Tennessee at Kentucky odds, picks and predictions

The No. 20 Tennessee Volunteers (5-2, 2-2 SEC) take on the Kentucky Wildcats (5-2, 2-2) on Saturday at Kroger Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tennessee vs. Kentucky odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Volunteers failed to cover as 9-point road underdogs in their 34-20 loss to No. 8 Alabama in Week 8, and the Over (48) hit. Tennessee was on a 3-game winning streak before its loss to Alabama and has scored only 20 points in back-to-back weeks.

The Wildcats were defeated by No. 16 Missouri 38-21 in Week 7 as 1.5-point home favorites, and the Over (50.5) cleared. Kentucky lost 2 games in a row before having its bye in Week 8, with the other loss coming to No. 1 Georgia.

Tennessee is No. 20 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tennessee at Kentucky picks and predictions

Prediction

Kentucky 27, Tennessee 24

Moneyline

While Tennessee is favored to win this SEC bout on the road, I’ll back KENTUCKY (+150) at home. The Volunteers have only played 2 road games thus far and both of those were losses to conference opponents.

The Wildcats are also 4-1 at home this season.

Against the spread

KENTUCKY +3.5 (-110) is the play against the spread considering we are siding with the Wildcats to pull off the upset at home. The Volunteers have failed to cover the spread in each of their 1st 2 road games against SEC teams.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 3-2 ATS at home and are now 8-5 ATS at home in the last 2 seasons.

Over/Under

Neither of these offenses has shown much consistency this season, making the UNDER 51.5 (-115) the ideal choice in this contest. The Volunteers are allowing only 19.43 points per game, while the Wildcats are giving up only 23.57 points per game.

QB Joe Milton III and QB Devin Leary have been shaky this season, and the Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these programs.

Tennessee at Kentucky odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Tennessee at Kentucky odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 23 Tennessee Volunteers (11-4, 2-2 SEC) and No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats (13-3, 3-1) will battle in a Saturday matinee at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky. Tip-off in the SEC rivalry tussle is slated for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Tennessee vs. Kentucky odds and lines and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tennessee owns the second-best defense in the SEC (60.7 points per game), but the Volunteers — albeit against a tough slate — haven’t kept pace offensively of late. In a stretch that includes road games at No. 25 Alabama and No. 12 LSU, the Vols have gone 2-2 over their last four games. UT has shot just 39.0% from the field (27.8% from distance) over that 2-2 span.

The Wildcats head into Saturday’s game with more momentum. Kentucky has won six of its last seven. UK has shot a robust 51.5% from the field and 40.3% from beyond the arc in those seven contests. Overall, the Wildcats are 11-0 at home.

Tennessee at Kentucky odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Kentucky 75, Tennessee 69

Money line

Tennessee has the better defense; Kentucky has the better offense. But there are some hidden areas where some betting leverage can be had.

The Vols defense cranks out a lot of steals: look for ball security to be a UT advantage. But in rebounding, distance shooting and getting points at the line, the check marks go in the UK column. There is also the question of how much a plus-turnover ratio will be for the Vols. Some of their past performances lead to the thought they may just feast on weak ball-security teams. And Kentucky ranks top-50 in the nation in turnover avoidance.

The lean is small — and in this case for conservative bettors perhaps worthy of a line watch looking for a tag in the 190s — but there is leverage on a chalky KENTUCKY (-205).

Against the spread

UK is 5-1 ATS in its last six games as a favorite.

With Kentucky being home, the favorite in a game that gets close and determined by tosses from the charity stripe, there is a sliver of room to operate with KENTUCKY -4.5 (-112).

Over/Under

The Over is 5-1 in the Vols’ last six games against winning teams. And the Over is 4-1 in UK’s last five games as a home favorite.

Figure this game as a slight lean as a betting choice all the way around because there is a light sway toward the OVER 142.5 (-110) here. These teams play toward the faster end of the tempo scale. Usually, pace slows down for teams as they head into league play; that has not been the case for the Volunteers or Wildcats.

Previewing the Georgia Bulldogs at Tennessee Volunteers Week 11 matchup, with college football odds, trends and head-to-head records.

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (9-0, 7-0 SEC) meet the Tennessee Volunteers (5-4, 3-3) Saturday at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Georgia vs. Tennessee odds and lines; check back for our college football picks and predictions.

The top-ranked Bulldogs blasted visiting Missouri by a 43-6 count Saturday, although Georgia failed to cover the 40.5-point number. The Under hit for a fifth straight outing for UGA, which has allowed just 59 points in nine games overall.

