Scouting report

Via On3’s EJ Holland:

Hammond might seem a little bit like a ‘boring’ take, but Michigan fans will be glad he’s on the roster years from now … It is going to take some time for Hammond to develop under both Elston and Herbert before he makes a meaningful impact. But I do think Hammond will provide depth and be a late career starter. Right now, I see him as more of a three-technique in Michigan’s defensive scheme. Like I said, he has the frame to add plenty of weight, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get close to 300 pounds

Michigan football continues Ohio momentum with latest 2024 commitment

Ted Hammond says he’s ‘beyond blessed’ to commit to Michigan

Hammond had offers from 20 other schools.

Despite getting interest from several NFL teams with head coach openings, Jim Harbaugh says he’s staying at Michigan. While it won’t get him out of trouble with the NCAA over alleged personnel violations, the program is going full steam ahead with their recruiting.

One thing they’ve become quite good at is finding and developing talent along the defensive line – and that work is ongoing. The Wolverines’ latest commit comes from Ohio, where St. Xavier Junior defensive lineman Ted Hammond announced his intentions on Wednesday.

In a statement on his Twitter page, Hammond thanked God and his high school coaches and said he’s beyond blessed to join Michigan.

“First off, I would like to thank God for all the opportunities, gift, and talents that he has blessed me with. I wouldn’t be in this position without him. Secondly, I would like to thank my family for being with me throughout this recruiting process by always supporting and love me. I love you all. Lastly, I would like to thank my coaches. For pushing me to be the best version of myself every day. Also, Coach Elston and Coach Harbaugh for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. With that being said, I’m beyond blessed to commit to the University of Michigan!”

Hammond (6-foot-5, 258 pounds) had offers from 20 other schools, including Big 10 rivals Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern. He is ranked No. 31 among defensive linemen in his class and No. 357 nationally in the consensus rankings. Both Rivals and On3 have him as a four-star recruit.

Michigan’s recruiting class of 2024 now has five members. They currently rank No. 9 in the country.

Another one! #GoBlue

Michigan football started really reeling in players from the Buckeye state immediately after downing Ohio State in the Horseshoe in Nov. 2022.

It started with cornerback Cameron Calhoun, but since, D’Juan Waller and Luke Hamilton have pledged to the Wolverines. And the maize and blue have been trending for a few others, including standout Brian Robinson.

But on Wednesday, Michigan football got yet another, this time from Cincinnati.

2024 Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier three-star defensive lineman Ted Hammond has offers from Cincinnati, Iowa, Oklahoma, Rutgers, and Washington, among others. He’s listed at 6-foot-5, 258-pounds and was offered earlier this month. However, after visiting Ann Arbor, he chose to shut down his recruitment and commit to Michigan.

He announced his commitment on Instagram.

Oklahoma Sooners 2024 3-Star defensive end Ted Hammond

Oklahoma Sooners target 2024 three-star defensive end Ted Hammond out of Ohio.

The Oklahoma Sooners latest offer in the 2024 recruiting cycle goes out to Cincinnati, Ohio, native Ted Hammond. He plays defensive end for St. Xavier High School.

At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, he looks the part of a strong side defensive end who can play in three- and four-man fronts at the collegiate level. Hammond has 16 Power Five offers, including the Oklahoma Sooners.

His profile has come on strong of late, picking up the Sooners’ offer on Sunday and an offer from Michigan on Friday. With his size and ability, it’s only a matter of time before his Power Five offers number in the 25-30 range.

Hammond is a powerful player who displays fantastic gap integrity. He’s relentless in pursuit. He does a nice job stringing out plays in the run game. His size allows him to play over the center as the nose tackle or as the defensive end in three-man alignments. He looks best suited to play defensive end on early downs and kick inside to play defensive tackle on passing downs.
