Predicting the first 5 cuts for the Jags after their preseason opener vs. Browns

The Jags unfortunately have until Tuesday at 4 PM EST to make five cuts and file their roster down to 85. Here are five players we believe may be considered during these tough decisions.

With the Jacksonville Jaguars taking the field for their first preseason game Saturday, Urban Meyer and his staff will now have the tough and unfortunate task of narrowing the roster down to 85 (five cuts required) by Tuesday’s mandated deadline at 4 PM EST. There will also be a deadline before Tuesday, Aug. 24 (five more cuts will be required), then eventually, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, the roster will need to be trimmed down to the final 53 players.

That said, here are our predictions for the first wave of cuts:

Steelers release WR Tevin Jones after drops

Pittsburgh announced a pair of roster moves on Monday.

When you are toiling at the end of the depth chart, your employment is always tenuous. Wide receiver Tevin Jones figured this out on Monday. The team released Jones after a couple of ugly drops Sunday night against the Buffalo Bills.

To replace Jones on the 53-man roster, Pittsburgh promoted wide receiver Amara Darboh. Darboh was selected in the third round of the 2017 draft by the Seattle Seahawks out of Michigan. Darboh bounced around between four other teams before signing with the Steelers in November.

The team has made no formal announcement of who will replace Darboh on the practice squad.

Steelers add WR Tevin Jones last minute before Browns game

Tevin Jones added to 53-man roster for Thursday’s game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers waited until the last minute to add a wide receiver to replace Ryan Switzer on the active roster for tonight’s game with the Cleveland Browns. According to his management agency, Tevin Jones is on the 53-man roster for Thursday’s game.

Jones has been on again and off again with the Steelers. He has never appeared in a regular-season game for the Steelers.
