 12 championship game.

As things stand, the Longhorns and Cyclones are both 5-2. However, one of Iowa State’s losses came against Louisiana in the nonconference portion of the schedule. They hold the advantage in conference play at 5-1 over Texas’ 4-2.

Thanksgiving weekend matchups have been up and down during Herman’s tenure in Austin. An overall 2-1 record includes splitting with Texas Tech and a win over Kansas in 2018.

As for Iowa State, Texas is also 2-1 against the Cyclones in the past three seasons. Last year was the sole loss, with kicker Connor Assalley hitting a game-winning kick as time expired.
