BKFC 28 fighter salaries: Former UFC title challenger John Dodson leads disclosed payouts

Former UFC title challenger John Dodson was the highest earner at BKFC 28 in New Mexico.

BKFC 28 payouts have been released by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department (RLD).

Thursday, MMA Junkie received a list of disclosed salaries for the bareknuckle boxing event which took place Aug. 28 at Rio Rancho Events Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

All payouts consisted of flat purses – meaning no win bonuses.

Former UFC title challenger [autotag]John Dodson[/autotag] made his BKFC debut in the co-main event, pocketing the highest disclosed payout of $75,000 for his first-round knockout win over fellow ex-UFC fighter Ryan Benoit, who made $20,000.

The event was headlined by a 125-pound title fight, which saw Christine Ferea make quick work of Taylor Starling. Ferea earned $22,500, while Starling took home $20,000.

Scroll below to see the full list of disclosed salaries. These figures do not include any additional bonuses the promotion may issue.

BKFC 28 faceoffs get weird: Christine Ferea shoves Taylor Starling; fighter tells opponent, ‘I’m gonna f*ck your dog’

Bring your dog to ceremonial faceoffs and run the risk of some of the worst trash talk of all time.

Things got a little bit weird Friday at the BKFC 28 ceremonial faceoffs.

Yes, I know oftentimes BKFC and weird go hand-in-hand. Shock factor is a cheap-yet-successful method of attracting eyeballs. Usually for BKFC, it’s the name recognition of former UFC fighters that brings in the most attention.

The next step down is presenting unique, unknown individuals who sometimes look like a decked-out “create a character” from a video game.

But Friday, the next layer down was revealed: trash talk so vilely cringe that it has you second-guessing if you heard the person correctly.

I’m not talking about the main event shove (see above) between [autotag]Christine Ferea[/autotag] and [autotag]Taylor Starling[/autotag], no – although that’s a solid way to sell a fight, ladies. Well done.

I’m talking about the preliminary card bout, in which one fighter ([autotag]Antonio Soto III[/autotag]) told his opponent ([autotag]Joshua Morales[/autotag]), ‘After I know you out, I’m gonna f*ck your dog.’

I’m not sure if it was the desired effect to self-own, but that seems pretty self-deprecating to me. What I do know, is that I think combat sports trash talk just hit an all-time low. Especially seeing as the dog was within listening distance!

Don’t believe me? Check out the clip below for yourself.

P.S. I have to say, the panning onto the dog was hilarious – like something out of “The Office,” as one commenter pointed out. There’s no way that good boy didn’t understand what his owner’s opponent said. They know more than they let on. You know that, right?

BKFC 28 takes place Saturday at Rio Rancho Events Center in Albuquerque, N.M. and streams on FITE.

Shortly after official visit, Taylor Starling commits to Buffaloes

Colorado landed its first 2023 CB

Taylor Starling must’ve really enjoyed his time in Boulder.

Not long after wrapping his official visit with the Colorado Buffaloes earlier in the week, the 2023 cornerback announced his commitment on Wednesday.

Starling told BuffStampede’s Adam Munsterteiger that he connected with now-fellow 2023 commits Kam Bizor and AJ Newberry while on his visit, and the successful trip confirmed his good feelings on Colorado (h/t BuffStampede):

“I was kind of already leaning towards going to Colorado prior to my visit,” Starling said of his decision to commit to the Buffs. “And when I was out there, they treated me like family the whole visit. It felt like home based on that, based on how they treated me.”

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Texas native is CU’s first CB commit of its 2023 class. He also holds offers from Arizona, Kansas and Purdue, among others.
