Texans select Alabama OL Tyler Booker in 2025 NFL mock draft

In the latest mock draft from Pro Football Network, the Houston Texans shore up their offensive line with the selection of an All-American.

If C.J. Stroud plans to stay upright in 2025, the Houston Texans need an All-American guard to pair alongside Laremy Tusnil.

Consider that mission accomplished based on one mock draft to start the new year.

Dalton Miller’s latest 2025 NFL mock draft for the Pro Football Network has the Texans shoring up their trenches with the selection of Alabama offensive lineman Tyler Booker with the 21st overall pick in the first round. Houston’s draft plan is simple on Day 1: take the best lineman available and worry about the rest later.

The Crimson Tide lineman has never truly relinquished his title as the best interior blocker in the class. But to Booker’s dismay, NFL evaluators and decision-makers alike have great imaginations and see the tackle-to-guard route as viable for some in the class.

Shaq Mason is a 10-year veteran with a ton of miles, and the left guard spot, where Booker plays, has long been in flux because of underwhelming performance and injuries.

While the Texans could pivot toward the defensive line, their inability to secure a long-term left guard makes Booker’s selection intriguing. The junior comes from an offense built on a ground game emphasis under both Nick Saban and Kalen DeBoer.

Houston could certainly use road mauler to open running lanes for Joe Mixon in Bobby Slowik’s offense. Former first-round pick Kenyon Green isn’t expected to start again after three lackluster seasons.

Mason, who will turn 32 this offseason, could be considered a cap casualty after an underwhelming 2024 season for the AFC South champions.

The Texans currently hold six picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, which will be held in Green Bay from April 24-26.

Texans add All-Big Ten DL, All-Conference WR in 2025 NFL mock draft

In the latest mock draft by Pro Football Focus, the Houston Texans shore up both lines and add another weapon for C.J. Stroud.

While the Houston Texans are looking toward the AFC playoffs, the team’s scouting department is starting to formulate an idea on what direction to look in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Defensive tackle remains a dire need. So does the interior offensive line. And after losing Tank Dell for most —if not all — of the 2025 season, wide receiver has moved up the pecking order in Nick Caserio’s to-do list.

The good news? Pro Football Focus has Houston targeting all three positions with its first three picks. At pick No. 23, the Texans bolster their defensive line by targeting All-Big Ten defensive tackle Kenneth Grant from Michigan.

Here is PFF’s Gordon McGuinness’ commentary on Grant:

The Texans are really strong at edge defenders, as Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter give them one of the top pass-rushing duos in the NFL. Adding to their defensive interior would be wise though, and if Grant is still on the board when they make their selection, he would make a lot of sense.

At pick No. 55, the Texans improve their pass protection with an anchor at guard in Georgia’s Tate Ratledge.

Here’s McGuinness’ note on Ratledge.

Ratledge has been one of the best pass-blocking guards in all of college football throughout his time at Georgia, earning an 80.0-plus PFF pass-blocking grade in each of the past three seasons, and allowing just 13 total pressures from 1,016 pass-blocking snaps since 2021.

In Round 3, Houston swipes perhaps the most underrated receiver prospect in the draft with the selection of Colorado State’s Tory Horton at pick No. 87. The two-time All-Mountain West was coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Rams before suffering a season-ending knee injury against San Jose State.

Here’s McGuinness’ thoughts on Horton.

The Texans offense suffered when Tank Dell got hurt in 2023, and when Nico Collins got hurt this year, so investing a top-100 draft pick on a wide receiver would make a lot of sense. Horton has averaged over 2.70 yards per route run in each of the past three seasons.

Currently, the Texans own the No. 19 pick, though given their playoff status, that’s subject to change.

Houston closes out the regular season on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon CT.

Texans shore up offensive line in latest mock draft

Marcus Mbow could be the long-term answer for the Houston Texans offensive line.

While the Houston Texans have questions surrounding their secondary and wide receiver room, shoring up the offensive line is essential this offseason.

Free agency is one way to bolster its trenches, but Houston could also go for the cost-friendly route via the draft. The addition of a player with five years of potential roster control would allow the Texans to spend more in free agency at other positions while shoring up protection for C.J. Stroud.

