The Texas Longhorns (11-4, 0-2 SEC) welcome the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers (14-1, 1-1) to the Moody Center Saturday. Tip is set for 6 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Tennessee vs. Texas odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Tennessee, which is No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, was embarrassed by the No. 8 Florida Gators 73-43 Tuesday, closing as a 3-point road underdog. After 4 straight home games, it was throttled on the road. Over its last 5, Tennessee is 2-3 against the spread (ATS). The Volunteers are 2-1 straight up and 1-1-1 ATS in road games this season.

The Longhorns lost to the No. 2 Auburn Tigers 87-82 Tuesday, closing as a 10.5-point home underdog. They lost the game prior as well, a 20-point road defeat against the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies. Texas had won its 4 games before those 2 losses. It is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 and 8-7 ATS on the season.

Tennessee at Texas picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 68, Texas 64

Moneyline

PASS.

The Volunteers should get back to their winning ways Saturday, but they are far too favored to take on the moneyline. The Longhorns are an enticing home underdog yet better played on the spread. Avoid a moneyline wager.

Against the spread

BET LONGHORNS +4.5 (-115).

The Longhorns played competitively at home against Auburn, one of the best teams in the country, on Tuesday. They are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. Texas has scored at least 77 points in 5 of its last 6, suggesting it has the offense capable of keeping this game close.

The Volunteers have struggled to consistently cover as of late. They are just 2-4-1 ATS in their last 7 games and have scored 67 or fewer in 2 of their last 3 and in 3 of their last 6. Considering those offensive woes, expect Tennessee to fail to pull away by a sizable margin.

Take LONGHORNS +4.5 (-115).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 136.5 (-105).

The Volunteers have a strong defense and a reeling offense. They are 5-10 O/U on the season and 1-6 O/U in their last 7. Tennessee scored 43 against the Gators and has tallied 109 in its last 2 road games combined. It has allowed 64 or fewer in 6 of its last 7.

The Longhorns have gone Under in 2 of their last 3 games and will be facing a slow-paced Volunteers side. Texas has scored 65 or fewer in 3 of 4 games with a spread of 6 or fewer. Back UNDER 136.5 (-105).

Tennessee at Texas odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Tennessee at Texas odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

On Saturday, part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge, the No. 20 Tennessee Volunteers (14-5) will travel to Frank Erwin Center to take on the No. 25 Texas Longhorns (15-5). Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we look at Tennessee vs. Texas odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Longhorns are coming into this game off a 23-point win and cover against Texas Christian University.

Texas has been favorited in its last 10 games, covering in 5 of them. The Longhorns allow the fewest points per game in the nation at 54.7. They do it by holding opponents under 41% from the field and 31% from deep.

Texas is 12-1 straight up (SU) at home this season. As for Tennessee, the Vols are also more comfortable at home, a perfect 11-0. However, they’ll be taking to the road where they’re just 2-3.

The Vols are 11-8 against the spread (ATS) on the season though and have won 3 straight games, covering in 2 of them. Tennessee also has a stout defense, allowing just 63.1 points per game, good for the 41st-fewest per game in the nation.

Tennessee at Texas odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 65, Tennessee 60

Money line

PASS on the money line.

Texas has more momentum and will be at home. The -180 isn’t enticing enough to take. Similarly, I wouldn’t bet an upset given how much better both teams have been on their court this season.

Against the spread

BET on TEXAS -3.5 (-115).

While sub-.500 ATS on the season, the Longhorns are 7-6 ATS at home. Considering the Longhorns’ NCAA-best defense and also at home, they should have the momentum and pace on their side.

The Longhorns also have 5 players averaging over 9 points per game, which against top-tier defenses, should be better than having a few key scorers.

The Longhorns should be able to lock in on Tennessee G Kennedy Chandler and G Santiago Vescovi. The Volunteers have been horrible on the road 2-3 SU this season.

Considering that, I’d side with the home favorite in this one.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 126.5 (-115). With a total this low, it’s bound to be a public fade, but the real reason to bet against points is the strength of the defenses.

The Vols have the stronger offense, but the Longhorns allow under 60 points per game. As for the Vols, they allow 63.1 points per game but will get a Texas offense averaging under 70 per game.

Also, both teams have been profitable to bet on the Under on as Texas is 8-12 O/U and Tennessee is 8/11 O/U. The respective defenses are just that good.
