Iowa State at Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Iowa State Cyclones at Texas Longhorns sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Iowa State Cyclones (2-5 overall, 0-3 Big 12) tangle with the Texas Longhorns (8-1, 2-0) Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET at Frank C. Erwin Jr. Center in Austin, Texas. Below, we analyze the Iowa State-Texas college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Texas is No. 4 in the Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Iowa State at Texas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 8:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Iowa State +575 (bet $100 to win $575) | Texas -900 (bet $900 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Iowa State +12.5 (-120) | Texas -12.5 (+100)
  • Over/Under: 139.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Iowa State at Texas: Three things to know

  1. The Cyclones have their work cut out for them in seeking their first Big 12 victory of the season. Over three in-conference losses, the Cyclones have turned the ball over 19.0 times per game while allowing 73.3 points per game. ISU is just 2-8 over its last 10 conference games, but one of those wins — an 81-52 Feb. 15 rout — was against these Longhorns.
  2. G Courtney Ramey paced the Longhorns in an impressive 84-59 win at Kansas Saturday. Ramey went 7-for-11 from the floor in notching an 18-point game. The junior is posting career highs in scoring (13.7 points per game) and assists (3.4 per game) through nine games.
  3. Texas has won 11 straight games when favored by double-digits at home. The Longhorns are 6-5 against the spread in such games and have covered in three of their last four contests.

Iowa State at Texas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texas 77, Iowa State 63

Money line (ML)

Iowa State hasn’t won on the road since Feb. 16, 2019, a stretch of 16 straight games. Texas has played a solid schedule and is performing at an elite level at both ends of the floor. Pegging the figure at -900 misses the mark and offers some value for bigger bettors looking to avoid the big number to cover in a conference game.

TAKE THE LONGHORNS -900.

Against the spread (ATS)

The ‘Horns are 10-5 ATS in their last 15 games and 5-0 ATS in their last five home contests against Iowa State.

With strong offensive rebounding and the likelihood of a big advantage at the charity stripe, look for a double-digit lead that turns into a game-control exercise for the home five.

Figure on a 12-to-14-point cushion, so it’s WORTH THE RISK ON TEXAS -12.5 (+100).

Over/Under (O/U)

This one could be headed toward a 145 and fizzle all-too-easily in garbage time. PASS.

Texas at Kansas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Texas Longhorns at Kansas Jayhawks sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The ninth-ranked Texas Longhorns (7-1, 1-0 Big 12) visit the No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks (8-1, 2-0) Saturday for a noon ET tip-off at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan. Below, we analyze the Texas-Kansas college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Ranking courtesy of USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll

Texas at Kansas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Texas +170 (bet $100 to win $170) | Kansas -200 (bet $200 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Texas +4.5 (-110) | Kansas -4.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 136.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Texas at Kansas: Three things to know

  1. The Longhorns will be playing in their first true road game, although they’re 3-0 straight-up and 2-1 ATS in three neutral-site affairs. They covered the spread in wins over Indiana and North Carolina in those outings. Their only setback is a 68-64 loss to then-No. 12 Villanova in Austin Dec. 6.
  2. Kansas is coming off back-to-back conference wins – and covers – blasting West Virginia 79-65 as a 2-point favorite Dec. 22, and winning 58-57 as a 3.5-point underdog at Texas Tech Dec. 17. Overall, the Jayhawks have won eight straight since a 102-90 loss to top-ranked Gonzaga on a neutral site in their season opener, and they have covered three in a row.
  3. The Jayhawks hit a rare Over last time out against the Mountaineers, snapping a 5-0 Under run. The Under is 3-1 in the past four games at Allen Fieldhouse for KU. Kansas is averaging 78.7 points per game, while yielding just 66.1 PPG. The Jayhawks have been maddening to Over bettors, as they struggle with a 72.1 free-throw percentage.

Texas at Kansas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Kansas 68, Texas 66

Money line (ML)

Kansas (-200) is a risky play at home against a fellow top-10 team. They Jayhawks should be able to protect their home court and get the win, but risking two times your potential return is not a good bet.

PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEXAS +4.5 (-110) has the goods to pull the road upset. These two teams should battle for Big 12 supremacy for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign. The road team has covered in 11 of the past 13 head-to-head battles between these two conference titans, and Saturday should be no different. Texas closed last season with a 5-1 ATS mark in its final six road contests, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean is UNDER 136.5 (-110), although my preference would be to skip this wager completely. College basketball Unders are so stressful, especially when you expect the total to come in right around the line. The Under is 5-1 in the past six for Kansas, and 4-0 in its past four against winning teams. The Under is 5-1 in the past six for Texas.

Alamo Bowl: Colorado vs. Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Colorado Buffaloes vs. Texas Longhorns Alamo Bowl odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The No. 24 Texas Longhorns (6-3, 5-3 Big 12) meet the Colorado Buffaloes (4-1, 3-1 Pac-12) in the Alamo Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday. The kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Colorado-Texas college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Rankings courtesy of the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Colorado vs. Texas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:03 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Colorado +275 (bet $100 to win $275) | Texas -350 (bet $350 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Colorado +9 (-110) | Texas -9 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 65.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Colorado vs. Texas: Three things to know

  1. Colorado handed the keys to its football program to first-year head coach Karl Dorrell, who’s only previous head coaching experience was a five-year stint at another Pac-12 team in the UCLA Bruins (2003-07). For what it’s worth, Dorrell has a 1-3 bowl game record as a coach.
  2. Despite four underwhelming Longhorns seasons under head coach Tom Herman (31-18 overall record), which Texas fans are very grumpy about, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte insists Herman is the coach going forward. It’s noteworthy that Herman historically has Texas ready to go come bowl season and the Longhorns have won all three bowl games during his tenure, including last year’s Alamo Bowl.
  3. The elephant in the room—or Buffalo in this case—is that a four-win Colorado team is playing in a well-known bowl game against a high-profile football program. Obviously, Colorado’s season was heavily influenced by COVID-19 protocols. Texas lost pivotal games early on to TCU and Oklahoma, but the Longhorns won four of their last five games, including an overtime victory over then-No. 6 Oklahoma State on Halloween.

Colorado vs. Texas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texas 35, Colorado 31

Money line (ML)

I have a slight lean on Colorado (+275), but officially I’ll PASS. Texas senior QB Sam Ehlinger is undefeated in bowl games and the Longhorns have a much more explosive offense.

I just think there’s still enough value on Colorado plus the points and I generally like to sprinkle on the underdog’s money line when I’m taking them to cover the spread.

Against the spread (ATS)

There’s just a different vibe coming from each program.

Colorado is seemingly excited to play in a bowl game against one of the most popular football programs in the country while Texas administrators have to give votes of confidence for Herman, who hasn’t had a losing season at Texas.

No one was excited about Colorado or its new head coach coming into this year, but the Buffaloes are 4-1 straight up and ATS and their only loss was to a quality Utah program (38-21). Colorado was up 11 points early in the second half before the game went sideways and Utah put 28 unanswered points.

The Buffaloes have a higher net in third-down and red-zone scoring conversion percentages, and a higher net in time of possession. My one cause for concern is the fact we are getting here late. This game opened up with Colorado getting 12 points but the market is all over the Buffaloes and has dragged the number down 3 points.

I am BETTING COLORADO +9 (-110) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS.

Sam Houston State at Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Sam Houston State Bearkats at Texas Longhorns sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Sam Houston State Bearkats (3-4) visit the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns (5-1) Wednesday for an 8 p.m. tip in Austin. Below, we analyze the Sam Houston-Texas college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Longhorns are No. 11 in in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

Sam Houston State at Texas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:41 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: There was no money line listed at the time of publishing, likely because the spread is so large.
  • Against the spread/ATS: Sam Houston State +28 (-110) | Texas -28 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 142.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Sam Houston State at Texas: Three things to know

