Rutgers football offer goes out to Lansdale Catholic’s Terrance Smith

Rutgers football offered a Pnessylvania standout coming off a strong freshman season.

Terrance Smith, a class of 2027 recruit, was offered by Rutgers football this week.

A 6-foot-5, 260-pound lineman who lines up on both sides of the ball for Lansdale Catholic (Lansdale, Pennsylvania), Smith’s offer from Rutgers was the first from a Power Five program in his recruitment.

He is also a standout discus thrower.

Last year, Lansdale Catholic went 5-5.

As an offensive lineman, Smith shows some serious potential. He is physically imposing and strong and moves very well.

His agility, highlighted by how he pulls and can get down the field in his run blocking, is impressive. The fluidity of motion he shows is especially noticeable given that he is coming off his freshman season and should still be very raw in these aspects of his development.

He posted on social media on Monday about the offer from Rutgers:

Following their first official visit weekend, Rutgers now has 18 committed players. The recruiting class is ranked top-10 in the nation by Rivals.

Cardinals place WR Christian Kirk on COVID-19 reserve, make other roster moves

Kirk is the second Cardinals player to land on the list this week before their pivotal matchup against the Rams.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a number of roster moves on Saturday on the eve of their pivotal Week 17 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. They made some additions to the roster from the practice squad and lost a second player this week to the COVID-19 reserve.

Safety Chris Banjo landed on the list earlier this week. The latest is receiver Christian Kirk. He will miss the critical game that determines whether the Cardinals will make the postseason or not.

The list is reserved for players who either test positive for the coronavirus or have close contact with someone who does. If he was placed on the list for only close contact, he can return next week after five days, provided he has no positive tests. However, if he tested positive, he would also miss the first round of the playoffs if the Cardinals win on Sunday.

Kirk finishes the season with 48 receptions for 621 yards and six touchdowns.

The Cardinals also had three elevations from the practice squad.

They elevated defensive lineman Stacy McGee as a standard elevation. He was elevated earlier this season and played one game for nine snaps.

He gives the Cardinals a sixth defensive lineman for the game.

The Cardinals also elevated defensive back Jace Whittaker and linebacker Terrance Smith as COVID-19 replacements. Smith has been elevated previously twice and played on special teams. Whittaker has played in four games this season. He likely will replace Banjo on special teams.

Cardinals protect 4 players on practice squad in Week 17

All four players they protected for the regular season finale have all been elevated to the active roster and played this season.

The Arizona Cardinals have protected some familiar names on the practice squad for Week 17 as they prepare for their critical game on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. According to the league transaction report, they have protected a pair of defensive linemen, a linebacker and a cornerback.

They are:

  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • DL Stacy McGee
  • LB Terrance Smith
  • CB Jace Whittaker

All four players have been elevated to the active roster for games and have played. Smith has been elevated the last two games to play special teams. Dogbe has played in three games, McGee in one and Whittaker has played in four games.

The two defensive linemen being protected suggests perhaps an injury or two among the current group of defensive linemen. The first injury report of the week will come out Wednesday afternoon.

Cardinals protect K Mike Nugent, 3 others on practice squad in Week 16

They protect Nugent, TE Seth DeValve, DL Michael Dogbe and LB Terrance Smith. All four have played in games this season.

The Arizona Cardinals do not currently have a kicker on their roster, as Zane Gonzalez was placed on injured reserve last week. Mike Nugent, who handled kicking duties the last two weeks, has reverted to the practice squad.

To make sure Nugent is available to kick on Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16, the team protected him and three others from being signed by other teams this week.

According to the league transaction report, the Cardinals protected the following players:

  • K Mike Nugent
  • TE Seth DeValve
  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • LB Terrance Smith

Nugent will kick for the Cardinals this weekend. He will be brought up before the game. DeValve has been elevated to the active roster for games twice this season. With Maxx Williams and Darrell Daniels both injured and day-to-day, the Cardinals might need him again this weekend.

Dogbe has been protected multiple weeks this season and has been elevated three times this season to the roster.

Smith was elevated to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He played on special teams. Since linebacker Kylie Fitts is recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of Sunday’s game, protecting Smith ensures that role is filled.

Cardinals sign 2 LBs to practice squad, protect 4 in Week 11

They add Stephone Anthony and Terrance Smith.

The Arizona Cardinals made a pair of practice squad additions this week and also have protected four players on their practice squad for Week 11.

On Monday, the team announced the addition of linebackers Stephone Anthony and Terrance Smith to the practice squad.

They both had previously visited the team.

Anthony was a first-round pick in 2015 and started every game as a rookie and had over 100 tackles for the New Orleans Saints but then sort of stopped being productive. He has started only four games since his rookie season and was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2017.

He will run and hit so he had value on special teams, but he struggled with his instincts.

Smith played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2016-2018, originally joining as an undrafted rookie. He played in 31 games in three seasons and had 36 total tackles. He is DeAndre Hopkins’ cousin and has a relationship with defensive line coach Brentson Buckner.

The Cardinals also protected four practice squad players from being signed off their roster, according to the NFL transaction report.

They protected:

  • CB Prince Amukamara
  • DL Michael Dogbe
  • RB D.J. Foster
  • CB Jace Whittaker

Foster has been elevated multiple times this season to the roster to be active on game days to play on special teams. Dogbe might get forced into action with injury concerns on the defensive line. The Cardinals have three players on injured reserve, Jordan Phillips is recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out of last week’s game and Corey Peters appears to have a serious knee injury.
