Bengals fans love Joe Burrow applying pressure to team’s front office

Joe Burrow put the Bengals on notice about Tee Higgins and fans love it.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow stunned onlookers after Monday night’s win over the Dallas Cowboys.

There, Burrow essentially said he’s “confident” the team will get wideout Tee Higgins back this offseason and that he’ll do what it takes to see that happen.

What that exactly means is hard to say. Maybe it means he’ll restructure his contract to make it work. Who knows?

What it does mean, though, is that Burrow is going public with his desire to have Higgins back when he could have easily just thrown out the usual no comment and moved on with the interview.

Considering Burrow has spent the last few weeks talking about the cornerstone guys of the franchise for the long-term, it is now very clear he includes Higgins in that group.

Message sent — and fans love it.

Joe Burrow makes stunning comment about Tee Higgins’ future with Bengals

Joe Burrow really just said this about Tee Higgins.

Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins feels as good as gone and has for a while — that’s not a secret or surprise to fans.

But it sounds like Joe Burrow has other plans.

Speaking with reporters after the win over the Dallas Cowboys, Burrow put out a stunner when asked about Higgins’ future with the team.

“I’m confident that we’re gonna be able to do what it takes to get Tee back,” Burrow said, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. “I know that I’m going to do what it takes to get him back.

Reporters followed up by asking why he sounds so confident about this with a simple “we’ll see.”

Fans can probably read this one of two ways. One, Burrow knows something the rest of us don’t.

Or two, he’s now applying some pressure on the Bengals with his platform in a very public manner.

Either way, it sure feels like the conversation around Higgins just took a pretty dramatic swing.

Top NFL draft wide receiver prospect a big fan of Jayden Daniels?

Top NFL draft prospect a big fan of Jayden Daniels?

The Washington Commanders will be in the market for a wide receiver in the offseason to line up opposite Terry McLaurin. Washington likes its current group but needs another top receiver for rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

With plenty of salary cap space, the Commanders could look to sign a prominent free agent, such as Cincinnati’s Tee Higgins. However, general manager Adam Peters is a draft-first kind of guy, meaning he could wait until April’s NFL draft to find Daniels and McLaurin some help.

Tetairoa McMillan of Arizona is the draft’s top-ranked receiver. Unless Washington completely falls apart, he won’t be available for the Commanders. Neither will Travis Hunter, who is arguably the top prospect in the upcoming draft. Hunter is a star two-way player for Colorado.

One prospect who could be in Washington’s range is Missouri WR Luther Burden III.

The 20-year-old prospect recently announced he was entering the NFL draft and is a lock to go in the first round. How high? That will be sorted out after the season.

Burden could be excited about potentially coming to Washington. Why? He appears to be a big Daniels fan, commenting on one of Daniels’ recent Instagram posts.

Burden is an electric playmaker who can do it all.

Burden would be a perfect complement to McLaurin. Which of Washington’s current receivers will be back next year? Outside of McLaurin, only rookie Luke McCaffrey is under contract for 2025. Dyami Brown, Noah Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus and Jamison Crowder are all free agents after the season.

The Commanders’ receivers will look different in 2025. Could Burden be a part of that group?

Steelers HC with perfect analogy for Joey Porter Jr. penalties

Joey Porter Jr. did his best against Tee Higgins and Mike Tomlin was OK with the penalties.

Sunday was a rough one for Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who was tasked with contending with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Porter ended up with four penalties and struggled. But when head coach Mike Tomlin addressed them a his Tuesday press conference but he went to bat for Porter with a perfect example.

“When we play Shaq, we’re going to use our fouls,” Tomlin said in reference to Higgins. After the game, Tomlin called Higgins a goon in the best way thanks to his size and physical play style.

The Steelers beat the Bengals in a shootout 44-38 and while Porter didn’t have his best game, the Steelers defense picked off Joe Burrow once and did their best to keep Burrow in check with 309 passing yards.

Mike Tomlin has four-letter word to describe Bengals WR Tee Higgins

Mike Tomlin got creative while talking about Bengals WR Tee Higgins.

Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins had the Pittsburgh Steelers flustered on Sunday during the loss.

Higgins was involved in penalties that went against the Steelers and wound up catching five passes for 69 yards and a score, too.

While talking about Joey Porter Jr.’s penalties on the day, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made sure to highlight Higgins in the conversation, too.

“Tee Higgins’ got a lot to do with that,” Tomlin said, according to Aaron Becker of Steelers Now. “Tee is a goon. He is. You can’t let him beat you up.”

It’s a fun, quick look at how other teams view Higgins right now in terms of his physicality and the problems he causes defenders on a down-to-down basis.

Higgins will get a chance to cause Tomlin, Porter Jr. and the Steelers more problems in the season-ending encounter in Week 18.

More notable for fans, though, is how valued Higgins cleary is for his traits as he gets ready to likely leave in free agency next offseason.

Mike Tomlin shifts blame away from Joey Porter Jr. regarding penalties

Mike Tomlin defended Joey Porter Jr.’s penalties in Week 13, crediting Tee Higgins’ physical play for the challenges Porter faced.

It’s safe to say that the majority of those watching the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 13 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals were more than disappointed with the number of penalties committed by the Black and Gold, particularly CB Joey Porter Jr., who was responsible for six of the Steelers’ sixteen penalties.