The Volunteers won an epic 45-42 battle in Lexington against the rival Kentucky Wildcats Saturday to snap a two-game skid. Tennessee is a respectable 3-2 SU/ATS across the past five with the Over going 4-1 during the stretch.

Tennessee at Kentucky odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Tennessee at Kentucky odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Tennessee Volunteers (4-4, 2-3 SEC) and Kentucky Wildcats (6-2, 4-2) meet for a Saturday night SEC East game in Lexington, Ky. The contest at Kroger Field is slated to start at 7 p.m. ET game. Below, we look at the Tennessee vs. Kentucky odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Rankings courtesy of the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Tennessee heads into this game off a bye week. The Vols went into their bye on a two-game losing streak. Tennessee is 1-7 straight up (2-6 against the spread) over its last eight games after a bye. In this contest, UT is looking to avenge a 2020 loss to Kentucky (34-7 Oct. 17).

The Wildcats lost at Mississippi State, 31-17, last week and have dropped two in a row after starting the season 6-0. UK now returns home where it has won seven in a row dating back to last season.

Tennessee at Kentucky odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 28, Kentucky 24

Money line

Tennessee ran for just 64 yards in its Oct. 23 loss to Alabama. But that was on the heels of the Volunteers piling up 927 rushing yards over the previous three weeks. UT’s ground game ranks 13th overall (yards).

Last year’s game was a near-dead heat statistically. But Kentucky leveraged a plus-3 in turnovers, two defensive scores, and three scoring drives under 55 yards in earning the win.

Look for a Tennessee offense led by QB Hendon Hooker to be the difference maker in this one. TAKE TENNESSEE (-108).

Against the spread

Consider the ML play to be the best value on the Vols. PASS.

Over/Under

The Under has hit each of the last three series games, and this year’s total is the highest in the series since 2016.

BACK THE UNDER 56.5 (-107) on just a slight lean.

The Volunteers have dropped two straight games with losses against Ole Miss at home and Alabama on the road, and are 0-4 SU/ATS in four games against ranked opponents this season.

The Wildcats have dropped two straight games, both on the road, at Georgia and Mississippi State. The game against the Bulldogs was especially disappointing as UK had two weeks to prepare but still lost as 1-point dogs.

The Volunteers have dominated the all-time series 81-26-9, but the Wildcats have made some inroads lately. Kentucky won 34-7 in Knoxville last season on Oct. 17, 2020, and it is 2-2 SU in the last four meetings. Tennessee is still 7-2 ATS in the past nine meetings, with the Under 3-0 in the last three.

  • Over/Under: 125.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Tennessee at Kentucky: Three things to know

  1. The Volunteers head into this game off a disappointing 52-50 loss at Mississippi State Tuesday. Tennessee shot just 35.6% from the floor and has had similar shooting woes in recent games. The Vols shot just 29.3% in a Jan. 19 loss to Florida and 37% in an against-the-spread loss to Ole Miss Jan. 26.
  2. Kentucky has lost five of six games since Jan. 12. The Wildcats have connected on just 28.7% of their 3-point attempts and have been a consistent minus in turnovers over that stretch. UK was a minus-5 in the turnover exchange in a Wednesday loss to Missouri; the Wildcats have been on the minus side of the miscue ledger in every game since Jan. 12.
  3.  Both teams are solidly in the bottom-15 in tempo/possession analytics. And both teams rank in the top-20 in defensive efficiency numbers. Tennessee has held foes under 62 points in five of its last seven games; UK has held opponents under 40% from the field in five straight.

Against the spread (ATS)

KENTUCKY +3.5 (-110) IS A LEAN, but its a slight lean at best. UT is talented but all too capable of iffy shooting performances. Of course, iffy shooting is the neighborhood where UK lives.

Kentucky’s Jan. 26 loss to Alabama is instructive in this play. The Wildcats lost, 70-59 — in Tuscaloosa, Ala., — but the nuts and bolts of the contest were UK-favorable. The game was a one-possession event until the final minutes, and the Wildcats logged a poor 2-point shooting game.

Over/Under (O/U)

UK defends inside and blocks shots at elite levels. Both teams rigorously defend every look to the hilt. The total here is practically a toy number at first glance. But 115-120 is certainly a possibility, and a 130-plus would really take an uncharacteristic shooting performance.

TAKE THE UNDER 125.5 (-105).
