10-2 should make a 12-team playoff easily with the Longhorns’ 2024 schedule.
The SEC schedule complete with dates was released Wednesday night. No doubt it has Texas fans fired up for the team’s inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference.
The schedule is about as favorable as they could make it while being fair to other teams across the league. Perhaps only Texas A&M, who avoids both Georgia and Alabama and gets Texas at home, has the only easier schedule on the western side of the conference.
Here’s a look at the complete schedule.
Texas will face its fair share of top opponents. The Longhorns face the Michigan Wolverines in Week 2 in what will surely carry one of the bigger television audiences of the season. By midseason, Texas faces Oklahoma and Georgia in back to back games.
Let’s look at a few takeaways from what seems to be a manageable first SEC schedule.

The Longhorns 2024 conference schedule dates are set to be revealed Wednesday night on the SEC Network.
The Texas Longhorns will play in a different conference next season. On Wednesday night we will learn what days they will play their scheduled 2024 opponents.
The Longhorns opponents were revealed prior to the team’s impressive 2023 season. We know the team’s home and away opponents. Famously, the SEC designated Texas A&M and Arkansas as home teams against Texas. The Longhorns are also set to face Vanderbilt, Oklahoma (Dallas) and Michigan away from Austin.
The bulk of Texas’ schedule will take place at home. The team will play host to Georgia, Florida, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Colorado State, Louisiana-Monroe and UTSA in 2024.
Schedule dates for the Georgia, Arkansas and Texas A&M games have been released. Texas will face Georgia on Oct. 19, Arkansas on Nov. 16 and Texas A&M in Nov. 30. Facing classic rivals Arkansas and Texas A&M within a two week span has to excite the fanbase heading into 2024.
The team’s first SEC schedule is more favorable than the team it enters the league with this season. Though, in fairness to Texas, the Longhorns have Michigan in their nonconference slate.
Oklahoma will have to face LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri and Auburn on the road with just three true home games against Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina. Their neutral site game against Texas will count as their fourth home game.
Where Texas’ games land might determine how favorable the Longhorns’ schedule will be next season. The schedule reveal will take place at 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network and ESPN.

We won’t know the time of the K-State kickoff until after BYU.
The Texas Longhorns (6-1) take on the BYU Cougars (5-2) this week. We know the time for that game. We don’t know the time for next week’s game.
Texas and Kansas State, along with four other Big 12 games, were given a six-day selection for the announced kickoff time. The University of Texas issued the following announcement.
“Kickoff for Texas Football’s Saturday, Nov. 4 home game against Kansas State was announced as a six-day selection by the Big 12 Conference on Monday. The official announcement for network and game time will be made after this weekend’s games have been completed.”
Several games will vie for a premier time slot. One would imagine the final Bedlam game of the foreseeable future between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would receive preferential treatment. It’s unclear where that preferential treatment would slot the two teams.
Texas could see a night game selection, but will have to wait for that to be revealed. The Longhorns take on BYU this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

Texas will face Baylor in prime time.
The No. 4 Texas Longhorns (2-0) have a kickoff time for Week 4. The team will play on ABC in prime time once again.
In case you were not convinced of the power of the Texas brand, the Longhorns earned the prime time feature against the winless Baylor Bears (0-2). It’s a testament to what Texas has brought the Big 12 conference in viewership for several seasons.
This time, there’s a reason for the country to tune into the Texas game. The Longhorns are following up on a 34-24 victory over No. 3 Alabama in Tuscaloosa. With that, the expectation for Texas has changed.
Heading into the season we identified Baylor as a potential trap game. The Longhorns will need to be careful not to loosen up on preparation for Baylor, Wyoming and everybody else on the schedule.
Texas made a big statement in Tuscaloosa in Week 2. It can make a bigger statement by showing consistency over the next 10 games. The Longhorns will get a national audience to showcase consistency on Sept. 23 against Baylor at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC.
