Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Houston Texans (0-2) visit the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) in an AFC South clash Sunday. Kickoff from EverBank Stadium is set for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Texans vs. Jaguars odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

Houston suffered a 31-20 loss in its Week 2 action vs. the Indianapolis Colts, failing to cover as a 1-point favorite. Rookie QB C.J. Stroud continued his solid start to his rookie campaign as he completed 30 of his 47 passes for 384 yards and 2 TDs. What killed Houston was its defense that allowed 227 passing yards, 171 of which to Colts backup QB Gardner Minshew, while coming up with 0 turnovers, 0 sacks and 0 tackles for loss.

Jacksonville failed to stay undefeated to start its season as the Jags lost 17-9 vs. the Kansas City Chiefs at home in Week 2, failing to cover as +3 underdogs. Jacksonville’s offense struggled in that loss as QB Trevor Lawrence only completed 22 of his 41 passes for 216 yards, and the Jags totaled only 74 rushing yards.

Texans at Jaguars picks and predictions

Prediction

Jaguars 24, Texans 14

Moneyline

PASS.

The Jaguars should be able to pick up the win, but as (-375) favorites, the line is not worth the juice. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN JAGUARS -7.5 (-115).

I expect this to be a closer game than some may expect, but in the end I like the Jags to pull away and cover as 8.5-point favorites. Houston has proven to be a very pass-heavy offense, and that will likely keep them in this game vs. this Jags secondary that has shown they can give up a lot of yards. However, I expect the lack of a true rushing attack to make this Houston offense more predictable, which will likely lead to the Jaguars pulling away in the 4th quarter as they should have the Texans’ scheme figured out by then.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 44 (-110).

Jacksonville is a very talented team, but its offense has not been firing on all cylinders through its 1st 2 weeks. I do expect WR Calvin Ridley to give this Texans secondary some fits, but overall I like this game to hit the Under. Houston is 17th in offensive yards per game with 328.5 and Jacksonville is 22nd with 306.5, showing that neither of these offenses has blown the top off of defenses thus far into the season.

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Texans (0-3-1) face the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) Sunday in Week 5 at TIAA Bank Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Texans vs. Jaguars odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Texans are the lone winless team in the NFL after losing 34-24 to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. Rookie RB Dameon Pierce has been a bright spot for Houston as he’s rushed for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first 4 weeks.

The Jaguars put together their worst performance of the season in a 29-21 Week 4 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles in rainy conditions. Before last week’s disappointing loss, Jacksonville outscored its previous 2 opponents 62-10.

Texans at Jaguars picks and predictions

Prediction

Jaguars 31, Texans 20

Moneyline

Go ahead and PASS on the moneyline in this game despite the Jaguars being the far superior team this season. Houston has had plenty of success against Jacksonville over the years, but this feels like a perfect time for the Jaguars to buck the trend. However, the odds are too steep to make the home side a profitable wager.

Against the spread

JAGUARS -6.5 (-125) is the ideal spread wager in this game with Jacksonville being the more well-rounded team. QB Trevor Lawrence is in a prime bounce-back spot this week following a rough outing in Week 4 vs. the Eagles.

The trends point toward taking the Texans ATS as the Jaguars haven’t won a meeting against their AFC South counterparts since 2017, but these teams are vastly different than they were in recent years.

Over/Under

Once again, the Jaguars are in a perfect get-right spot in Week 5 as their offense should be able to have plenty of success against the Texans. Taking that into consideration, OVER 43.5 (-112) seems too low for the total in this game.

The Over is 5-0 in Houston’s last 5 games following a straight-up loss, and it’s hit in 5 of the last 7 meetings between the Texans and the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Houston Texans (2-11) travel to face the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-11) in a Week 15 matchup Sunday at TIAA Bank Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Texans vs. Jaguars odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Texans enter play in Week 15 with three consecutive losses and non-covers after a surprising 22-13 win at Tennessee in Week 11. Houston has scored a total of just 27 points in the three-game losing streak.

