Williams says that the Aggies men’s basketball ‘staff doesn’t get the credit they deserve’

“I think our staff doesn’t get the credit they deserve for how they’re implementing the plan and our guys are receiving it,” Williams said.

After the Texas A&M men’s basketball team beat Purdue on Saturday afternoon, head coach Buzz Williams spoke to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, who asked him about what he learned about the Aggies this past weekend.

“I think I probably knew it, and I don’t mean that arrogantly,” Williams said. “The consistency of those guys, their character, their maturity, their experience. I also think that we’ve had a lot of reps over the first six weeks of the season. This is very similar to what we did last weekend, this sort of environment.

“Our guys just continue to improve. I think our staff doesn’t get the credit they deserve for how they’re implementing the plan and how our guys are receiving it. That’s easy to say, that’s hard to do.”

Texas A&M (9-2) is set to host Houston Christian University at Reed Arena on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. on SEC Network.

Texas A&M legend Mike Evans keeps hopes for another 1,000-yard season alive with huge game

Entering Sunday’s game in Inglewood against the Los Angeles Chargers, Evans had 590 total yards with four regular season games left in 2024.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers superstar wide receiver Mike Evans is a certified first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.

The Texas A&M legend has racked up 10 consecutive seasons of at least 1,000 yards receiving to begin his professional career, which is an NFL record.

Entering Sunday’s game against the Chargers in Inglewood, Evans had totaled 590 yards with four regular season games left in 2024. Despite missing three matchups due to injury, he had averaged 59 yards per game through Week 14, forcing him to average 102.5 yards in each remaining contest to reach the benchmark again.

During a dominant 40-17 victory versus Los Angeles, Evans had a monster performance to chip away at the 1K mark. He recorded 9 catches for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. Now, he needs 251 more yards (83.7 per game) over the final three contests.

Evans has tallied 12,429 receiving yards during his 11-year career. With the big game Sunday in Southern California, he surpassed Antonio Brown (12,291) to enter the top 25 in NFL history for receiving yards.

Aggies alumnus Braden Montgomery is ‘feeling great again’ after trade to Chicago White Sox

“I went down to Fort Myers, Florida to work with the Red Sox staff. They got me back on my feet. I’m moving around, feeling great again.”

Former Texas A&M baseball player Braden Montgomery has had a whirlwind of a year.

In 2024, Montgomery transferred from Stanford to the Aggies, quickly asserted himself as a top 10 MLB prospect and broke his right ankle during the College World Series. The injury caused Montgomery to drop to the 12th overall pick, where he was selected by the Boston Red Sox.

Montgomery was asked about his recovery on Hot Stove with Matt Vasgersian and Harold Reynolds last week on MLB Network.

“I’m doing great! I went down there to Fort Myers, Florida to work with the Red Sox staff. They were awesome. They got me back on my feet,” Montgomery said. “I’m moving around, feeling great again. Back up to sprinting, hitting and everything. Ready for the game plan.”

Last Wednesday, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox as part of a package for All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet. Montgomery was dealt to the south side alongside Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth and Wikelman González.

Former coach Jimbo Fisher’s son will kick for Samford vs. Texas A&M at Kyle Field in 2025

On Nov. 22, Samford will be visiting Kyle Field for Texas A&M’s regular season home finale, which may seem uninteresting on the surface.

Following Wednesday’s release of the 2025 Texas A&M football schedule, the media and 12th Man began dissecting every detail of the upcoming campaign, down to the minor details.

Carter Karels, the Aggies beat writer for 247Sports, immediately discovered a pretty interesting factoid. On Nov. 22, Samford will be visiting Kyle Field for Texas A&M’s regular season home finale.

While that may seem uninteresting on the surface, Karels spotted the game’s storyline. Former Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher‘s son Ethan is currently a freshman kicker for the Bulldogs.

Ethan is 5-foot-7 and 135 pounds. He graduated from North Florida Christian High School earlier this year.

“Never would I ever have thought I would have this opportunity, especially being told at a very young age by doctors that I may never see the field,” Ethan stated on X upon committing to Samford last year.

Ethan received the Dale Doss Courage Award by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club in Dec. 2023.

Former Texas A&M offensive lineman Matthew Wykoff reunites with Conner Weigman at Houston

Prior to becoming a Bear, Wykoff spent the first two years of his career at Texas A&M. He was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2022.

Two former Texas A&M football players are reuniting at the University of Houston through the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman officially departed from the Aggies on Wednesday when he chose the Cougars. The next day, California senior offensive lineman Matthew Wykoff chose to join Weigman in Houston.

“Dear Cal Family, I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two years being a part of this team and community,” Wykoff stated via X on Dec. 1. “I am blessed to be graduating this semester, but after lots of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to enter into the transfer portal as a grad transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.

“It has been a honor and Berkeley will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Prior to becoming a Bear, Wykoff spent the first two years of his collegiate career in Aggieland. Wykoff played in 16 games over two seasons at Texas A&M. He was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2022.

Johnny Manziel thinks Texas A&M freshman QB Marcel Reed ‘needs to give the fans some hope’

“He needs to continue to take the next step and give the fans some hope going into next season. This is gonna be the guy and his team.”