  1. The Bearkats won three straight games against lower-division teams Dec. 4-10, scoring back-to-back 117-point games followed by a 107-point effort. However, they were trampled at LSU 88-66 Monday, although they covered as 30.5-point underdogs. It was their first cover in four tries this season (there were no lines in their three wins).
  2. This will be Sam State’s third trip inside the Lone Star State. It lost at SMU 97-67 in its opener Nov. 25, and suffered an 84-52 rout at Texas Tech Nov. 27. Texas has played two in-state institutions so far, topping Texas State 74-53 last time out to cover a 17.5-point spread Dec. 9, and beating UT-Rio Grande Valley 91-55 as a 21-point favorite Nov. 25.
  3. Texas is averaging 73.7 points per game and allowing just 60.5 PPG. Its defense has been on point as opponents are hitting just 37.2% from the field (ranking 38th in the nation), and 22.5% behind the 3-point line (13th).

Sam Houston State at Texas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texas 89, Sam Houston State 58

Money line (ML)

No money line listed. It wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEXAS -28 (-110) is a rather risky play, as is any heavy favorite in college hoops. However, the Longhorns are 2-0 ATS in their two outings as favorites of 17.5 points or more, while the Bearkats are 1-3 ATS as underdogs of 14 or more points. It just makes sense to back the ranked home side.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 142.5 (-110) is the way to go, as Texas should flex its muscle against the Southland representative, getting the offense cranked up against an overwhelmed opponent after a handful of games against the nation’s cream of the crop. They Longhorns hit the Over in the opener against UTRGV, and you can expect a similar type performance here.

Texas at Kansas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Texas Longhorns at Kansas Jayhawks sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Texas Longhorns (6-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12) visit the winless Kansas Jayhawks (0-9, 0-8) Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff in their regular-season finales. Below, we analyze the Texas-Kansas college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Longhorns are No. 23 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Texas at Kansas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday at 1:50 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: No line posted as of this publishing, likely because the spread is so large
  • Against the spread/ATS: Texas -29.5 (-110) | Kansas +29.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 61.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Texas at Kansas: Three things to know

  1. Texas bounced back from a 23-20 Thanksgiving week loss at home to then-No. 15 Iowa State with a 69-31 rout at Kansas State last week. QB Sam Ehlinger threw for 274 yards and 2 touchdowns, while RBs Bijan Robinson (172 rushing yards, 9 carries) and Roschon Johnson (139 rushing yards, 14 carries) scored 3 TDs apiece. The Longhorns finished with 334 rushing yards and 10.1 yards per carry. Prior to the KSU game, the sophomore Robinson had only 2 rushing TDs and Johnson, a freshman, had none.
  2. Despite finishing with just 214 total yards (102 passing, 112 rushing), Kansas played its closest game of the season in a 16-13 loss at Texas Tech last week. The Jayhawks, who trailed 10-0 after one quarter and 13-3 midway through the third, managed to tie the game at 13-all when RB Daniel Hishaw Jr. scored on a 12-yard run with 10:46 remaining. Tech answered with a 52-yard, 10-play drive to kick a go-ahead field goal at the 5:36 mark. Kansas had the ball two more times, but went 4-and-out on each possession. KU’s defense forced 4 turnovers, while the offense failed to turn the ball over.
  3. Texas leads the all-time series 16-2, including a wild 50-48 win last season in Austin. PK Cameron Dicker‘s 33-yard field goal as time expired saved the then-No. 15 Longhorns an embarrassing loss. The fourth quarter featured 50 combined points as the two teams exchanged 6 touchdowns, 2 field goals and a blocked extra point for a safety. Texas has won the last 3 in the series. This year’s contest was originally scheduled for Nov. 21 but was postponed after COVID-19 concerns within the Kansas program.

Texas at Kansas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texas 51, Kansas 20

Money line (ML)

PASS. Even if a line is posted before kickoff, it will be way too high of a price on Texas.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEXAS -29.5 (-110) is worth a play. Kansas, which is averaging just 15.8 points per game, has been having problems finding the end zone all season. There’s no reason to believe that will change in its final game of 2020.