The Jaguars made headlines by dismissing head coach Urban Meyer this week after a disastrous 2-11 start, and some off-field incidents. Jacksonville seeks revenge after losing 37-21 at Houston in Week 1.

Texans at Jaguars odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Texans 22, Jaguars 16

Money line

The TEXANS (+180) are the value play in this road game. Houston has looked more like a functional NFL team at times this season, and it has two wins inside the division, including Week 1 against Jacksonville.

The Jaguars (-230) are adjusting to a new head coach and the distraction of the Urban Meyer aftermath. Houston is the better play.

Against the spread

The TEXANS +4.5 (-110) is a good play if you just don’t trust them straight up. The ATS trends for both teams are ice cold.

But, the Texans are 5-2 ATS in the past seven meetings in Jacksonville, and the previous seven meetings overall in this series. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in the past four in this series, too.

Over/Under

The UNDER 39.5 (-108) are worth playing, even though a total in the 30’s is rather low for this era of NFL football.

However, we’ve seen the Under cash in eight straight for the Jaguars, while hitting in 11 of the last 12 games overall. The Under is also 16-5 in the past 21 games for Jacksonville and 4-0 in the past four at home.

The Under is 5-0 in the past five on the road for Houston, while going 5-2 in the past seven inside the division.

Texans at Jaguars: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Texans 27, Jaguars 13

Money line (?)

The Jags are expected to be without Minshew, which means a QB matchup of Deshaun Watson for the Texans against rookie QB Jake Luton for the Jaguars. Jacksonville has lost six in a row and doesn’t appear to be turning it around. Although there is little value, take the TEXANS (-334).

Against the spread (?)

These games have been close. Despite winning eight of 10, the Texans have covered the spread in six of those matchups. Both teams are in the bottom four of the league in ATS record. Houston has covered the spread only once this season and Jacksonville has only covered twice. However, with Luton at quarterback for the Jaguars, expect a big win for the Texans. Take the TEXANS -7 (-110).

Over/Under (?)

Both teams are 4-3 O/U this season, but looking historically at this matchup, seven of the last 10 matchups have gone Under the total. Take UNDER 50.5 (-110).

Houston Texans favored on road vs. Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9

The Houston Texans are the betting favorites in their Week 9 road matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Houston Texans (1-6) travel to meet the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-6) in Week 9 Sunday tilt at 1 p.m. ET at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville. Below, we take a look at the early betting odds and lines at BetMGM Sportsbook.

The Texans were dumped 35-20 at home in Week 7 by the Green Bay Packers before the bye, not only dropping to 1-6 SU, but also 1-6 ATS. Their lone win and cover came back in Week 5 as 6.5-point favorites against these same Jaguars, winning 30-14 at NRG Stadium. Passing hasn’t been a problem for the Texans, who are rolling up 282.7 yards per game through the air to rank fifth in the NFL. That’s because they can’t get the run game going, averaging just 84.9 yards per game to check in dead-last. That lack of balance on offense has been a major reason for their undoing this season. The defense is also struggling, coughing up 417.6 total yards (30th), 165.9 rushing yards (31st) and 31.0 points (30th) per game.

The Jaguars are also coming off a bye, falling 39-29 in a track meet at SoFi Stadium against the Los Angeles Chargers two weeks ago. The good news is that it was the second-highest scoring game of the season for the Jaguars. Jacksonville has averaged 23.5 PPG in four outings on the road, while scoring just 18.7 PPG in three contests at home. The Jaguars opened the season with a 27-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts back in Week 1, but it’s been all downhill every since. The Jags have dropped six straight contests while failing to cover in each of their previous five. Jacksonville is a dismal 30th in the NFL with just 96.6 rushing yards per game, and it’s 26th with 22.0 PPG overall. Defensively the Jaguars are allowing 424.4 total yards (31st), 281.9 passing yards (28th), 142.6 rushing yards (28th) and 31.4 points (31st), so this could be a wide-open affair.
