Saints among a crowd of teams interviewing first-round OL prospect Teven Jenkins

The New Orleans Saints have a meeting with Oklahoma State tackle Teven Jenkins, a popular first round prospect in the 2021 NFL draft.

The Draft Newtork’s Justin Melo reports that the New Orleans Saints have made contact with Oklahoma State left tackle Teven Jenkins, a legit first-round prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. 14 teams are listed on Melo’s report of Jenkins’ current predraft interviews, but there’s a good chance all 32 squads end up meeting with Jenkins virtually at some point.

And the interest is easy to justify. Jenkins has terrific size at 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds of muscle, with the lean body type favored by today’s most successful linemen. He’s expected to test well athletically at Oklahoma State’s pro day.

What’s interesting is that he has experience playing on both the left and right sides of the line: per Pro Football Focus, 483 of Jenkins’ snaps in college have come from the left tackle spot, which isn’t an insignificant number. But he’s logged more time at right tackle (1,844), and that’s probably where his future lies in the NFL.

He isn’t someone who would help the Saints tremendously right away, but he could be a solid succession plan if either Terron Armstead or Ryan Ramczyk exit New Orleans. Both bookend tackles are unrestricted free agents next year and could be part of a blockbuster trade package if the Saints get creative. Having a good prospect like Jenkins ready to step in makes sense.

Mel Kiper Jr. changes Bills pick in latest mock draft

OL Teven Jenkins goes to Buffalo Bills in Mel Kiper Jr. latest 2021 NFL Draft mock.

ESPN’s NFL Draft guru in Mel Kiper Jr. has changed his mind a bit on the Buffalo Bills.

Releasing his second mock draft of the offseason, the move is Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins. In his first mock, the pick for the Bills was Alabama running back Najee Harris.

Here’s Kiper’s breakdown on the change:

This pick could depend on whether free-agent right tackle Daryl Williams returns and whether the Bills think former second-round pick Cody Ford could kick out to tackle. If they view him as a guard, tackle becomes an hole to fill. Jenkins played on both the left and right sides at Oklahoma State. I could see Buffalo targeting a cornerback if a guy the organization likes makes it to No. 30, and I think running back should be an option as well. This is a team that is close to being a Super Bowl contender.

As referenced, free agency will play a huge part here for Buffalo. Not only is Williams, their starting right tackle, a free agent, so is Jon Feliciano. The Bills’ offensive line could keep everyone or have a couple of holes to fill by the time the 2021 NFL Draft rolls around as free agency opens the month prior.

Jenkins could be a plug-and-play guy for right tackle, though. The Draft Network does suggest Jenkins, like Ford, could play on the inside of the offensive line, too. That versatility is something Buffalo has loved in their offensive lineman since head coach Sean McDermott took over.

Pro Football Focus also recently ranked Jenkins their No. 4 offensive tackle in the draft.

Cycling back around to running backs, Kiper also changes his tune on the entire position, not just for the Bills. Previously he had two of them being drafted in Round 1 (Travis Etienne), but now he predicts none are selected.

Big 12 Conference: 2021 NFL Draft announcement tracker

As the season comes to an end, we track which Big 12 Conference players have declared for the NFL Draft.

With the 2020 regular season winding down for the Big 12 Conference, announcements are being made by players deciding to enter into the 2021 NFL Draft. The Texas Longhorns aren’t the only school in the conference to have their players forego their remaining eligibility.

Players such as Sam Ehlinger have yet to make that decision and likely won’t until after the bowl game. Ehlinger and many other seniors have the option to return for another season due to the NCAA freezing eligibility this year due to the pandemic.

Many of those seniors who are invited, will meet in Mobile, Alabama for this year’s senior bowl. Ehlinger and teammate Ta’Quon Graham have both accepted their invites to participate in the week-long process. They will meet with prospective teams, practice under the instruction of an NFL staff, and participate in the game on the Saturday following.

Last season the Longhorns saw Collin Johnson, Devin Duvernay, and Brandon Jones all selected in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Below is a list of the Big 12 Conference’s players who have already declared for the NFL Draft.
