Jaylen Brown, 7uice honor life and legacy of late Terrence Clarke

Jaylen Brown and his lifestyle brand 7uice celebrate the life and memory of Terrance Clarke with a new limited-edition shirt.

Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown continues to honor the life and legacy of the late Terrance Clarke, a Dorchester, MA native and basketball phenom who died in 2021 at the age of 19. Brown and his apparel brand 7uice continue to work with Clarke’s friends and family to expand on Clarke’s legacy, this time with a limited edition t-shirt.

Clarke was born in Boston and played basketball growing up in southern New England. In that time and during his lone year at the University of Kentucky, Clarke built a strong friendship with JaylenBrown, one that blossomed into a relationship beyond basketball.

Brown has worked to celebrate Clarke since his passing in April of 2021. For example, when a community center in Roxbury, MA named a court after Clarke, Brown spoke at the event. Now, Brown is further honoring his late friend with a limited-edition Terrance Clarke shirt, released in collaboration with Clarke’s family and foundation.

Four Boston Celtics players attended a court naming in honor of Terrence Clarke and Jaylen Brown spoke about the bond the two shared.

There were a number of Boston Celtics players in attendance at Vine Street Community Center in Roxbury as they dedicated the court to the late Terrence Clarke Sunday. Jaylen Brown, Jayston Tatum, Marcus Smart and Aaron Nesmith were all at the court naming. Brown spoke about his relationship with Clarke and handed a piece of the parquet at TD Garden to Clarke’s mother.

โ€œThis is an emotional moment for everybody,โ€ Brown told The Athletic. โ€œWe have a saying we like to say in our family, that energy lives forever. And as long as we uphold his name and speak of his name in high spirits, Terrence is still alive. We wanted to honor him in the way he needs to be honored.โ€

Clarke, a Boston-area native who played at Kentucky, grew up playing on the court and dreamed of having the court bear his name one day. Now it does.

Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown and the late Terrence Clarke had a special bond. That was made clear Sunday at a court naming at Vine Street Community Center in Roxbury to honor Clarke, a Boston-area college basketball player at Kentucky who died in a car accident earlier this year. Brown spoke at the court naming Sunday, with fellow NBA players Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, John Wall and Aaron Nesmith also in attendance, according to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.

The court at Vine Street was one Clarke grew up playing at, according to Weiss. It now bears his name.

Brown also presented Clarke’s mother with a piece of the parquet floor from TD Garden at the court naming.

Poised to enter the 2021 NBA draft as a potential first-round pick, the loss has dealt a hard blow to his family, friends and the wider Boston basketball community.

His loss is deeply felt by many.

Terrence Clarke, who tragically died in car crash, should be honorary NBA draftee

Terrence Clarke, a freshman for Kentucky this past season, died Thursday following a car accident in Los Angeles. He was 19 years old.

On Wednesday, just one day before the fatal crash, Clarke and his Kentucky teammate Brandon Boston Jr. were among the six NBA prospects to officially sign with Klutch Sports and agent Rich Paul for representation.

Last month, whenย Clarke announced that he had declared early entry for the 2021 NBA draft, he said that he hoped to make his fans proud as he pursued his dreams.

Clarke was just about three months shy of realizing his lifelong goal of playing professional basketball before that opportunity was taken away from him.

His family, however, should still get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear his name called during this year’s draft.

The league afforded a similar honor to former Baylor big man Isaiah Austin back in 2014. Austin was unable to play in the NBA after learning four days before the draft that he had Marfan syndrome, which would put his health at extraordinary risk.

Between the 15th and 16th pick in the 2014 NBA draft, commissioner Adam Silver made Austin a ceremonial pick. He received a standing ovation as he walked across the stage.

Just last year, the WNBA also extended such an honor to Gianna Bryant and her teammates Alyssa Altobelli and Payton Chester after they were killed in a helicopter crash that claimed their lives as well as six others, including Kobe Bryant.

While these gestures won’t take the pain away or make the tragic loss any easier, you can see how much it meant for Gianna’s mother Vanessa. Clarke’s mother, who was reportedly by Terrence’s side when he passed, should get to experience that moment as well.

Clarke, who was a standout prep player in New England, developed a close relationship with several players on the Boston Celtics.

He was particularly close with NBA All-Star wing Jaylen Brown, who last night tweeted that the league should make Clarke an honorary draft pick in 2021.

Brown was not alone in this assertion, as many others had similar posts and calls for action following the tragedy:

Ex-Kentucky guard Terrence Clarke dies after Los Angeles car accident

Former Kentucky guard Terrence Clarke died on Thursday after a car accident following a workout in the Los Angeles area.

Former Kentucky guard Terrence Clarke died on Thursday after a car accident following a workout in the Los Angeles area, the university confirmed in a statement.

Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant John Matassa told Ramona Shelburne of ESPN that Clarke was traveling at a high rate of speed through a red light when he collided with another vehicle attempting to make a left turn. Clarke struck the vehicle and then hit a light pole and block wall.

Clarke, 19, was pronounced dead at Northridge Hospital as a result of the collision. His mother was at his side when he died.

“I am absolutely gutted and sick tonight,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said. “A young person who we all love has just lost his life too soon, one with all of his dreams and hopes ahead of him. Terrence Clarke was a beautiful kid, someone who owned the room with his personality, smile and joy. People gravitated to him, and to hear we have lost him is just hard for all of us to comprehend right now. We are all in shock.

“Terrence’s teammates and brothers loved him and are absolutely devastated. They know we are here for them for whatever they need.

“I am on my way to Los Angeles to be with his mother and his brother to help wherever I can. This will be a difficult period for all those who know and love Terrence, and I would ask that everyone take a moment tonight to say a prayer for Terrence and his family. May he rest in peace.”

Clarke attended a workout in the Los Angeles area on Thursday afternoon in preparation for the NBA draft.

He announced last month that he would enter the draft and it was just announced on Wednesday that he had signed with the Klutch Sports Group.

“We are saddened and devastated by the tragic loss of Terrence Clarke,” Klutch Sports Group CEO Rich Paul told ESPN in a statement. “Terrence was an incredible, hard-working young man. He was excited for what was ahead of him and ready to fulfill his dreams. Our prayers go out to Terrence and his family, who ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Clarke, who was a former five-star recruit, played just eight games at Kentucky after an ankle injury cut his season short. He averaged 9.6 points per game and was projected to be a second-round pick.

He is survived by his parents, Osmine Clarke and Adrian Briggs, and his three siblings, Tatyana Gray, Gavin Clarke and Madison Adrianne.

2021 NBA draft prospect, friend of several Celtics Terrence Clarke dies in accident

The Kentucky product was just 19 years old.

Dorchester native and friend of multiple Boston Celtics Terrence Clarke has died after a car accident in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, per multiple sources.

The 19-year-old University of Kentucky product had just declared for the 2021 NBA draft, and was in Los Angeles to work out with fellow 2021 draft prospect and Wildcat B.J. Boston according to WKTY. Clarke reportedly ran a red light at high speed per the Los Angeles Police Department, and then hit a wall and traffic light without proper use of a seatbelt. He was later rushed to a local hospital, where ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports he passed with his mother at his side.

Clarke had been a frequent visitor of and friend to several Celtics in the last year, forging friendships with Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker among others.

“We are saddened and devastated by the tragic loss of Terrence Clarke,” Clarke’s agent — Rich Paul of Klutch Sports — related to ESPN via a statement.

“Terrence was an incredible, hard-working young man. He was excited for what was ahead of him and ready to fulfill his dreams. Our prayers go out to Terrence and his family, who ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Terrence Clarke, 19, dies after car accident in Los Angeles

Clarke had just announced earlier in the week that he had signed with Klutch Sports before the NBA Draft.

Terrence Clarke, a 19-year old freshman out of Kentucky, has died after being involved in a car accident on Thursday afternoon. Clarke had recently declared for the draft and had signed with Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for his representation. Clarke had hopes of being draft and was in Los Angeles to train for the upcoming draft later this summer.

Later on Thursday night, Paul released a statement to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski in which he confirmed the tragedy. Clarke’s mother was by his side. Paul also added in his statement that the Clarke family is praying for privacy at this time following an unspeakable tragedy.

Clarke had recently announced his joining Klutch Sports.

Moses Moody, Jalen Johnson among prospects to sign with Klutch Sports

Moody and Johnson headlined the group of prospects that were signed by the Klutch Sports Group on Thursday.

Arkansas guard Moses Moody and Duke forward Jalen Johnson headlined the group of prospects that were signed by the Klutch Sports Group on Thursday, the agency announced.

In addition to Moody and Johnson, Texas forward Kai Jones, Kentucky players BJ Boston and Terrence Clark, and Florida guard Scottie Lewis also signed with Rich Paul-led group to form a talented haul of draft prospects this year.

Moody, Johnson and Jones each enter the pre-draft process projected by most to be lottery selections, while Boston is thought to be a late first-round pick. Meanwhile, Clark is believed to be a late second-rounder and Lewis is currently outside of the top 60 by most mocks.

Of course, the pre-draft rankings will change from now until the NBA draft on July 29. Prospects will conduct interviews and workouts with teams in the coming weeks while scouting events like the combine and NBA G League Elite Camp will return to help players improve their draft stock.

Klutch Sports has emerged as perhaps the top agency in the NBA given its All-Star clientele, headlined by LeBron James, Anthony Davis and John Wall among others. In 2020, the agency signed Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Maxey.
