NU system president to leave for Ohio State

Earlier in the week, NU system president Ted Carter announced that he would be stepping down after four years of leadership.

Earlier in the week, NU system president Ted Carter announced that he would be stepping down after four years of leadership. Carter will officially depart his position on Dec. 31 to become the next president of Ohio State University.

In a statement to the public, Carter said Nebraska will always hold a special place for his family.

“In our four years here, we have come to treasure Nebraska as our own home state. In every community we’ve visited, Nebraskans have welcomed us with open arms and genuine love for their university. This is a special place, with special people, whose university is achieving great things for the state and the world.”

Carter said he and his wife view Ohio State as their next calling in life.

“Ultimately, Ohio State offers the opportunity to continue to advance the work and mission of public higher education at another leading Big Ten university. Just as Lynda and I saw the University of Nebraska four years ago as the next calling in our lives of service, we now see Ohio State as a calling that we will do our best to answer.”

Carter has served as NU System president since Jan. 1, 2020. He previously was superintendent of his alma mater, the U.S. Naval Academy.

It’s official, the Big Ten set to play football in the fall again

Notre Dame’s neighbors are back to playing football in the fall.

The rollercoaster ride is over. The Big Ten made their return to fall football official this morning.

The plan is to play 8 games with a conference championship game. It remains to be seen if the smaller sample size will be enough for a team from the conference to qualify for a spot in the College Football Playoff.  If it is, it’s not good news for the Irish.

What we do know is the conference looked foolish the whole decision making process. The back-and-forth through crazy rumors, like schools wanting to opt out and let the rest of the conference play. How about last night when Nebraska president Ted Carter leaked the plans on a hot mic, then later said it was taken out of context. You be the judge.

There’s bound to be more bumps in the road ahead for the Big Ten, first-year commissioner Kevin Warren hasn’t had an easy introduction to his new role. What we do know is that the first conference to move away from fall football has changed their mind. The Pac-12 could be close to following the Big Ten, and we could see college football “whole” again soon.

WATCH: Nebraska president caught stating big news about Huskers football

Ted Carter forgot that his mic was still on.

You always have to remember to turn off the mic!

University of Nebraska president Ted Carter unfortunately forgot to do that on Tuesday when he was caught stating that some big news is coming regarding Huskers football on Tuesday afternoon or evening.

“We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight”, said Carter in a conversation with Bob Hinson, director of the National Strategic Research Institute.

Are signs pointing to a Big Ten fall football announcement tonight?

Take it for what it’s worth, but there have been some positive signs shared to Twitter today that indicate a pending Big Ten announcement.

Okay listen, before we get too excited, we’ve been down this road before. We’ve heard reports and read the Buckeye — er, tea leaves thinking the conference was on the cusp of announcing that Big Ten football was back for this fall. Each time, things went on with nary a whisper.

Well, here we are again. There are a couple of things that were shared on Twitter today that do point to something perhaps coming today or in the very near future — and it’s nothing but positive.

Again, take it for what it’s worth. We didn’t write the memo, we are only distributing it.

First, the official Minnesota Football Twitter account posted the following this morning. Is it a sign of things to come? Maybe, maybe not.

Then, perhaps even more interesting is the cat that may have been let out of the bag by Nebraska President Ted Carter on local radio station KETZ this morning. Apparently, according to the Omaha World-Herald (subscription may be required), Carter, not realizing his mic was on, said — and I quote, “We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight.”

Interesting no? All the disclaimers that you could think of apply here, but stay close to your mobile devices, Twitter, or however you get your sports news and we’ll let you know just as soon as we hear anything.

If anything at all.

Nebraska President Ted Carter accidentally reveals Big Ten Football restart will be announced tonight

Picked up on a hot mic, Nebraska President Walter “Ted” Carter was heard saying that the Big Ten football restart will be announced tonight.

If this is how the saga of Big Ten Football and their fall restart comes to pass, I think it would be somewhat poetic.

On Tuesday, Nebraska President Ted Carter was gearing up for a media conference when he said on a mic he didn’t know was ‘hot’: “We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and Big Ten football tonight.” The comment was first picked up and released by KETV.

This comes just days after reports came out that the Big Ten would be resuming fall football on October 17th. This is major news for Michigan State football fans as there have been additional reports this week that if the Big Ten does restart the season, Michigan State would follow suit and play this fall.