Yahoo! Sports believes that the Texans would be wise to bring in an interior offensive lineman during the first round, hence why they have Houston selecting Purdue offensive lineman Marcus Mbow with 20th overall pick.

C.J. Stroud is constantly under duress and the Texans’ run game is one of the least efficient in the league, despite Joe Mixon’s best efforts. Mbow is a very good athlete who springs out of his stance. He could look to add some lower body strength, but he plays tough and is able to bend and stay balanced in space, while also already showing off the ability to cut off defenders on the backside. He would boost the Texans’ offensive line no matter what spot he’d end up at.”

Houston’s expected to target several options in free agency to fix the interior offensive line. Shaq Mason could be hitting the market to save cash. The Texans also must decide what to do with the left guard spot between Juice Scruggs and Tytus Howard.

Mbow, who spent the past two seasons at right tackle, could suit better inside. He also could enter a battle with former second-round pick Blake Fisher for first-team reps at tackle, with the second option shifting inside.
The position flexibility naturally gives Houston options. Of course, all sights for now are set on the wild-card round and a shot to potentially clinch a spot in the Super Bowl and a later draft selection.

Texans shore up offsensive line in latest mock from Draft Wire

The Houston Texans bolster their offensive line with the addition of Purdue offensive lineman Marcus Mbow.

The Houston Texans need another offensive lineman in 2025 to shore up the interior protection.

Draft Wire might have the answer should Alabma’s Tyler Booker be off the board.

With the 25th pick in their latest mock draft, DW has the Texans target Purdue offensive lineman Marcus Mbow to shore up the protection for C.J. Stroud.

Mbow also could push former second-round pick Blake Fisher for reps at right tackle after spending the previous two seasons on the right outside for the Boilermakers.

A three-year starter, Mbow declared for the draft that Purdue fired second-year coach Ryan Walters following a 1-11 season. The redshirt junior is expected to be one of several potential late Day 1 or early Day 2 prospects, though the NFL Combine should provide a better indication of where he overall sits.

According to Pro Football Focus, Mbow graded out pretty fluid in both run blocking and pass protection, posting a 75.9 and 71.1, respectively. He allowed a career-high four sacks, which is why the Texans could elect to shift him inside permanently at the professional level.

It would make sense for Houston to bolster its protection now with a year of Joe Mixon in the fold. Helping out Stroud is the top priority of the offseason for the Texans, so if Mbow is the top fit, he must be on their radar.

Where are the Texans picking in the 2025 NFL draft after Week 13?

The Texans remain in the playoff hunt, but they’re inching closer to a higher draft pick following Week 13’s road win over the Jaguars.

The Houston Texans enter the bye week with a chance to evaluate the roster.

The scouting department can also begin to study the tape with the college football regular season at its end.

The Texans should be thinking about life in January since they’re only a few games away from clinching the AFC South, but the draft is right around the corner. Houston must upgrade its interior offensive line while also targeting a long-term defensive tackle.

Barring a trade of four-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil, Houston should be content with its book ends. Either 2024 second-round pick Blake Fisher or veteran Tytus Howard should serve as the starting right tackle in 2025.

Howard, who inked a three-year extension before the 2023 season, could also shift inside to guard, leaving a hole at right guard in place of the struggling Shaq Mason. Center and both guard positions should be up for grabs, even if the Texans elect to bring back former first-round pick and oft-injured Kenyon Green.

Here’s a look at where the Texans are listed after the Week 12 loss and the full draft order projection from Tankathon:

  • Round 1, No. 22 overall
  • Round 2, No. 53 overall
  • Round 3, No. 88 overall
  • Round 4, No. 124 overall
  • Round 5, No. 166 overall (via BUF)
  • Round 7, No. 240 overall

All those numbers could improve if the Texans can respond when they return next Sunday to take on the Miami Dolphins. Houston remains the favorite to win the AFC South, yet it might be stuck in the No. 4 seed should Pittsburgh and Buffalo continue to win entering Week 15.

Houston could secure a head-to-head win over the Baltimore Ravens, thus factoring into the No. 3 seed if the AFC North franchise can clinch a division title.