Meanwhile, with fourth-year head coach Tom Herman (31-18 at Texas) on the hot seat, look for the Longhorns players to send a message that they want him back in 2021.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 61.5 (-115) is the way to go. As long as the Jayhawks can score 14 or more points, the Over should hit as I expect the Longhorns to score at least 48 points with Ehlinger playing his final regular-season collegiate game. Plus, if this is the blowout I expect, Kansas should add some garbage-time points in the fourth quarter.

Villanova at Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Villanova Wildcats at Texas Longhorns sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The No. 12 Villanova Wildcats (3-1) visit the 17th-ranked Texas Longhorns (4-0) Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET non-conference matchup at Frank C. Erwin Jr. Center in Austin, Texas. Below, we analyze the Villanova-Texas college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Wildcats were ranked No. 3 and the Longhorns No. 22 in the preseason USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Poll.

Villanova at Texas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 3:43 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Villanova +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Texas -125 (bet $125 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Villanova +1.5 (-110) | Texas -1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 132.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Villanova at Texas: Three things to know

  1. Villanova recovered nicely from an 83-71 overtime loss to Virginia Tech on Nov. 28 to crush Hartford 87-53 Tuesday. The Wildcats covered as 26-point favorites, moving to 2-2 ATS on the season. Villanova played its first four games this season at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
  2. Texas beat North Carolina 69-67 in the Maui Invitational final – played in Asheville, N.C. – thanks to PG Matt Coleman III’s game-winning bucket with 0.1 seconds left. The Longhorns have alternated between single-possession victories and blowouts in each of their four wins.
  3. The Wildcats are 2-2 ATS and the Longhorns are 3-1 ATS, while they each have a 2-2 O/U record this season. Villanova won the last meeting between these teams 67-58, but that was all the way back in 2008.

Villanova at Texas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texas 67, Villanova 64

Money line (ML)

Texas is the deeper and more experienced team, returning all but one reserve player from last season’s team. The Longhorns have 11 RSCI top-100 players on their roster compared to the Wildcats’ eight.

Villanova isn’t suited to exploit Texas’ biggest weakness, which is sending opponents to the free-throw line. The Longhorns are 275th in opponent’s free-throw attempts per game, but the Wildcats shoot the 244th-most free throws per game.

Additionally, Villanova’s defense hasn’t been up to par thus far this season. The Wildcats’ defense is ranked 129th in opponent’s points per game, 190th in opponent’s field-goal shooting and 220th in opponent’s 3-point percentage.

Finally, the Wildcats rely heavily on 3-point shooting (10th-most 3’s made per game) and the Longhorns have been great at defending 3’s this season (18th in opponent’s 3-point percentage).

I’ll TAKE TEXAS (-125) for 1 unit.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS. There’s a very good chance this is a back-and-forth game and it would just be less stressful not having to win by even this small of a margin (1.5 points).

Over/Under (O/U)

Texas is a top-tier defensive team, and along with Villanova, both are two of the slower-paced teams in the country. Plus, they both tend to play low-scoring games against good teams.

Villanova has a 2-6 O/U record in its last 8 games vs. teams with an above-.600 winning percentage, while Texas is 2-9 O/U in its last 11 vs. teams with an above-.600 winning percentage.

GIMME UNDER 132.5 (-110) for 1 unit.

The Texas Longhorns (5-3 overall, 4-3 Big 12) visit the Kansas State Wildcats (4-5, 4-4) Saturday for a noon ET kickoff at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. Below, we analyze the Texas-Kansas State college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Texas at Kansas State: Betting odds, spread and lines

  2. Texas QB Sam Ehlinger is first in the Big 12 with 23 touchdown passes and third with 2,132 passing yards.

Texas at Kansas State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texas 28, Kansas State 24

Money line (ML)

Texas is significantly better than Kansas State offensively. Neither team is good defensively, but Kansas State has to control the clock to win. The Wildcats give up too many third downs and the Longhorns are good on third downs. Take TEXAS (-275) even if it isn’t much of a value.