Well, almost everyone. HC Mike Tomlin seemingly gave Porter a pass for his struggles with penalties this week. Speaking on a multitude of Week 13 topics during the postgame press conference, Tomlin had this to say about Porter’s penalty issues: “Tee Higgins got a lot to do with that, man. Tee is a goon. He is. You can’t let him beat you up, while at the same time, the officials are going to call it the way they’re going to call it. Sometimes, man, I kind of absorb some of what comes with that. You cannot let a big dude you up. You got to match fire with fire.”

It’s clear that Tomlin appreciated the physicality Porter showed in Week 13, even if it gave the Cincinnati Bengals plenty of opportunities to score throughout the contest.

Najee Harris was a man possessed in Steelers’ Week 13 victory

Najee Harris led all skill position players in Week 13 with 129 total yards and a TD, showcasing elite form in a standout performance.

Fans of the hard-nosed, Pittsburgh-style running game, rejoice! Najee Harris turned back the clock to his rookie season as he showcased his elite receiving skills, run-after-the-catch ability, downhill physical running, and elusiveness all at once in Week 13. Harris not only led all running backs in the Steelers-Bengals matchup in rushing, but he also accumulated more total yards than any skill position player from either team: 129 total yards and 1 TD.

In a game featuring elite, talented receivers and running backs such as Steelers WR George Pickens, Bengals WRs Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and RB Chase Brown, it was Harris who shined the brightest.

Harris is currently in a contract year with Pittsburgh, after the Steelers declined to pick up his fifth-year option, and he appears determined to make a statement with a career resurgence in 2024. Ideally, the Steelers would love to keep Harris in the Black and Gold forever, as fans of the Steel City would undoubtedly appreciate—especially if his elite Week 13 performance becomes the new norm in Pittsburgh.

Will Tee Higgins play this week? Injury updates for Bengals WR

Bengals WR Tee Higgins is dealing with a leg injury. Here are the latest updates.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is once again one of the main injury talking points around the team.

This time, Higgins is in the spotlight ahead of the team’s Week 13 AFC North battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tee Higgins injury update

  • Higgins was officially “limited” on the first injury report of the week, with the team listing it as a “rest” status. But he was one of the only players working the rehab field on Wednesday.
  • Speaking with reporters on Wednesday before Week 13, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that there wasn’t any concern about Higgins’ availability for Week 13.

How long will Tee Higgins be out?

  • Higgins should play against the Steelers. That said, Bengals fans know to be cautious — his latest stint of missed games was due to an injury suffered during a Friday walkthrough, his second different soft-tissue injury of the year.

Bengals depth chart

  • Ja’Marr Chase, Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin, Jermaine Burton, Charlie Jones, Isaiah Williams

If Higgins needs to play on a pitch count for some reason, some of the workload would will go to embattled rookie Jermaine Burton.

Bengals gamble on Tee Higgins replacement in new 2025 NFL mock draft

The Bengals say goodbye to Tee Higgins in a new mock draft.

Conventional wisdom says the Cincinnati Bengals will lose Tee Higgins to free agency next offseason.

But for the most part, that same logical line of thinking has suggested that one of Andrei Iosivas or even Jermaine Burton could step into the No. 2 role across from Ja’Marr Chase.

Not all agree, though.

Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus, for example, just issued a new 2025 NFL mock draft that has the Bengals going with Luther Burden III out of Missouri at No. 10 overall:

Burden has been impressive this season, averaging 2.41 yards per route run. He was even better in 2023, earning an elite 91.0 PFF receiving grade while averaging 3.29 yards per route run.

Given some of the needs across the entire defense, the Bengals going with a first-round wideout would be something of a surprise.

But then again, Iosivas has largely been a disappointment this season and Burton has had all sorts of issues dodging the problems that gave him red flags during last year’s draft.

As of this writing, the 5’11” Burden has 21 touchdowns over his last three seasons and averages nearly 12 yards per catch, so he’d be a nice possible fit in the same offense as Chase.

Steelers-Bengals matchups to watch: Donte Jackson vs Tee Higgins

CB Donte Jackson faces WR Tee Higgins in a key Week 13 matchup as Pittsburgh looks to contain Cincinnati’s number two receiving threat.

One of the more underrated matchups from Week 13’s contest between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals will be the CB2 versus WR2 battle: Steelers CB Donte Jackson against Bengals WR Tee Higgins.

Jackson has performed admirably throughout the 2024 season, recording a team-high four interceptions and allowing only one touchdown through eleven games. Jackson’s most concerning statistic is his 13.2 yards per reception allowed, but his greatest strength is his outstanding 50.1 passer rating allowed when targeted.

Higgins has struggled to stay healthy in 2024, appearing in only six of his team’s eleven games but remaining productive when available. His best performance of the season came in Week 11, where he posted a whopping 148 receiving yards and one touchdown on nine receptions. While his 489 total receiving yards remain modest, Higgins has proven himself to be a reliable receiving threat for the Bengals opposite Ja’Marr Chase.

With much of the attention focused on Steelers’ CB Joey Porter Jr. heading into Week 13, Jackson has an opportunity to shut down a great receiver in Higgins when the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Cincinnati Bengals on December 1st at 1:00 PM EST.