Ahead of the Texas A&M football team’s game against USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, Johnny Manziel shared his thoughts on the upcoming matchup.

Johnny Football provided his analysis and opinion regarding the play of redshirt freshman QB Marcel Reed during the Aggies’ 2024 season and Conner Weigman’s departure on the Action Network’s Big Bets On Campus podcast.

“I think this is another chance for Marcel Reed to be able to go out and showcase his ability,” Manziel said. “He needs to continue to take the next step and give the fans some hope of going into next season – this is gonna be the guy, and this is gonna be his team. With Conner Weigman going into the portal, it very much is that.

“I think we need to see a little bit more offensive fireworks, and I think this is another chance for Collin Klein to go out and showcase his ability of being the play caller for this team moving forward.”

49ers add big pass rusher in ESPN NFL mock draft

The former top recruit recorded 6.5 sacks for the Rebels during the 2024 campaign.

The college football regular season is officially over and bowl season is here. With the regular season wrapped up, many of the top prospects from around the country are beginning to declare for the draft if their team was not selected for the first-ever 12-team playoff.

While it’s becoming clearer which players will be on the board for April’s 2025 NFL draft, mock drafts are beginning to stack up with predictions for the San Francisco 49ers‘ first-round selection. According to Yates, Nolen is a “disruptor.” Yates praised Nolen’s pass-rushing skills and strength on the interior of the defensive line.

In the latest mock draft from ESPN’s Field Yates, the 49ers addressed the defensive line in the first round. With the No. 15 overall selection, Yates penned Ole Miss defensive tackle Walter Nolen to the 49ers.

Via ESPN:

Nolen is a disruptor with excellent interior pass-rushing traits, tallying 6.5 sacks this season. He has very good strength, an explosive first step and powerful hands to disengage from blockers and chase down the quarterback.

Read Yates’s full mock draft here.

After transferring from Texas A&M to Ole Miss, the 6-foot-4, 290 lb defensive linemen recorded 26 total tackles with 6.5 sacks for Lane Kiffin and the Rebels in 2024.

Prior to entering the college level, Nolen was a top recruit, earning either the first or second spot for the class of 2022 in multiple high school recruiting outlets. Nolen played two seasons at Texas A&M for Jimbo Fisher, recording five sacks, a forced fumble and 66 tackles for the Aggies.

The 2025 NFL draft is slated to begin with round one on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

‘College GameDay’ coming to Notre Dame for College Football Playoff

Get ready to reserve your place in the crowd.

ESPN and ABC will broadcast the first-round College Football Playoff game between Notre Dame and Indiana. And “College GameDay” wants to be in South Bend before it kicks off.

The popular college football program has announced that Notre Dame will be one of two stops it will make during that weekend. It also will be at Ohio State before it plays Tennessee the following day.

This will be the 37th time the Irish have been featured on “College GameDay” and the second time this season after they were featured ahead of their season-opening victory over Texas A&M. They currently have an unfortunate 16-20 all-time record in those games so far.

“College GameDay” last came to South Bend a season ago. That was before the Irish infamously had only 10 men on the field on the play that caused them to lose in gut-wrenching fashion to Ohio State. Hopefully, the Irish fans who gather on the Library Lawn this time around will be a lot happier after this upcoming appearance.

Despite the loss versus No. 2 Texas, the Texas A&M football team’s entrance was legendary

According to Sports Media Watch, a total of 9.46M viewers tuned in on ABC to watch the Longhorns defeat the Aggies at Kyle Field last week.

While the Texas A&M football team’s loss last week versus the Longhorns was certainly a letdown, one thing every member of the 12th Man should take some joy from his how legendary the Aggies’ entrance was pregame.

Kyle Field was rocking, the atmosphere was electric and Texas A&M matched that energy, at least until the kickoff. The Aggies losing three of their last four regular season games, with the last being against their bitter rivals, was certainly a tough pill to swallow.

According to Sports Media Watch, 9.46 million viewers tuned in on ABC last week to watch Texas defeat Texas A&M in College Station. That total is the highest audience all-time for the Lone Star Showdown rivalry.

The Aggies have definitely found a great leader in head coach Mike Elko. Now it’s time for him to continue building upon the foundation he built in year one.

Elko‘s top three priorities each season should be to beat the Longhorns, win the SEC and qualify for the College Football Playoff, then go from there.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko ‘had an idea’ junior QB Conner Weigman’s departure ‘was coming’

“I had an idea that was coming. I think it’s the right thing for him, his future and career. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.”

After three years in College Station, Texas A&M redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

As was the case for many members of the 12th Man, Aggies football head coach Mike Elko was not surprised by the news of Weigman’s impending departure.

“So much respect for Conner and the way he handled a tremendously challenging situation for him. To lose the job and stay a consummate teammate, a great Aggie, a great teammate,” Elk said Wednesday. “I had an idea that was coming. I think it’s the right thing for him, his future and his career.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.”

Despite the bittersweet nature of Weigman’s announcement, this truly is the best move for all parties involved. Texas A&M‘s offense was stagnant with Weigman under center and has a higher upside with redshirt freshman Marcel Reed as the signal caller.

Weigman‘s career in Aggieland will unfortunately be remembered as what could’ve been, largely due to injuries.