Against the spread (ATS)

Texas is 2-5-1 ATS this season and 1-5-1 ATS in its last seven. The Longhorns are 3-13 ATS against the Wildcats, while KSU consistently keeps games close, going 6-2 ATS this season. Take KANSAS STATE +7 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The total has gone UNDER in six of the last seven games between these two teams. Texas will play down to opponents as well, so take UNDER 50.5 (-105).

Iowa State at Texas: Three things to know

  1. Iowa State RB Breece Hall leads the nation in rushing with 1,169 yards. Hall has piled up eight 100-yard games in 2020 – every ISU game this season. He ran for 101 yards on 24 carries when these teams met in Ames, Iowa, last season (Nov. 16, 2019). The Cyclones won that game 23-21 on PK Connor Assalley’s 36-yard field goal as time expired. Iowa State – a 7-point favorite – led Texas 20-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Longhorns battled back to take a 21-20 lead on a pair of touchdown tosses by QB Sam Ehlinger before the Cyclones kicked the winning field goal.
  2. The Cyclones and Longhorns control their own destinies in attempting to reach the Dec. 19 Big 12 Championship Game. But ISU will need to flip some historical trends if it wants to get there and win it. Iowa State has beaten Texas just three times in 17 all-time meetings, and the Cyclones only have won once in Austin (2010). ISU hasn’t won a conference title since 1912 and has never played in a conference championship game.
  3. Texas hasn’t played since Nov. 7, when it registered a 17-13 home win over West Virginia. The Longhorns’ Nov. 21 game at Kansas was postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Jayhawks program. Following bye/postponement weeks this season, the ‘Horns are 2-0 straight-up and 0-1-1 ATS.

Iowa State at Texas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Iowa State 29, Texas 27

Money line (ML)

Iowa State is the lean in principle, but PASS unless you can find your way to some value on a play at +110 or better.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Cyclones are 0-4 ATS in their last four meetings with the Longhorns. Analytics are more in support of what ISU has done on the season as a whole, but the Texas defense has been solid over recent games.

The Iowa State passing game against a weak Texas pass defense makes for a big difference maker in this one. Back the CYCLONES +1 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The Under is 22-4 in the Longhorns’ last 26 home games against foes with a winning record. The Under is 5-0 in the last five meetings between the Longhorns and Cyclones, and the low side is the lean in Saturday’s tilt in Austin. Back the UNDER 56.5 (-110).

West Virginia at Texas: Three things to know

  1. West Virginia posted an impressive 37-10 win over previously ranked Kansas State as a 5-point favorite last week. At home the Mountaineers have been outstanding, going 4-0 SU/ATS. However, they’re 0-2 SU/ATS in their two road trips – to Oklahoma State and Texas Tech.
  2. Texas is looking to build upon an impressive 41-34 overtime win at Oklahoma State last weekend, knocking the Cowboys from the ranks of the unbeaten. The Longhorns have been so-so at the DKR this season, going 2-1 SU and 1-1-1 ATS, pushing against Baylor Oct. 24 in their most recent showing in Austin.
  3. The Longhorns are averaging 44.3 PPG to rank 10th, helped in large part by the pass game. QB Sam Ehlinger has completed 60.3 percent of his pass attempts for 1,650 yards, 20 touchdowns and 5 interceptions across six games, while running for 284 yards and 7 more scores.

West Virginia at Texas: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Texas 41, West Virginia 30

Money line (ML)

Texas (-239) is just a little more expensive than my personal limit, which is no higher than -180 on money lines. Look to the spread instead. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

TEXAS (-6.5, -110) is a strong play on this side of a flat 7, even though it’s been a mixed bag for the ‘Horns at the DKR. They pushed last time they were home against underwhelming Baylor, posting a season-low 27 points in the 11-point win. However, West Virginia (+6.5, -110) has stunk on the road and cannot be trusted until it starts ticking off wins away from Morgantown.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 55.5 (-110) is a slam-dunk play, hitting in five of six games for the Longhorns this season. They’re averaging 39.0 PPG in three games at home this season, while their defense has allowed 33 or more points in four of the past five games overall. Texas gets into plenty of track meets, and there’s no reason to believe Saturday will be any different.
